Isaías 36

1 Aconteció en el año catorce del rey Ezequías, que Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, subió contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá y las tomó.

Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.

2 Y el rey de Asiria envió a Rabsaces con grande ejército desde Laquis a Jerusalem al rey Ezequías. Y asentó el campo a los caños de la pesquera de arriba, en el camino de la heredad del batanero.

And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.

3 Y salió a él Eliacim, hijo de Helcías, mayordomo, y Sobna escriba, y Joá, hijo de Asaf, canciller.

Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah came forth to him, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder.

4 A los cuales dijo Rabsaces: Ahora pues diréis a Ezequías: El gran rey, el rey de Asiria, dice así: ¿Qué confianza es esta en que confías?

And Rabshakeh said to them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: What confidence is this in which thou trust?

5 Yo dije ciertamente, palabras de labios, consejo, y fortaleza es menester para la guerra. Ahora pues, ¿en qué confías, que te rebelas contra mí?

I say, thy counsel and strength for the war are but vain words. Now on whom do thou trust that thou have rebelled against me?

6 He aquí que confías sobre este bordón de caña frágil, sobre Egipto: sobre el cual si alguien se recostare, entrarsele ha por la mano, y horadársela ha. Tal es Faraón, rey de Egipto, para con todos los que en él confían.

Behold, thou trust upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand, and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.

7 Y si me dijeres: En Jehová nuestro Dios confiamos: ¿No es este aquel cuyos excelsos y altares hizo quitar Ezequías; y dijo a Judá y a Jerusalem: Delante de este altar adoraréis?

But if thou say to me, We trust in Jehovah our God. Is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

8 Ahora pues yo te ruego que des rehenes al rey de Asiria mi señor; y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si pudieres tú dar caballeros que cabalguen sobre ellos.

Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

9 ¿Cómo pues harás volver el rostro de un capitán de los más pequeños siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto por sus carros y hombres de a caballo?

How then can thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

10 ¿Y por ventura vine yo ahora a esta tierra para destruirla sin Jehová? Jehová me dijo: Sube a esta tierra para destruirla.

And have I now come up without Jehovah against this land to destroy it? Jehovah said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

11 Y dijo Eliacim, y Sobna, y Joá a Rabsaces: Rogámoste que hables a tus siervos en lengua de Siria, porque nosotros la entendemos; y no hables con nosotros en lengua Judaica, oyéndolo el pueblo que está sobre el muro.

Then Eliakim and Shebna and Joah said to Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. And speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people who are on the wall.

12 Y dijo Rabsaces: ¿Envióme mi señor a ti y a tu señor, a que dijese estas palabras, o a los hombres que están sobre el muro, para comer su estiércol, y beber su orina con vosotros?

But Rabshakeh said, Has my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?

13 Y paróse Rabsaces, y gritó a grande voz en lengua Judaica, diciendo: Oíd las palabras del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

14 El rey dice así: No os engañe Ezequías; porque no os podrá librar.

Thus says the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you.

15 Ni os haga Ezequías confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Ciertamente Jehová nos librará: no será entregada esta ciudad en la mano del rey de Asiria.

Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely deliver us. This city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

16 No escuchéis a Ezequías; porque el rey de Asiria dice así: Hacéd conmigo bendición, y salíd a mí, y coma cada uno de su viña, y cada uno de su higuera, y beba cada uno las aguas de su pozo;

Hearken not to Hezekiah. For thus says the king of Assyria, Make your peace with me, and come out to me, and eat ye everyone of his vine, and everyone of his fig tree, and drink ye everyone the waters of his own cistern,

17 Hasta que yo venga, y traspasaros he a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas.

until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

18 Mirád no os engañe Ezequías, diciendo: Jehová nos librará: ¿Libraron los dioses de las naciones de la mano del rey de Asiria cada uno a su tierra?

Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us. Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

19 ¿Dónde está el dios de Emat, y de Arfad? ¿Dónde está el dios de Sefarvaim? ¿Libraron a Samaria de mi mano?

Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? And have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

20 ¿Qué dios hay entre todos los dioses de estas tierras, que haya librado su tierra de mi mano, para que libre Jehová a Jerusalem de mi mano?

Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

21 Callaron, y no le respondieron palabra, porque el rey se lo había mandado así, diciendo: No le respondáis.

But they held their peace, and answered him not a word. For the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

22 Vinieron pues Eliacim, hijo de Helcías, mayordomo, y Sobna escriba, y Joá, hijo de Asaf, canciller, a Ezequías, rotos sus vestidos, y contáronle las palabras de Rabsaces.

Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah came, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
