Hechos 6
1 En aquellos días creciendo el número de los discípulos hubo murmuración de los Helenistas contra los Hebreos, de que sus viudas eran menospreciadas en el ministerio cuotidiano.
Now in these days while the number of the disciples was multiplying, the Grecian Jews began to murmur against the Hebrews, because their widows were habitually overlooked in the distribution of alms.
2 Así que los doce, convocada la multitud de los discípulos, dijeron: No es justo que nosotros dejemos la palabra de Dios, y sirvamos a las mesas.
Then the Twelve called the general body of the disciples together, and said to them. "It is not fitting for us to leave off preaching the Word of God, and minister at tables.
3 Considerád pues, hermanos, sobre siete varones de entre vosotros de buena reputación, llenos del Espíritu Santo y de sabiduría, los cuales pongamos sobre este negocio.
"So, brothers, find from among your own number seven men of good reputation who are full of the Spirit and of wisdom, and we will appoint them over this business.
4 Mas nosotros nos ocuparemos con diligencia en la oración, y en el ministerio de la palabra.
"But we will give ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word."
5 Y plugo este parecer a toda la multitud; y eligieron a Esteban, varón lleno de fe y del Espíritu Santo, y a Felipe, y a Procoro, y a Nicanor, y a Timón, y a Parmenas, y a Nicolás prosélito de Antioquía.
This plan commended itself to the whole body, and they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch.
6 A estos presentaron en presencia de los apóstoles: los cuales orando les pusieron las manos encima.
These men they presented to the apostles who, when they had prayed, laid their hands upon them.
7 Y la palabra del Señor crecía; y el número de los discípulos se multiplicaba mucho en Jerusalem; y una gran multitud de los sacerdotes también obedecía a la fe.
And the word of the Lord continued to spread; and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was increasing exceedingly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
8 Empero Esteban, lleno de fe y de poder, hacía prodigios y milagros grandes entre el pueblo.
Meanwhile Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people.
9 Levantáronse entonces unos de la sinagoga que se llama de los Libertinos, y Cireneos, y Alejandrinos, y de los que eran de Cilicia, y de Asia, disputando con Esteban.
But certain men from the so-called "Synagogue of the Freedmen" and certain Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, Cilicians, and men from Roman Asia, started to dispute with Stephen,
10 Mas no podían resistir a la sabiduría, y al Espíritu con que él hablaba.
but were unable to withstand the wisdom and spirit with which he used to speak.
11 Entonces sobornaron a unos que dijesen que le habían oído hablar palabras de blasfemia contra Moisés, y contra Dios.
Then they instigated some to say, "We have heard him speaking blasphemy against Moses and against God;" and in this way they excited the people.
12 Y conmovieron al pueblo, y a los ancianos, y a los escribas; y arremetiendo, le arrebataron, y le trajeron al concilio.
The elders and the scribes rushed upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the Sanhedrin.
13 Y pusieron testigos falsos que dijesen: Este hombre no cesa de hablar palabras de blasfemia contra este lugar santo, y contra la ley;
They also set up false witnesses who testified. "This fellow is continually talking against the Holy Place and against the law.
14 Porque le hemos oído decir: Que este Jesús Nazareno destruirá este lugar, y mudará las costumbres que nos dio Moisés.
"For we have heard him say that Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which were handed down to us by Moses."
15 Entonces todos los que estaban sentados en el concilio, puestos los ojos en él, vieron su rostro como el rostro de un ángel.
Then all who were sitting in the council at once fixed their eyes upon him, and saw his face like the face of an angel.
