Jeremías 20

1 Y Fasur, sacerdote, hijo de Immer, que presidía por príncipe en la casa de Jehová, oyó a Jeremías que profetizaba estas palabras.

Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of YHWH, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

2 E hirió Fasur a Jeremías profeta, y púsole en el calabozo, que estaba a la puerta de Ben-jamín en lo alto, la cual está en la casa de Jehová.

Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the Upper Gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of YHWH.

3 Y el día siguiente Fasur sacó a Jeremías del calabozo; y díjole Jeremías: No ha llamado Jehová tu nombre Fasur, mas Magor-missabid.

It happened on the next day, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "YHWH has not called your name 'Pashhur,' but 'Magor-Missabib.'

4 Porque así dijo Jehová: He aquí que yo te pondré en espanto, a ti y a todos los que bien te quieren, y caerán por la espada de sus enemigos, y tus ojos lo verán; y a todo Judá entregaré en mano del rey de Babilonia, y transportarlos ha en Babilonia, y herirlos ha a cuchillo.

For thus says YHWH, 'Look, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall kill them with the sword.

5 Y daré toda la sustancia de esta ciudad, y todo su trabajo, y todas sus cosas preciosas, y todos los tesoros de los reyes de Judá daré en mano de sus enemigos, y saquearlos han; y tomarlos han, y traerlos han en Babilonia.

Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all its gains, and all the precious things of it, yes, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

6 Y tú, Fasur, y todos los moradores de tu casa iréis cautivos, y en Babilonia entrarás, y allá morirás, y allá serás enterrado, tú y todos los que bien te quieren, a los cuales has profetizado con mentira.

You, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house shall go into captivity; and you shall come to Babylon, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.'"

7 Engañásteme, o! Jehová, y engañado soy: más fuerte has sido que yo, y me venciste: cada día he sido escarnecido, cada uno burla de mí:

YHWH, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded. You are stronger than I am, and have prevailed. I have become a laughing-stock all day long; everyone mocks me.

8 Porque desde que hablo, doy voces, grito violencia y destrucción: porque la palabra de Jehová me ha sido para afrenta y escarnio cada día.

For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, "Violence and destruction." because the word of YHWH is made a reproach to me, and a derision, all the day.

9 Y dije: No me acordaré más de él, ni más hablaré en su nombre. Y fue en mi corazón como un fuego ardiente metido en mis huesos: trabajé por sufrirle, y no pude:

If I say, "I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name," then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I can't contain it.

10 Porque oí la murmuración de muchos, temor de todas partes: Denunciád, y denunciarémos. Todos mis amigos miraban, si cojearía: Quizá se engañará, y prevaleceremos contra él, y tomaremos de él nuestra venganza.

For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. "Denounce, and we will denounce him," say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall; "perhaps he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."

11 Mas Jehová está conmigo como poderoso gigante; por tanto los que me persiguen tropezarán, y no prevalecerán: serán avergonzados en gran manera, porque no prosperarán: tendrán perpetua vergüenza, que nunca se olvidará.

But YHWH is with me as an awesome mighty one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly disappointed, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.

12 O! Jehová de los ejércitos, que sondas lo justo, que ves los riñones y el corazón, vea yo tu venganza de ellos, porque a ti descubrí mi causa.

But, YHWH of hosts, who tests the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.

13 Cantád a Jehová: load a Jehová; porque escapó el alma del pobre de mano de los malignos.

Sing to YHWH, praise YHWH; for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evildoers.

14 Maldito sea el día en que nací: el día que mi madre me parió no sea bendito.

Cursed is the day in which I was born: do not let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.

15 Maldito sea el hombre que dio nuevas a mi padre, diciendo: Nacídote ha hijo varón: alegrando le hizo alegrar.

Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying, A boy is born to you; making him very glad.

16 Y sea el tal hombre como las ciudades que asoló Jehová, y no se arrepintió; y oiga gritos de mañana, y voces a mediodía.

Let that man be as the cities which YHWH overthrew, and did not repent: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime;

17 ¿Por qué no me mató en el vientre, y mi madre me hubiera sido mi sepulcro, y su vientre concebimiento perpetuo?

because he did not kill me from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.

18 ¿Para qué salí del vientre? ¿para ver trabajo y dolor, y que mis días se gastasen en vergüenza?

Why came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
