Deuteronomio 4

1 Ahora pues, oh Israel, oye los estatutos, y derechos que yo os enseño para que hagáis, y viváis, y entréis, y heredéis la tierra que Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres te da.

Now, therefore, O Israel, hearken thou unto the statutes, and unto the regulations, which, I, am teaching you, to do [them], —to the end ye may live and enter and possess the land, which, Yahweh, the God of your fathers, is giving unto you.

2 No añadiréis a la palabra, que yo os mando, ni disminuiréis de ella, para que guardéis los mandamientos de Jehová vuestro Dios, que yo os mando.

Ye shall not add unto the word which, I, am commanding you, neither shall ye take away therefrom, —that ye may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, which, I, am commanding you.

3 Vuestros ojos vieron lo que hizo Jehová por Baal-pehor: que a todo hombre que fue en pos de Baal-pehor destruyó Jehová tu Dios de en medio de ti:

Yours are the eyes, that have seen what Yahweh did in Baal-peor, for every man who went after Baal-peor, did Yahweh thy God destroy out of thy midst;

4 Mas vosotros, que os llegasteis a Jehová vuestro Dios, todos estáis vivos hoy.

but, ye who kept on cleaving unto Yahweh your God, alive, are ye all to-day.

5 Mirád, yo os he enseñado estatutos y derechos, como Jehová mi Dios me mandó, para que hagáis así en medio de la tierra en la cual entráis para heredarla.

See! I have taught you statutes, and regulations, as Yahweh my God commanded me, —that ye should do so, in the midst of the land whereinto ye are entering to possess it.

6 Guardád pues, y hacéd: porque esta es vuestra sabiduría, y vuestra inteligencia en ojos de los pueblos, que oirán todos estos estatutos, y dirán: Ciertamente pueblo sabio y entendido, gente grande es esta.

Therefore shall ye observe, and do [them], for that, will be your wisdom, and discernment, in the eyes of the peoples, —who will hear all these statutes, and will say—Nevertheless, a people wise and discerning, is this great nation.

7 Porque ¿qué gente hay grande, que tenga los dioses cercanos a sí, como Jehová nuestro Dios en todas las cosas por las cuales le llamamos?

For what great nation is there which hath gods nigh unto it, —like Yahweh our God, whensoever we have cried out unto him.

8 Y ¿qué gente hay grande, que tenga estatutos y derechos justos, como es toda esta ley, que yo doy delante de vosotros hoy?

Or what great nation which hath righteous statutes and regulations, like all this law, which, I, am setting before you to-day?

9 Por tanto guárdate, y guarda tu alma con diligencia, que no te olvides de las cosas que tus ojos han visto, ni se aparten de tu corazón todos los días de tu vida: y enseñarlas has a tus hijos, y a los hijos de tus hijos.

Only take thou heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently, so that thou forget not the things which thine own eyes have seen, and so that they go not out of thy heart, all the days of thy life, —but thou shalt make them known unto thy sons and unto thy sons’ sons: —

10 El día que estuviste delante de Jehová tu Dios en Horeb, cuando Jehová me dijo: Júntame el pueblo, para que yo les haga oír mis palabras, las cuales aprenderán para temerme todos los días que vivieren sobre la tierra, y enseñarán a sus hijos.

What day thou didst stand before Yahweh thy God, in Horeb, when Yahweh said unto me, Gather unto me the people, that I may let them hear my words, —which they must learn that they may revere me all the days which they are living upon the soil, their children also, must they teach.

11 Y os llegasteis, y os pusisteis al pie del monte, y el monte ardía en fuego hasta en medio de los cielos, tinieblas, nube, y oscuridad.

So ye drew near and stood, under the mountain. Now, the mountain, was burning with fire, up to the midst of the heavens, —darkness, cloud, and thick gloom.

12 Y habló Jehová con vosotros de en medio del fuego; la voz de sus palabras oísteis, mas figura ninguna visteis más de la voz.

Then spake Yahweh unto you out of the midst of the fire, —a voice of words, ye were hearing, no form, were ye seeing, there was only a voice.

13 Y él os denunció su concierto, el cual os mandó que hicieseis, las diez palabras, y escribiólas en dos tablas de piedra.

Then declared he unto you his covenant which he commanded you to do, the ten words, —and wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 A mí también me mandó Jehová entonces, que os enseñase los estatutos y derechos, para que los hicieseis en la tierra, a la cual pasáis, para poseerla.

And unto me, gave Yahweh command, at that time, to teach you statutes and regulations, —that ye should do them, in the land whereinto ye are passing over to possess it.

