Génesis 24
1 Y Abraham era ya viejo, y venido en días: y Jehová había bendecido a Abraham en todo.
Now, Abraham, was old, far gone in days, —and, Yahweh, had blessed Abraham, in all things.
2 Y dijo Abraham a su siervo el más viejo de su casa, el que era señor en todo lo que tenía: Pon ahora tu mano debajo de mi muslo;
So Abraham said unto his servant, elder of his house, ruler of all that he had, —Place, I pray thee thy hand under my thigh;
3 Y tomarte he juramento por Jehová, Dios de los cielos, y Dios de la tierra, que no tomes mujer para mi hijo de las hijas de Canaán, entre los cuales yo habito:
that I may put thee on oath, by Yahweh God of the heavens and God of the earth—That thou wilt not take a wife for my son, from among the daughters of the Canaanites in the midst of whom, I, am dwelling:
4 Mas que irás a mi tierra y a mi parentela, y tomarás de allá mujer para mi hijo Isaac.
but unto my own land and unto my own kindred, wilt go, —So shalt thou take a wife for my son—for Isaac.
5 Y el siervo le respondió: Quizá la mujer no querrá venir en pos de mí a esta tierra: ¿volveré pues tu hijo a la tierra de donde saliste?
And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman may not be willing to follow me into this land, —May I take back thy son, into the land from whence thou camest?
6 Y Abraham le dijo: Guárdate que no vuelvas mi hijo allá.
And Abraham said unto him, —Beware that thou do not take back my son thither!
7 Jehová Dios de los cielos, que me tomó de la casa de mi padre, y de la tierra de mi naturaleza, y me habló, y me juró, diciendo: A tu simiente daré esta tierra; él enviará su ángel delante de ti, y tomarás de allá mujer para mi hijo.
Yahweh, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, who took me out of the house of my father, and out of the land of my kindred, and, who spake to me, and who sware to me, saying, To thy seed, will I give this land, he, will send his messenger before thee, so shalt thou take a wife for my son from thence.
8 Y si la mujer no quisiere venir en pos de ti, serás limpio de este mi juramento: solamente que no vuelvas allá a mi hijo.
But if unwilling be the woman to follow thee, then shalt thou be clear from this mine oath, —Only my son, shalt thou not take back thither
9 Entonces el siervo puso su mano debajo del muslo de Abraham su señor, y juróle sobre este negocio.
So the servant placed his hand, under the thigh of Abraham, his lord, —and sware to him, over this thing.
10 Y el siervo tomó diez camellos de los camellos de su señor, y fue, llevando en su mano de lo mejor que su señor tenía; y levantóse, y fue a Aaram Naharaim, a la ciudad de Nacor.
Then took the servant ten camels, from among the camels of his lord, and went his way, —all the goods of his master being in his hand, —so be mounted, and went his way unto Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
11 E hizo arrodillar los camellos fuera de la ciudad a un pozo de agua, a la hora de la tarde, a la hora que salen las mozas por agua.
And he made the camels kneel down outside the city, against the well of water, —at the time of evening, at the time of the coming forth of the women that drew water,
12 Y dijo: Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, haz encontrar ahora delante de mí hoy, y haz misericordia con mi señor Abraham.
Then he said, O Yahweh, God of my lord Abraham! I pray thee cause it to fall out before me today, that thou deal in lovingkindness with my lord Abraham.
13 He aquí, yo estoy junto a la fuente de agua, y las hijas de los varones de esta ciudad salen por agua.
Here am, I, stationed by the fountain of water, —and, the daughters of the men of the city, are coming forth to draw water:
14 Sea pues, que la moza a quien yo dijere: Abaja ahora tu cántaro, y beberé; y ella respondiere: Bebe; y también a tus camellos daré a beber: esta sea la que aparejaste a tu siervo Isaac; y en esto conoceré que habrás hecho misericordia con mi señor.
so it shall come to pass that the young woman unto whom I shall say. Let down pray. thy pitcher that I may drink, and she shall say, Drink, and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, that, her! hast thou appointed for thy servant for Isaac, And, hereby, shall I get to know, that thou hast dealt in lovingkindness with my lord!
15 Y aconteció, que antes que él acabase de hablar, he aquí Rebeca que salía, la cual había nacido a Batuel, hijo de Melca, mujer de Nacor hermano de Abraham, con su cántaro sobre su hombro.
