2 Reyes 18

1 En el tercero año de Oséas, hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Ezequías, hijo de Acaz, rey de Judá.

Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

2 Cuando comenzó a reinar era de veinte y cinco años, y reinó en Jerusalem veinte y nueve años, el nombre de su madre fue Abí, hija de Zacarías.

Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.

3 Este hizo lo que era recto en ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho David su padre.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father did.

4 Este quitó los altos, y quebró las imágines, y taló los bosques, y quebró la serpiente de metal que había hecho Moisés; porque hasta entonces le quemaban perfumes los hijos de Israel, y llamóle por nombre Nehustán.

He removed the high places, and broke the images, and cut down the groves, and broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made: for to those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.

5 En Jehová Dios de Israel puso su esperanza: después ni antes de él, no hubo otro como él, en todos los reyes de Judá.

He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.

6 Porque se llegó a Jehová, y no se apartó de él; y guardó los mandamientos que mandó Jehová a Moisés.

For he held to the LORD, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.

7 Y Jehová fue con él, y en todas las cosas a que salía prosperaba. El se rebeló contra el rey de Asiria, y no le sirvió.

And the LORD was with him; and he prospered wherever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.

8 Hirió también a los Filisteos hasta Gaza y sus términos, desde las torres de las atalayas hasta la ciudad fortalecida.

He smote the Philistines, even to Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

9 En el cuarto año del rey Ezequías, que era el año séptimo de Oséas, hijo de Ela, rey de Israel, subió Salmanasar rey de los Asirios contra Samaria, y cercóla.

And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

10 Y tomáronla al cabo de tres años, en el sexto año de Ezequías, el cual era el nono año de Oséas rey de Israel, y así fue tomada Samaria.

And at the end of three years they took it: even in the sixth year of Hezekiah, that is in the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.

11 Y el rey de Asiria traspuso a Israel en Asiria, y púsolos en Hala, y en Habor, junto al río de Gozán, y en las ciudades de los Medos:

And the king of Assyria did carry away Israel to Assyria, and put them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes:

12 Por cuanto no habían oído la voz de Jehová su Dios, antes habían quebrantado su concierto; y todas las cosas que Moisés siervo de Jehová había mandado, ni las habían oído, ni hecho.

Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them.

13 Y a los catorce años del rey Ezequías, subió Sennaquerib rey de Asiria contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, y tomólas.

Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.

14 Entonces Ezequías rey de Judá envió al rey de Asiria en Laquis, diciendo: Yo he pecado; vuélvete de mí, y yo llevaré todo lo que me impusieres. Entonces el rey de Asiria impuso a Ezequías rey de Judá trescientos talentos de plata, y treinta talentos de oro.

And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which you put on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

15 Y Ezequías dio toda la plata que fue hallada en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa real.

And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house.

16 Entonces rompió Ezequías las puertas del templo de Jehová, y los umbrales que el mismo rey Ezequías había cubierto de oro, y diólo al rey de Asiria.

At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

17 Y el rey de Asiria envió a Tartán, y a Rabsaris, y a Rabsaces desde Laquis al rey Ezequías con un grande ejército contra Jerusalem. Y subieron, y vinieron a Jerusalem; y subieron y vinieron, y pararon junto al conduto del estanque de arriba, que es en el camino de la heredad del lavador.

And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

18 Y llamaron al rey, y salió a ellos Eliacim, hijo de Helcías, que era mayordomo, y Sobna escriba, y Joa, hijo de Asaf, canciller.

And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

19 Y díjoles Rabsaces: Decíd ahora a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey, el rey de Asiria:

And Rabshakeh said to them, Speak you now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein you trust?

20 ¿Qué confianza es esta en que tú confías? Dices ciertamente: Palabras de labios, consejo, y esfuerzo para la guerra. ¿En qué pues confiás ahora, que te has rebelado contra mí?

You say, (but they are but vain words, ) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom do you trust, that you rebel against me?

21 He aquí, tu confías ahora sobre este bordón de caña quebrado Egipto, que el que en él se recostare, él le entrará por la mano, y se la pasará. Tal es Faraón rey de Egipto a todos los que en él confían.

Now, behold, you trust on the staff of this bruised reed, even on Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.

22 Y sí me decís: Nosotros confiamos en Jehová nuestro Dios: ¿no es él aquel cuyos altos y altares ha quitado Ezequías, y ha dicho a Judá y a Jerusalem: Delante de este altar adoraréis en Jerusalem?

But if you say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and Jerusalem, You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

23 Por tanto ahora yo te ruego que des rehenes a mi señor el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú pudieres dar caballeros para ellos.

Now therefore, I pray you, give pledges to my lord the king of Assyria, and I will deliver you two thousand horses, if you be able on your part to set riders on them.

24 ¿Cómo pues harás volver el rostro de un capitán el menor de los siervos de mi señor, aunque estés confiado en Egipto por sus carros y su gente de a caballo?

How then will you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

25 También, ¿ahora he yo venido sin Jehová a este lugar para destruirlo? Jehová me ha dicho: Sube a esta tierra, y destrúyela.

Am I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

26 Entonces dijo Eliacim, hijo de Helcías, y Sobna, y Joa a Rabsaces: Ruégote que hables a tus siervos Siriaco, porque nosotros lo entendemos, y no hables con nosotros Judaico en los oídos del pueblo, que está sobre el muro.

Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, to Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray you, to your servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews’ language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

27 Y Rabsaces les dijo: ¿Háme enviado mi señor a ti y a tu señor para decir estas palabras, y no antes a los hombres que están sobre el muro, para comer su estiércol, y beber el agua de sus pies con vosotros?

But Rabshakeh said to them, Has my master sent me to your master, and to you, to speak these words? has he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own urine with you?

28 Y paróse Rabsaces, y clamó a gran voz en Judaico, y habló, diciendo: Oíd la palabra del gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

29 Así dijo el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, porque no os podrá librar de mi mano.

Thus says the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you out of his hand:

30 Y no os haga Ezequías confiar en Jehová, diciendo: Librando nos librará Jehová, y esta ciudad no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.

Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

31 No oigáis a Ezequías, porque así dice el rey de Asiria: Dádme presente, y salíd a mí, y cada uno comerá de su vid, y de su higuera, y cada uno beberá las aguas de su pozo;

Listen not to Hezekiah: for thus says the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me, and then eat you every man of his own vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink you every one the waters of his cistern:

32 Hasta que yo venga, y os lleve a una tierra como la vuestra, tierra de grano y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas, tierra de olivas, de aceite, y de miel, y viviréis y no moriréis. No oigáis a Ezequías, porque os engaña cuando dice: Jehová nos librará.

Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive and of honey, that you may live, and not die: and listen not to Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, The LORD will deliver us.

33 ¿Han librando librado los dioses de las gentes cada uno a su tierra de la mano del rey de Asiria?

Has any of the gods of the nations delivered at all his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

34 ¿Dónde está el dios de Emat y de Arfad? ¿Dónde está el dios de Sefarvaim, de Ana, y de Hava? ¿Pudieron estos librar a Samaria de mi mano?

Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah? have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

35 ¿Qué dios de todos los dioses de las provincias ha librado a su provincia de mi mano, para que libre Jehová de mi mano a Jerusalem?

Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

36 Y el pueblo calló, que no le respondieron palabra: porque había mandamiento del rey, el cual había dicho: No le respondáis.

But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

37 Entonces vinieron Eliacim, hijo de Helcías, que era mayordomo, y Sobna el escriba, y Joa, hijo de Asaf, canciller, a Ezequías rasgados sus vestidos, y recitáronle las palabras de Rabsaces.

Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