15 Guardád pues mucho vuestras almas; porque ninguna figura visteis el día que Jehová habló con vosotros en Horeb de en medio del fuego;

Ye must take diligent heed, therefore unto your own souls, for ye saw no manner of form, on the day Yahweh spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire;

16 Que no corrompáis, y hagáis para vosotros escultura, imagen de alguna semejanza, figura de macho o de hembra:

lest ye should break faith, and make you an image, a form of any likeness, —a model of male or female;

17 Figura de ningún animal, que sea en la tierra, figura de ningún ave de alas que vuele por el aire,

a model of any beast that is in the earth, —a model of any winged bird, that flieth in the heavens;

18 Figura de ningún animal que vaya arrastrando por la tierra, figura de ningún pez que esté en el agua debajo de la tierra.

a model of any thing that creepeth on the ground, —a model of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth;

19 Y porque no alces tus ojos al cielo, y veas el sol, y la luna, y las estrellas, y todo el ejército del cielo, y seas impelido, y te inclines a ellos, y les sirvas, porque Jehová tu Dios los ha concedido a todos los pueblos debajo de todos los cielos.

or lest thou shouldest lift up thine eyes towards the heavens and see the sun and the moon, and the stars—all the host of the heavens, and shouldest be seduced, and shouldest bow thyself down to them and he led to serve them, —the which Yahweh thy God hath assigned unto all the peoples under all the heavens;

20 Empero a vosotros Jehová os tomó, y os sacó del horno de hierro, de Egipto, para que seáis a él por pueblo de heredad, como parece en este día.

whereas you, hath Yahweh taken, and brought you forth out of a smelting-pot of iron, out of Egypt, —that ye might become his own inherited people as at this day.

21 Y Jehová se enojó contra mí sobre vuestros negocios, y juró que yo no pasaría el Jordán, ni entraría en la buena tierra, que Jehová tu Dios te da por heredad.

But, Yahweh shewed himself angry with me, for your sakes, —and sware that I should not pass over the Jordan, and that I should not enter into the good land, which, Yahweh thy God, is giving unto thee as an inheritance;

22 Por lo cual yo muero en esta tierra, y no paso el Jordán: mas vosotros pasaréis, y heredaréis esta buena tierra.

for, I, am about to die in this land, I am not to pass over the Jordan, —but, ye, are to pass over, and possess this good land.

23 Guardáos no os olvidéis del concierto de Jehová vuestro Dios, que él concertó con vosotros, y os hagáis escultura, imagen de cualquier cosa, como Jehová tu Dios te ha mandado.

Take heed to yourselves lest ye forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he hath solemnised with you, —and so make for yourselves an image, the form of anything, the which Yahweh thy God hath forbidden thee;

24 Porque Jehová tu Dios es fuego que consume, Dios zeloso.

seeing that as for Yahweh thy God, a consuming fire, he is, —a jealous GOD.

25 Cuando hubiereis engendrado hijos y nietos, y hubiereis envejecido en aquella tierra, y corrompiereis, e hiciereis escultura, imagen de cualquier cosa, e hiciereis mal en ojos de Jehová vuestro Dios para enojarle,

When thou shalt beget sons, and sons’ sons, and become careless in the land and break faith and make an image the form of any thing, and shalt do the thing that is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh thy God provoking him to anger,

26 Yo pongo hoy por testigos al cielo y a la tierra, que pereciendo pereceréis presto de la tierra a la cual pasáis el Jordán para heredarla: no estaréis en ella largos días, que no seáis destruidos.

I take both the heavens and the earth to witness against you to-day, that ye shall, perish, speedily, from off the land which ye are passing over the Jordan to possess, —ye shall not prolong your days thereupon; for, ye shall surely be laid waste;

27 Y Jehová os esparcirá entre los pueblos, y quedaréis pocos hombres en número entre las gentes a las cuales Jehová os llevará.

and Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, —and ye shall have left remaining of you men easily counted, among the nations whither Yahweh will drive you;

28 Y serviréis allí a dioses hechos de manos de hombre, a madera, y a piedra, que no ven, ni oyen, ni comen, ni huelen.

and ye will serve there gods made by the hands of man, —wood or stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

29 Mas si desde allí buscares a Jehová tu Dios, hallarle has: si le buscares de todo tu corazón, y de toda tu alma.

If thou shalt seek from thence, Yahweh thy God, then shalt thou find him, —when thou shalt search after him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.

30 Cuando estuvieres en angustia, y te hallaren todas estas cosas, si a la postre te volvieres a Jehová tu Dios, y oyeres su voz,

In thy distress, when all these things have found thee out—in the afterpart of the days, thou wilt return unto Yahweh thy God, and wilt hearken to his voice.

31 Porque Dios misericordioso es Jehová tu Dios, no te dejará, ni te destruirá, ni se olvidará del concierto de tus padres, que les juró.

For, a GOD of compassion, is Yahweh thy God, he will not forsake thee neither will he destroy thee, —nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

32 Porque pregunta ahora de los tiempos antiguos, que han sido antes de ti, desde el día que creó Dios al hombre sobre la tierra, y desde el un cabo del cielo al otro, ¿si se ha hecho cosa semejante a esta gran cosa, o se haya oído otra como ella?