And it came to pass, ere yet, he, had done speaking, that lo! Rebekah, was coming forth who had been born to Bethuel son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham, —with her pitcher upon her shoulder,
16 Y la moza era muy hermosa de vista, virgen, que varón no la había conocido: la cual descendió a la fuente, e hinchió su cántaro, y subía.
Now the young woman! was of very pleasing appearance, a virgin whom, no man, had known, —and she went down unto the fountain, and filled her pitcher and came up.
17 Entonces el siervo corrió hacia ella, y dijo: Ruégote que me des a beber un poco de agua de tu cántaro.
And the servant ran to meet her, —and said, I pray thee let me drink a little water out of thy pitcher.
18 Y ella respondió: Bebe, señor mío. Y dióse priesa a abajar su cántaro sobre su mano, y dióle a beber.
And she said, Drink my lord, —And she hastened and lowered her pitcher on her hand and let him drink.
19 Y acabando de darle a beber, dijo: También para tus camellos sacaré agua, hasta que acaben de beber.
And when she had done giving him drink, —she said For thy camels also, will I draw, until they have done drinking.
20 Y dióse priesa, y vació su cántaro en la pila, y corrió otra vez al pozo para sacar agua, y sacó para todos sus camellos.
So she hastened and emptied her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and ran again unto the well, to draw, —and she drew for all his camels.
21 Y el varón estaba maravillado de ella callando, para saber si Jehová había prosperado su camino, o no.
Now the man, was eagerly watching her, —keeping silence to see—whether Yahweh had prospered his way., or not.
22 Y fue, que como los camellos acabaron de beber, el varón sacó un pendiente de oro de medio siclo de peso; y dos ajorcas para sus manos de diez siclos de oro de peso,
And it came to pass when the camels had done drinking, that the man took a ring of gold, half a shekel its weight, —and two bracelets for her hands, ten of gold their weight;
23 Y dijo: ¿Hija de quién eres? Ruégote que me declares: ¿Hay lugar en casa de tu padre donde posemos?
and said Whose daughter art, thou? I pray thee, tell me. Is there in the house of thy father a place for us to tarry the night?
24 Y ella respondió: Yo soy hija de Batuel, hijo de Melca, al cual parió a Nacor.
And she said unto him, Daughter of Bethuel, am, I,—[Bethuel] son of Milcah whom she bare to Nahor.
25 Y díjole: También hay en nuestra casa paja y mucho forraje, y también lugar para posar.
And she said unto him, Both straw and fodder in plenty, have we, —also a place to tarry the night.
26 Entonces el varón se inclinó, y adoró a Jehová.
Then the man bowed his head, and bent himself down unto Yahweh;
27 Y dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, que no quitó su misericordia y su verdad de mi señor, guiándome Jehová en el camino a casa de los hermanos de mi señor.
and said, Blessed be Yahweh. God of my lord Abraham, who hath not withdrawn his lovingkindness and his faithfulness, from my lord, —I—being in the way, Yahweh led me unto the house of the brethren of my lord!
28 Y la moza corrió; e hizo saber en casa de su madre estas cosas.
And the young woman ran, and told the household of her mother, —according to these words.
29 Y Rebeca tenía un hermano que se llamaba Labán, el cual corrió fuera al varón a la fuente.
Now, Rebekah, had a brother, whose name, was Laban, —so Laban ran unto the man outside, unto the fountain.
30 Y fue, que como vio el pendiente y las ajorcas en las manos de su hermana, y como oyó las palabras de Rebeca su hermana, que decía: Así me dijo aquel varón; vino al varón; y, he aquí, él estaba junto a los camellos a la fuente.
And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister saying, Thus, did the man speak unto me, that he came unto the man, and lo! he was standing by the camels near the fountain;
31 Y díjole: Ven, bendito de Jehová; ¿por qué estás fuera? Yo he limpiado la casa y el lugar para los camellos.
and he said, Come in. thou blessed of Yahweh, —Wherefore shouldst thou stand outside, when I have made ready the house and a place for the camels?
32 Entonces el varón vino a casa; y Labán desató los camellos, y dio paja y forraje a los camellos, y agua para lavar los pies de él y los pies de los varones que venían con él.
So the man came in towards the house, and ungirded the camels, —and there was given him straw and fodder for the camels, and water for bathing his own feet and the feet of the men who were with him;
33 Y pusieron delante de él de comer; mas él dijo: No comeré hasta que haya hablado mis palabras. Y él le dijo: Habla.
and [food] was set before him to eat, But he said, I cannot eat, until I have spoken my words. And he said—Speak!
