Éxodo 17
1 Y toda la compañía de los hijos de Israel partió del desierto de Sin por sus jornadas, al mandamiento de Jehová, y asentaron el campo en Rafidim, y no había agua para que el pueblo bebiese.
All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Cin [Clay], by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Y riñó el pueblo con Moisés, y dijeron: Dádnos agua, que bebamos. Y Moisés les dijo: ¿Por qué reñis conmigo? ¿Por qué tentáis a Jehová?
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
3 Así que el pueblo tuvo allí sed de agua, y murmuró contra Moisés, y dijo: ¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto, para matarnos de sed a nosotros y a nuestros hijos, y a nuestros ganados?
The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
4 Entonces Moisés clamó a Jehová diciendo: ¿Qué haré con este pueblo? De aquí a un poco me apedrearán.
Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Pasa delante del pueblo; y toma contigo de los ancianos de Israel, y toma también en tu mano tu vara, con que heriste el río, y vé:
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6 He aquí que yo estoy delante de ti allí sobre la peña en Horeb: y herirás la peña, y saldrán de ella aguas, y beberá el pueblo. Y Moisés lo hizo así en presencia de los ancianos de Israel.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
7 Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar, Massa y Meriba, por la rencilla de los hijos de Israel; y porque tentaron a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Si está Jehová entre nosotros, o no?
He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
8 Y vino Amalec, y peleó con Israel en Rafidim.
Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
9 Y dijo Moisés a Josué: Escógenos varones, y sal, pelea con Amalec: mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre del collado, y la vara de Dios en mi mano.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Yah Salvation], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
10 E hizo Josué como le dijo Moisés, peleando con Amalec: y Moisés, y Aarón, y Jur subieron a la cumbre del collado.
So Joshua [Yah Salvation] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Y era que como alzaba Moisés su mano, Israel prevalecía; mas como él abajaba su mano, prevalecía Amalec.
When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
12 Y las manos de Moisés eran pesadas, y tomaron una piedra, y pusiéronla debajo de él, y él se sentó sobre ella; y Aarón y Jur sustentaban sus manos, el uno de una parte y el otro de otra, y hubo en sus manos firmeza hasta que se puso el sol.
But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
13 Y Josué deshizo a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.
Joshua [Yah Salvation] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Y Jehová dijo a Moisés: Escribe esto por memoria en el libro, y pon en oídos de Josué; que rayendo raeré del todo la memoria de Amalec de debajo del cielo.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Yah Salvation]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
15 Y Moisés edificó altar, y llamó su nombre Jehová-nissi:
Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
16 Y dijo: Porque la mano sobre el trono de Jehová, que Jehová tendrá guerra con Amalec, de generación en generación.
He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