For ask, I pray you, of the former days which were before thee, even from the day when God created man upon the earth, yea from one end of the heavens even to the other end of the heavens, —whether aught was ever brought to pass, like this great thing, or was ever heard of like it:

33 ¿Ha oído pueblo alguno la voz de Dios, que hablase de en medio del fuego, y ha vivido, como tú la oíste?

Did a people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of fire, as, thou, didst hear, and yet live?

34 O ¿ha probado Dios a venir a tomar para sí gente de en medio de otra gente con pruebas, con señales, con milagros, y con guerra, y mano fuerte, y brazo extendido, y espantos grandes, como todas las cosas que hizo con vosotros Jehová vuestro Dios en Egipto a tus ojos?

Or did a god ever make trial of entering in to take unto him a nation out of the midst of a nation, by provings, by signs and by wonders and by fighting, and by a firm hand and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors, —according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?

35 A ti te fue mostrado, para que supieses, que Jehová él es Dios, no hay más fuera de él.

Thou, wast allowed to see that thou mightest know, that Yahweh, he is God, there is none other than he alone.

36 De los cielos te hizo oír su voz, para enseñarte, y sobre la tierra te mostró su gran fuego, y sus palabras has oído de en medio del fuego.

Out of the heavens, he let thee hear his voice to instruct thee, —and, upon the earth, he let thee see his great fire, and his own words, thou didst hear out of the midst of the fire.

37 Y por cuanto él amó a tus padres, escogió su simiente después de ellos, y te sacó delante de sí de Egipto con su gran poder:

And because that he loved thy fathers, therefore chose he his seed after him, —and brought thee forth with his presence with his great might, out of Egypt;

38 Para echar de delante de ti gentes grandes, y más fuertes que tú, y para meterte a ti, y darte su tierra por heredad, como parece hoy.

to dispossess nations, greater and stronger than thou from before thee, —to bring thee in. to give unto thee their land for an inheritance: As at this day.

39 Aprende pues hoy, y reduce a tu corazón que Jehová él es el Dios arriba en el cielo, y abajo sobre la tierra, no hay otro.

So then thou must consider to-day, and bring it back to thy heart, that, Yahweh, he is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath, —there is none other.

40 Y guarda sus estatutos y sus mandamientos, que yo te mando hoy, para que hayas bien tú y tus hijos después de ti, y prolongues tus días sobre la tierra, que Jehová tu Dios te da todo el tiempo.

So shalt thou keep his statutes and his commandments which, I, am commanding thee to-day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy sons after thee, —and to the end thou mayest prolong thy days upon the soil, which Yahweh thy God, is giving thee, all the days.

41 Entonces apartó Moisés tres ciudades de esta parte del Jordán al nacimiento del sol,

Then, did Moses set apart three cities, over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun:

42 Para que huyese allí el homicida, que matase a su prójimo por yerro, que no hubiese tenido enemistad con él desde ayer ni desde anteayer; que huyese a una de estas ciudades, y viviese.

that the manslayer might flee thither who should slay his neighbour unawares, he, not having hated him, aforetime, —and might flee unto one of these cities, and live:

43 A Bosor en el desierto en tierra de la campaña, de los Rubenitas; y a Ramot en Galaad, de los Gaditas; y a Golam en Basán, de los de Manasés.

namely Bezer, in the desert of the table-land, for the Reubenites, —and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

44 Esta pues es la ley que Moisés propuso delante de los hijos de Israel.

This, then is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel:

45 Estos son los testimonios, y los estatutos, y los derechos que Moisés dijo a los hijos de Israel, cuando hubieron salido de Egipto:

These, are the testimonies, and the statutes and the regulations, —which Moses spake unto the sons of Israel when they came forth out of Egypt:

46 De esta parte del Jordán en el valle, delante de Bet-pehor en la tierra de Sejón rey de los Amorreos, que habitaba en Jesebón, al cual hirió Moisés y los hijos de Israel, cuando hubieron salido de Egipto.

over the Jordan in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, —whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote, when they came forth out of Egypt:

47 Y poseyeron su tierra, y la tierra de Og rey de Basán, dos reyes de los Amorreos, que estaban de esta parte del Jordán al nacimiento del sol:

so they took possession of his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan the two kings of the Amorites, who were over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun;

48 Desde Aroer, que estaba junto a la ribera del arroyo de Arnón hasta el monte de Sión, que es Hermón.

from Aroer which is on the edge of the ravine of Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, the same, is Hermon;

49 Y toda la campaña de esta parte del Jordán al oriente hasta la mar de la campaña, las vertientes de las aguas abajo del Fasga.

and all the waste plain over the Jordan, towards sunrise, even unto the sea of the waste plain, —under the slopes of the Pisgah.
