2 Samuel 14

1 Y conociendo Joab, hijo de Sarvia, que el corazón del rey estaba con Absalom,

Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom.

2 Envió Joab a Tecua, y tomó de allá una mujer astuta, y le dijo: Yo te ruego que te enlutes, y te vistas de ropas de luto, y no te unjas con óleo, antes sé como una mujer que ha mucho tiempo que trae luto por algún muerto.

And Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her: 'I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel, I pray thee, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead;

3 Y entrando al rey, habla con él de esta manera. Entonces puso Joab las palabras en su boca.

and go in to the king, and speak on this manner unto him.' So Joab put the words in her mouth.

4 Entró pues aquella mujer de Tecua al rey, y postrándose sobre su rostro en tierra hizo reverencia, y dijo: Oh rey, salva.

And when the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and prostrated herself, and said: 'Help, O king.'

5 Y el rey le dijo: ¿Qué has? Y ella respondió: Yo soy de cierto una mujer viuda, y mi marido es muerto.

And the king said unto her: 'What aileth thee?' And she answered: 'Of a truth I am a widow, my husband being dead.

6 Y tu sierva tenía dos hijos, y los dos riñeron en el campo: y no habiendo quien los despartiese, hirió el uno al otro, y le mató.

And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and killed him.

7 Y, he aquí, toda la parentela se ha levantado contra tu sierva, diciendo: Entrega al que mató a su hermano, para que le matemos por la vida de su hermano, a quien él mató; y quitemos también el heredero. Así apagarán el ascua que me ha quedado, no dejando a mi marido nombre ni reliquia sobre la tierra.

And, behold, the whole family is risen against thy handmaid, and they said: Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he slew, and so destroy the heir also. Thus will they quench my coal which is left, and will leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the face of the earth.'

8 Entonces el rey dijo a la mujer. Vete a tu casa, que yo mandaré acerca de ti.

And the king said unto the woman: 'Go to thy house, and I will give charge concerning thee.'

9 Y la mujer de Tecua dijo al rey: Rey, señor mío, la maldad sea sobre mí, y sobre la casa de mi padre; y el rey y su trono sea sin culpa.

And the woman of Tekoa said unto the king: 'My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house; and the king and his throne be guiltless.'

10 Y el rey dijo: Al que hablare contra ti, tráele a mí, que no te tocará más.

And the king said: 'Whosoever saith aught unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.'

11 Y ella dijo: Yo te ruego, oh rey, que te acuerdes de Jehová tu Dios, que no hagas multiplicar los vengadores de la sangre, para echar a perder y destruir a mi hijo. Y él respondió: Vive Jehová, que no caerá ni aun un cabello de la cabeza de tu hijo en tierra.

Then said she: 'I pray thee, let the king remember the LORD thy God, that the avenger of blood destroy not any more, lest they destroy my son.' And he said: 'As the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.'

12 Y la mujer dijo: Yo te ruego que hable tu criada una palabra a mi señor el rey. Y él dijo: Habla.

Then the woman said: 'Let thy handmaid, I pray thee, speak a word unto my lord the king.' And he said: 'Say on.'

13 Entonces la mujer dijo: ¿Por qué pues piensas tú otro tanto contra el pueblo de Dios? que hablando el rey esta palabra es como culpado: por cuanto el rey no hace volver su fugitivo.

And the woman said: 'Wherefore then hast thou devised such a thing against the people of God? for in speaking this word the king is as one that is guilty, in that the king doth not fetch home again his banished one.

14 Porque muriendo morimos, y somos como aguas derramadas por tierra, que nunca más son tornadas a coger, ni Dios le quitará la vida: mas piensa pensamientos para no echar de sí al desechado.

For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person; but let him devise means, that he that is banished be not an outcast from him.

15 Y que yo he venido ahora para decir esto al rey, mi señor, es porque el pueblo me ha puesto miedo. Mas tu sierva dijo en sí: Ahora yo hablaré al rey, quizá hará el rey la palabra de su sierva.

Now therefore seeing that I am come to speak this word unto my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid; and thy handmaid said: I will now speak unto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his servant.

16 Porque el rey oirá para librar a su sierva de mano del hombre que me quiere raer a mí y a mi hijo juntamente de la heredad de Dios.

For the king will hear, to deliver his servant out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.

17 Tu sierva pues dice: Que sea ahora la palabra de mi señor el rey para descanso: pues que mi señor el rey es como un ángel de Dios para escuchar lo bueno y lo malo; y Jehová tu Dios sea contigo.

