Santiago 2
1 Hermanos míos, no tengáis la fe de nuestro Señor Jesu Cristo glorioso en acepción de personas.
My brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord of glory, Jesus Christ, with respect of persons.
2 Porque si en vuestra congregación entra algún varón, que trae anillo de oro, vestido de preciosa ropa, y también entra un pobre vestido de vestidura vil,
For if there come into your assembly a man with a gold ring, in splendid apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment,
3 Y pusiereis los ojos en el que trae la vestidura preciosa, y le dijereis: Tú asiéntate aquí honorífica mente; y dijereis al pobre: Estáte tú allí en pie; o, siéntate aquí debajo del estrado de mis pies:
and ye have respect to him that weareth the splendid apparel, and say, Sit thou here in a good place, and say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or, Sit under my footstool,
4 ¿Vosotros, no hacéis ciertamente distinción dentro de vosotros mismos, y sois hechos jueces de pensamientos malos?
have ye not been partial among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
5 Hermanos míos amados, oíd: ¿No ha elegido Dios los pobres de este mundo, que sean ricos en fe, y herederos del reino que ha prometido a los que le aman?
Hearken, my beloved brethren. Did not God choose the poor as to the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?
6 Mas vosotros habéis afrentado al pobre. ¿Los ricos no os oprimen con tiranía, y ellos mismos os arrastran a los juzgados?
but ye have despised the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and do not they drag you before the judgment-seats?
7 ¿No blasfeman ellos el buen nombre que es invocado sobre vosotros?
Do not they blaspheme the worthy name by which ye are called?
8 Si ciertamente vosotros cumplís la ley real conforme a la Escritura, es a saber: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo; bien hacéis;
If indeed ye fulfill the royal law, according to the scripture, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself,” ye do well.
9 Mas si hacéis acepción de personas, cometéis pecado, y sois acusados de la ley como transgresores.
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
10 Porque cualquiera que hubiere guardado toda la ley, y sin embargo se deslizare en un punto, es hecho culpado de todos.
For whoever hath kept the whole law, and yet hath offended in one point, hath become guilty of all.
11 Porque el que dijo: No cometas adulterio, también ha dicho: No mates. Y si no hubieres cometido adulterio, empero hubieres matado, ya eres hecho transgresor de la ley.
For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” said also, “Do not kill.” Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou hast become a transgressor of the law.
12 Así hablád, y así obrád como los que habéis de ser juzgados por la ley de libertad.
So speak, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
13 Porque juicio sin misericordia será hecho a aquel que no hiciere misericordia; y la misericordia se gloría contra el juicio.
For the judgment shall be without mercy to him that showed no mercy. Mercy glorieth against judgment.
14 Hermanos míos, ¿qué aprovechará si alguno dice que tiene fe, y no tiene obras? ¿Podrá la fe salvarle?
What doth it profit, my brethren, if any one say that he hath faith, and have not works? Can his faith save him?
15 Porque si el hermano, o la hermana estuvieren desnudos, o necesitados del mantenimiento de cada día,
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 Y alguno de vosotros les dijere: Id en paz, calentáos, y hartáos, empero no les diéreis las cosas que son necesarias para el cuerpo, ¿qué les aprovechará?
and one of you say to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and be filled, notwithstanding ye give them not the things needful for the body, what doth it profit?
17 Así también la fe, si no tuviere obras, es muerta por sí misma.
So also faith, if it hath not works, is dead in itself.
18 Mas alguno dirá: Tú tienes fe, y yo tengo obras; muéstrame tu fe sin tus obras; y yo te mostraré mi fe por mis obras.
But some one will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works; show me thy faith without works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.
19 Tú crees que Dios es uno: haces bien: también los demonios lo creen, y tiemblan.
Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well; the demons also believe, and tremble.
20 ¿Mas, oh hombre vano, quieres saber, que la fe sin las obras es muerta?
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is idle?
21 Abraham, nuestro padre, ¿no fue justificado por las obras, cuando ofreció a su hijo Isaac sobre el altar?
Was not Abraham our father accepted as righteous through works, when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 ¿ No ves que la fe obró con sus obras, y que por las obras la fe fue perfecta?
Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect.
23 Y la Escritura fue cumplida, que dice: Abraham creyó a Dios, y le fue imputado a justicia, y fue llamado el amigo de Dios.
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness;” and he was called the friend of God.
24 Vosotros, pues, veis, que por las obras es justificado el hombre, y no solamente por la fe.
Ye see that by works a man is accounted as righteous, and not by faith only.
25 Semejantemente también Raab la ramera, ¿no fue justificada por obras, cuando recibió los mensajeros, y los echó fuera por otro camino?
And in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot accounted as righteous through works, when she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?
26 Porque como el cuerpo sin espíritu está muerto, así también la fe sin obras es muerta.
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
