Jeremías 18
1 La palabra que fue a Jeremías de Jehová, diciendo:
The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:
2 Levántate, y vete a casa del ollero, y allí te haré que oigas mis palabras.
Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there will I cause thee to hear my words.
3 Y descendí en casa del ollero, y he aquí que él hacía obra sobre una rueda.
So I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he was at work at the wheel.
4 Y el vaso que él hacía de barro se quebró en la mano del ollero; y tornó, e hízolo otro vaso según que al ollero pareció mejor hacerlo.
And the vessel which he was making of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he began anew and made it another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Y fue a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
Then came the word of Jehovah to me, saying:
6 ¿No podré yo hacer de vosotros como este ollero, o! casa de Israel, dice Jehová? He aquí que como el barro en la mano del ollero, así sois vosotros en mi mano, o! casa de Israel.
Cannot I do after the manner of this potter With respect to you. O house of Israel, saith Jehovah? Behold, as the clay is in the hand of the potter, So are ye in my hand, O house of Israel!
7 En un instante hablaré contra naciones, y contra reinos, para arrancar, y disipar, y perder:
Whenever I speak concerning a nation or a kingdom, That I will pluck it up, cast it down, or destroy it,
8 Empero si esas naciones se convirtieren de su maldad, contra el cual mal yo hablé, yo me arrepentiré del mal que había pensado de les hacer.
If that nation shall turn from its wickedness On account of which I threatened it, Then will I repent of the evil which I purposed to do to it.
9 Y en un instante hablaré de la nación, y del reino, para edificar y para plantar:
And whenever I speak concerning a nation or a kingdom, That I will build it, or plant it,
10 Y si hiciere lo malo delante de mis ojos, no oyendo mi voz, arrepentirme he del bien que había determinado de le hacer.
And it shall do that which is evil in my sight, And not hearken to my voice, Then will I repent of the good with which I promised to bless them.
11 Ahora pues, habla ahora a todo hombre de Judá, y a los moradores de Jerusalem, diciendo: Así dijo Jehová: He aquí que yo compongo mal contra vosotros, y pienso contra vosotros pensamientos: conviértase ahora cada uno de su mal camino, y mejorád vuestros caminos, y vuestras obras.
And now speak to the men of Judah, And to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I am framing evil against you, And meditating a design against you; Return ye now every one from his evil way, And amend your ways and your doings.
12 Y dijeron: Es por demás, porque en pos de nuestras imaginaciones hemos de ir; y cada uno el pensamiento de su malvado corazón hemos de hacer.
But they say, “There is no remedy, For we will walk after our own devices, And we will practise every one the perverseness of his evil heart.”
13 Por tanto así dijo Jehová: Ahora preguntád a las naciones: ¿Quién oyó tal? Gran fealdad hizo la virgen de Israel.
Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Inquire ye now among the nations, Who hath heard such things as these? The virgin of Israel hath done a deed of horror.
14 ¿Dejará alguno la nieve de la piedra del campo que corre del Líbano? dejarán las aguas extrañas, frías y corrientes?
Shall the snow from the rocks of Lebanon forsake my fields? Or shall the cold flowing waters, that come from afar, be dried up?
15 Porque mi pueblo me olvidaron, incensando a la vanidad; y hácenlos tropezar en sus caminos, en las sendas antiguas, para que caminen por sendas, por camino no hollado:
Yet my people have forgotten me, And burned incense to vanity; They stumble in their paths, the old ways, And walk in ways that have not been thrown up,
16 Para poner su tierra en admiración, y en silbos perpetuos: todo aquel que pasare por ella se maravillará, y meneará su cabeza.
To make their land a desolation, A perpetual hissing; Every one that passeth through it shall be amazed, And shake his head.
17 Como viento solano los esparciré delante del enemigo: la cerviz, y no el rostro, les mostraré en el día de su perdición.
I will scatter them before the enemy, as with the east wind; I will show them the back, and not the face, In the day of their calamity.
18 Y dijeron: Veníd, y maquinemos maquinaciones contra Jeremías; porque la ley no faltará del sacerdote, ni consejo del sabio, ni palabra del profeta. Veníd, e hirámosle de lengua, y no miremos a todas sus palabras.
But they say, “Come, let us devise measures against Jeremiah; For the law shall not perish from the priest, Nor counsel from the wise, Nor the word from the prophet; Come, let us smite him with the tongue, And not give heed to any of his words.”
19 Jehová mira por mí, y oye la voz de los que contienden conmigo.
Give heed to me, O Jehovah, And hear the voice of my adversaries!
20 ¿Dáse mal por bien, que cavaron hoyo a mi alma? Acuérdate que me puse delante de ti, para hablar bien por ellos, para apartar de ellos tu ira.
Shall evil be returned for good? For they have digged a pit for me. Remember how I have stood before thee, To announce good to them, And to turn away thy wrath from them!
21 Por tanto entrega sus hijos a hambre, y házlos escurrir por manos de espada; y sus mujeres queden sin hijos, y viudas; y sus maridos muertos de muerte; y sus mancebos sean heridos a espada en la guerra.
Therefore give thou up their sons to famine, And deliver them to the edge of the sword! Let their wives be childless and widows, Let their men be slain by pestilence, And their young men fall by the sword in battle!
22 De sus casas se oiga clamor, cuando trajeres sobre ellos ejército de repente; porque cavaron hoyo para tomarme, y escondieron lazos a mis pies.
Let a cry be heard from their houses, When thou shalt bring a troop upon them suddenly! For they have digged a pit to take me, And hidden snares for my feet.
23 Mas tú, o! Jehová, conoces todo su consejo contra mí que es para muerte: no perdones su maldad, ni raigas su pecado de delante de tu rostro; y tropiecen delante de ti: haz con ellos en el tiempo de tu furor.
Thou, O Jehovah, knowest all their plots against my life! Cover not their iniquity, And blot not out their sin from thy sight! But let them be overthrown before thee; Deal with them in the time of thy wrath!