Then thy handmaid said: Let, I pray thee, the word of my lord the king be for my comfort; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad; and the LORD thy God be with thee.'

18 Entonces el rey respondió, y dijo a la mujer: Yo te ruego que no me encubras nada de lo que yo te preguntare. Y la mujer dijo: Diga mi señor el rey.

Then the king answered and said unto the woman: 'Hide not from me, I pray thee, aught that I shall ask thee.' And the woman said: 'Let my lord the king now speak.'

19 Y el rey dijo: ¿No ha sido la mano de Joab contigo en todas estas cosas? Y la mujer respondió, y dijo: Viva tu alma, rey señor mío, que no hay porque ir a mano derecha, ni a mano izquierda de todo lo que mi señor el rey ha hablado: porque tu siervo Joab él me mandó, y él puso en la boca de tu sierva todas estas palabras.

And the king said: 'Is the hand of Joab with thee in all this?' And the woman answered and said: 'As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from aught that my lord the king hath spoken; for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thy handmaid;

20 Y que yo volviese la forma de las palabras, Joab tu siervo lo ha hecho. Mas mi señor es sabio conforme a la sabiduría de un ángel de Dios, para saber lo que se hace en la tierra.

to change the face of the matter hath thy servant Joab done this thing; and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.'

21 Entonces el rey dijo a Joab: He aquí, yo hago esto. Vé, y haz volver al mozo Absalom.

And the king said unto Joab: 'Behold now, I have granted this request; go therefore, bring the young man Absalom back.'

22 Y Joab se postró en tierra sobre su rostro, e hizo reverencia, y bendijo al rey; y dijo Joab: Hoy ha entendido tu siervo, que he hallado gracia en tus ojos, rey señor mío; pues que ha hecho el rey la palabra de su siervo.

And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and prostrated himself, and blessed the king; and Joab said: 'To-day thy servant knoweth that I have found favour in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath performed the request of thy servant.'

23 Y levantóse Joab, y fue a Gessur, y volvió a Absalom a Jerusalem.

So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

24 Y el rey dijo: Váyase a su casa, y no vea mi rostro. Y Absalom se volvió a su casa, y no vio el rostro del rey.

And the king said: 'Let him turn to his own house, but let him not see my face.' So Absalom turned to his own house, and saw not the king's face.

25 No había varón tan hermoso en todo Israel como Absalom, para alabar en gran manera: desde la planta de su pie hasta la mollera no había en él mácula.

Now in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty; from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

26 Y cuando trasquilaba su cabeza (lo cual era cada año al cabo del año, que él se trasquilaba, porque le hacía molestia el cabello, y le trasquilaba, ) pesaba el cabello de su cabeza doscientos siclos de peso real.

And when he polled his head — now it was at every year's end that he polled it; because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he polled it — he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, after the king's weight.

27 Y naciéronle a Absalom tres hijos, y una hija que se llamaba Tamar: la cual fue hermosa de ver.

And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar; she was a woman of a fair countenance.

28 Y estuvo Absalom dos años de tiempo en Jerusalem, que nunca vio el rostro del rey.

And Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem; and he saw not the kings face.

29 Y envió Absalom por Joab para enviarle al rey: mas no quiso venir a él; ni aunque envió por él la segunda vez, quiso venir.

Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king; but he would not come to him; and he sent again a second time, but he would not come.

30 Entonces dijo a sus siervos: Bien sabéis las tierras de Joab junto a mi lugar, donde tiene sus cebadas: id, y pegádle fuego. Y los siervos de Absalom pegaron fuego a las tierras.

Therefore he said unto his servants: 'See, Joab's field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire.' And Absalom's servants set the field on fire.

31 Y levantóse Joab, y vino a Absalom a su casa, y díjole: ¿Por qué han puesto fuego tus siervos a mis tierras?

Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him: 'Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire?'

32 Y Absalom respondió a Joab: He aquí, yo he enviado por ti, diciendo, que vinieses acá, para que yo te enviase al rey, a que le dijeses: ¿Para qué vine de Gessur? Mejor me fuera estarme aun allá. Vea yo ahora la cara del rey: y si hay en mi pecado, máteme.

And Absalom answered Joab: 'Behold, I sent unto thee, saying: Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say: Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it were better for me to be there still; now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be iniquity in me, let him kill me.'

33 Vino pues Joab al rey: e hízoselo saber: y llamó a Absalom, el cual vino al rey, e inclinó su rostro a tierra delante del rey: y el rey besó a Absalom.

So Joab came to the king, and told him; and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king; and the king kissed Absalom.