34 Entonces él dijo: Yo soy siervo de Abraham;
Then said he, —Servant of Abraham, am I.
35 Y Jehová ha bendecido mucho a mi señor, y háse engrandecido; y le ha dado ovejas y vacas, plata y oro, siervos y siervas, camellos y asnos.
Now, Yahweh, having blessed my lord exceedingly, and made him great, —and given him flocks and herds and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels, and asses,
36 Y Sara, mujer de mi señor, parió un hijo a mi señor después de su vejez, al cual ha dado todo cuanto tiene.
then did Sarah wife of my lord, bear a son to my lord, after she had become old, —so he gave to him all that he had;
37 Y mi señor me hizo jurar, diciendo: No tomarás mujer para mi hijo de las hijas de los Cananeos, en cuya tierra yo habito:
And my lord put me on oath saying, —Thou shalt not take a wife for my son, of the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land, I, am dwelling;
38 Mas irás a la casa de mi padre, y a mi parentela, y tomarás de allá mujer para mi hijo.
but, unto the house of my father, shalt thou go, and unto my family, —and take a wife for my son.
39 Y yo dije a mi señor: Quizá no querrá venir en pos de mí la mujer.
So I said unto my lord, —Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
40 Entonces él me respondió: Jehová, en cuya presencia yo he andado, enviará su ángel contigo, y prosperará tu camino, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo de mi linaje y de la casa de mi padre:
And he said unto me, —Yahweh, before whom I have walked to and fro, will send his messenger with thee, so shall he prosper thy way, and thou shalt take a wife for my son out of my kindred and out of the house of my father.
41 Entonces serás limpio de mi juramento, cuando hubieres llegado a mi linaje: y si no te la dieren, serás limpio de mi juramento.
Then, shalt thou clear thyself from mine oath, for thou shalt go in unto my kindred, —and, if they will not grant her unto thee, then shalt thou be clear from mine oath.
42 Y vine hoy a la fuente, y dije: Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, si tú prosperas hoy mi camino por el cual yo ando;
So I came in to-day, unto the fountain, —and I said O Yahweh God of my lord Abraham! if, I pray thee thou art prospering my way whereon I am going,
43 He aquí, yo estoy junto a esta fuente de agua; sea pues, que la doncella que saliere por agua, a la cual yo dijere: Dáme ahora de beber un poco de agua de tu cántaro;
here, am I stationed by the fountain of water, —so then it shall come to pass that, the maiden that is coming forth to draw, and I shall say unto her Let me drink. I pray thee a little water out of thy pitcher;
44 Y ella me respondiere: Bebe tú, y también para tus camellos sacaré agua: esta sea la mujer que aparejó Jehová al hijo de mi señor.
and she shall say unto me Both, thou, drink, and for thy camels also, will I draw, the same, shall be the woman whom Yahweh hath appointed for the son of my lord.
45 Y antes que acabase de hablar en mi corazón, he aquí Rebeca que salía con su cántaro sobre su hombro, y descendió a la fuente, y sacó agua: y yo la dije: Ruégote que me des a beber.
Ere yet, I, could make an end of speaking unto mine own heart, lo! then Rebekah, coming forth, with her pitcher on her shoulder, and she went down to the fountain, and drew, —and I said unto her Let me drink I pray thee!
46 Y ella prestamente abajó su cántaro de encima de sí, y dijo: Bebe, y también a tus camellos daré a beber. Y bebí, y dio también de beber a mis camellos.
So she hastened and lowered her pitcher from off her, and said. Drink! and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, —So I drank and the camels also, she let drink.
47 Entonces preguntéle, y dije: ¿Cúya hija eres? Y ella respondió: Hija de Batuel, hijo de Nacor, que le parió Melca. Entonces púsele un pendiente sobre su frente y ajorcas sobre sus manos.
Then I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said Daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom, Milcah, bare to him, —Then put I the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands;
48 E inclinéme, y adoré a Jehová, y bendije a Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, que me había guiado por camino derecho para tomar la hija del hermano de mi señor para su hijo.
and bowed my head and bent myself down unto Yahweh, —and I blessed Yahweh God of my lord Abraham, who had led me in a way of faithfulness, to take the daughter of the brother of my lord for his son.
