Génesis 32
1 Y Jacob se fue su camino, y saliéronle al encuentro ángeles de Dios.
And Jacob went on his way, and there met him angels of God.
2 Y dijo Jacob, cuando los vio: El campo de Dios es este: y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar, Mahanaim.
And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is a host of God; and he called the name of that place Machanayim.
3 Y envió Jacob mensajeros delante de sí a Esaú su hermano a la tierra de Seir, campo de Edom.
And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.
4 Y mandóles, diciendo: Direis así a mi señor Esaú: Así dice tu siervo Jacob: Con Labán he morado, y detenídome he hasta ahora.
And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord, to Esau, Thus hath said thy servant Jacob, With Laban have I sojourned, and stayed until now.
5 Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos, y siervas: y envió a decirlo a mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.
And I have acquired oxen, and asses, flocks, and men-servants, and women-servants; and I send now to tell my lord, to find grace in thy eyes.
6 Y los mensajeros volvieron a Jacob, diciendo: Venimos a tu hermano, a Esaú, y él también viene a recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother, to Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
7 Entonces Jacob tuvo gran temor, y angustióse; y partió el pueblo que tenía consigo, y las ovejas, y las vacas, y los camellos en dos cuadrillas;
Then Jacob was greatly afraid, and he felt distressed; and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two bands.
8 Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú a la una cuadrilla, y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.
And he said, If Esau should come to the one band and smite it, then the other band which is left may escape.
9 Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete a tu tierra, y a tu parentela, y yo te haré bien:
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the Lord who saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy birthplace, and I will deal well with thee:
10 Menor soy yo que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has hecho con tu siervo: que con mi bordón pasé a este Jordán; y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.
I am not worthy of all the kindness, and of all the truth, which thou hast shown unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.
11 Líbrame ahora de la mano de mi hermano, de la mano de Esaú; porque le temo: quizá no venga, y me hiera, y a la madre con los hijos.
Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, the mother with the children.
12 Y tú has dicho, yo te haré bien, y pondré tu simiente como la arena de la mar, que no se puede contar por la multitud.
And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
13 Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino a la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú:
And he lodged there that same night; and he took of that which he carried with him a present for Esau his brother:
14 Doscientas cabras, y veinte machos de cabrío; doscientas ovejas, y veinte carneros;
Two hundred she-goats, and twenty he-goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams.
15 Treinta camellas paridas con sus crias; cuarenta vacas, y diez novillos; veinte asnas, y diez borricos.
Thirty milch camels with their colts, forty cows, and ten bulls, twenty she-asses, and ten foals.
16 Y diólo en mano de sus siervos, cada manada por si, y dijo a sus siervos: Pasád delante de mí, y ponéd espacio entre manada y manada.
And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself; and he said unto his servants, Pass on before me, and put a space between drove and drove.
17 Y mandó al primero, diciendo: Si Esaú mi hermano te encontrare, y te preguntare, diciendo: ¿Cúyo eres? Y ¿dónde vas? ¿Y para quién es esto, que llevas delante de ti?
And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother should meet thee, and ask thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither art thou going? and for whom are these before thee?
18 Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía a mi señor Esaú: y, he aquí, también él viene tras nosotros.
Then shalt thou say, They belong to thy servant, to Jacob; it is a present sent unto my lord, to Esau; and, behold, also, he is himself behind us.
19 Y mandó también al segundo, también al tercero, y a todos los que iban tras aquellas manadas, diciendo: Conforme a esto hablaréis a Esaú, cuando le hallareis.
And so he commanded also the second, also the third, as also all that followed the droves, saying, After this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.
20 Y diréis también: He aquí, tu siervo Jacob viene tras nosotros. Porque dijo: Apaciguaré su ira con el presente que va delante de mí, y después veré su rostro; quizá le será acepto.
And say ye moreover, Behold, also thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will receive me kindly.
21 Y pasó el presente delante de él, y él durmió aquella noche en el real.
The present went thus on before him; and he lodged himself that night in the camp.
22 Y levantóse aquella noche, y tomó sus dos mujeres, y sus dos siervas, y sus once hijos, y pasó el vado de Jaboc.
And he rose up that night, and he took his two wives, and his two women-servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of the Yabbok.
23 Y tomólos, y pasólos el arroyo, y pasó lo que tenía.
And he took them, and sent them over the stream and sent over what he had.
24 Y quedó Jacob solo: y luchó con él un varón, hasta que el alba subía.
And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
25 Y como vio que no podía con él, tocó la palma de su anca; y la palma del anca de Jacob se descoyuntó luchando con él.
And when he saw that he could net prevail against him, he struck against the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was put out of joint, as he was wrestling with him.
26 Y dijo: Déjame, que el alba sube. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, sino me bendices.
And he said, Let me go, for the day hath dawned. And he said, I will not let thee go until thou hast blessed me.
27 Y él le dijo: ¿Cómo es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? and he said, Jacob.
28 Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel; porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
And he said, Not Jacob shall any more be called thy name, but Israel; for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
29 Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjole allí.
And Jacob asked him, and said, tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
30 Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar, Fanuel: Porque ví a Dios cara a cara, y mi alma fue librada.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen an angel of God face to face, and my life hath been preserved.
31 Y salióle el sol, como pasó a Fanuel; y cojeaba de su anca.
And the sun rose unto him as he passed by Penuel, and he halted upon his thigh.
32 Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel el nervio encogido que está en la palma del anca hasta hoy; porque tocó la palma del anca de Jacob en el nervio encogido.
Therefore do the children of Israel not eat the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day; because he struck against the hollow of Jacob's thigh on the sinew that shrank.