49 Ahora pues, si vosotros hacéis misericordia y verdad con mi señor, declarádmelo: y si no, declarádmelo, y echaré, o a diestra, o a siniestra.
Now, therefore, if ye are dealing in lovingkindness and faithfulness with my lord, tell me, —and, if not, tell me, that I may turn unto the right hand or unto the left.
50 Entonces Labán y Batuel respondieron, y dijeron: De Jehová ha salido esto, no podemos hablarte malo ni bueno.
Then answered Laban and Bethuel and said, from Yahweh, hath come forth the word, —we cannot speak unto thee ill or well.
51 He ahí Rebeca delante de ti; tómala, y vete, y sea mujer del hijo de tu señor, como lo ha dicho Jehová.
Lo! Rebekah, is before thee, Take her and go thy way, —And let her become wife unto the son of thy lord, as Yahweh hath spoken.
52 Y fue, que como el siervo de Abraham oyó sus palabras, inclinóse a tierra a Jehová.
And it came to pass when Abraham’s servant heard their words, that he bowed himself down towards the earth unto Yahweh.
53 Y sacó el siervo vasos de plata, y vasos de oro, y vestidos, y dio a Rebeca: también dio cosas preciosas a su hermano, y a su madre.
Then the servant brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment, and gave unto Rebekah, —and precious things, gave he to her brother and to her mother.
54 Y comieron y bebieron él y los varones que venían con él, y durmieron: y levantándose de mañana, dijo: Enviádme a mi señor.
And they did eat and drink he, and the men who were with him, and they tarried the night, —and when they arose in the morning, he said Let me go unto my lord!
55 Entonces respondió su hermano y su madre: Espere la moza con nosotros a lo menos diez días, y después irá.
Then said her brother and her mother, Let the young woman remain with us some days or rather ten, —After that, she shall go.
56 Y él les dijo: No me detengáis, pues que Jehová ha prosperado mi camino: enviádme que me vaya a mi señor.
And he said unto them, Do not hinder me, when, Yahweh, hath prospered my journey, —Let me go, that I may take my journey unto my lord!
57 Ellos respondieron entonces: Llamemos a la moza y preguntémosle.
Then said they, We must call the young woman and ask at her mouth.
58 Y llamaron a Rebeca, y dijéronle: ¿Irás tú con este varón? Y ella respondió: Sí; iré.
So they called Rebekah and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59 Entonces enviaron a Rebeca su hermana, y a su ama, y al siervo de Abraham, y a sus varones.
So they let go Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant and his men.
60 Y bendijeron a Rebeca, y dijéronle: Nuestra hermana eres, seas en millares de millares: y tu generación posea la puerta de sus enemigos.
And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister! become thou, thousands of ten thousands, —And let thy seed take possession of the gate of them that hate them!
61 Levantóse entonces Rebeca y sus mozas, y subieron sobre los camellos, y siguieron al varón: y el siervo tomó a Rebeca, y fuése.
Then mounted Rebekah and her young woman and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man, —so the servant took Rebekah. and went his way.
62 Y venía Isaac del pozo del Viviente que me ve; porque él habitaba en la tierra del mediodía:
Now, Isaac, had come in at the entrance, of Beer-lahai-roi, —for, he, was dwelling in the land of the South:
63 Y había salido Isaac a orar al campo a la hora de la tarde; y alzando sus ojos, miró; y, he aquí, los camellos que venían.
and Isaac came forth to meditate in the field at the approach of evening, —so he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo! camels, coming in.
64 Rebeca también alzó sus ojos, y vio a Isaac, y descendió del camello.
And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and saw Isaac, —so she alighted with haste from off the camel;
65 Porque había preguntado al siervo: ¿Quién es este varón que viene por el campo hacia nosotros? Y el siervo había respondido: Este es mi señor. Ella entonces tomó el velo, y cubrióse.
and said unto the servant, Who is this man that is walking in the field to meet us? And the servant said, That, is my lord. So she took the veil and covered herself.
66 Entonces el siervo contó a Isaac todo lo que había hecho.
And the servant recounted to Isaac, —all the things which he had done.
67 Y metióla Isaac a la tienda de su madre Sara, y tomó a Rebeca por mujer; y la amó: y consolóse Isaac después de la muerte de su madre.
And Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother; thus he took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her, —and Isaac consoled himself, for the loss of his mother.
