1 Tesalonicenses 4

1 Resta, pues, hermanos, que os roguemos y exhortemos en el Señor Jesús, que de la manera que recibisteis de nosotros de como debéis andar, y agradar a Dios, así abundéis más y más.

A few more things: Brothers and sisters, we plead with you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to behave in ways that please God, just as we instructed you. Of course you're already doing this, just do it more and more!

2 Porque ya sabéis qué mandamientos os dimos por el Señor Jesús.

You remember the instructions we gave you on behalf of the Lord Jesus.

3 Porque la voluntad de Dios es esta, a saber, vuestra santificación; que os apartéis de fornicación.

What God wants is for you to live holy lives. So stay away from sexual immorality

4 Que cada uno de vosotros sepa tener su propio vaso en santificación y honor;

in order that each of you may control yourselves in a way that is holy and respectful,

5 No con afecto de concupiscencia, como los Gentiles que no conocen a Dios:

not indulging passionate lust like the heathen who have no knowledge of God.

6 Que ninguno agravie, ni defraude en nada a su hermano; porque el Señor es vengador de todo esto, como ya os habemos dicho y protestado.

Don't cheat or take advantage of another Christian in these matters, for the Lord is the one who executes justice in all such things, as we've already clearly explained to you, and warned you about.

7 Pues no nos ha llamado Dios para vivir en inmundicia, sino en santidad.

For God did not call us to live impure lives, but holy lives.

8 Así que el que nos menosprecia, no menosprecia a hombre, sino a Dios, el cual también nos dio su Espíritu Santo.

So anyone who rejects this position isn't just rejecting what a human being is saying; they are rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

9 Empero, acerca del amor fraternal no habéis menester que os escriba; porque vosotros habéis aprendido de Dios que os améis los unos a los otros.

We certainly don't need to write and tell you to love fellow believers, because God teaches you to love one another—

10 Y a la verdad lo hacéis así con todos los hermanos que están por toda la Macedonia. Os rogamos, empero, hermanos, que vayáis creciendo más y más;

and in fact you are demonstrating this love to all the believers throughout Macedonia. Even so we want to encourage you, brothers and sisters, to love more and more.

11 Y que procuréis estar quietos, y hacer vuestros propios negocios; y que obréis con vuestras manos de la manera que os habemos mandado;

Try to live a quiet life, minding your own business, doing your own work, as we've already explained to you,

12 Y que andéis honestamente para con los de afuera; y que nada de ninguno hayáis menester.

so that your way of life may be respected by non-Christians and you won't have to rely on anyone to provide what you need.

13 Tampoco, hermanos, queremos que estéis en ignorancia acerca de los que duermen, para que no os entristezcáis como los otros que no tienen esperanza.

We don't want you to be confused about what happens when people die, brothers and sisters, so that you won't grieve like others who don't have any hope.

14 Pues si creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó, así también traerá Dios con él a los que durmieron en Jesús.

Since we're convinced that Jesus died and rose again, we're also sure that God will bring with Jesus those who have died trusting in him.

15 Porque os decimos esto en palabra del Señor, que nosotros que vivimos, que habemos quedado hasta la venida del Señor, no seremos delanteros a los que durmieron ya.

What we're telling you comes from the Lord: those of us who are alive and still here when the Lord comes certainly won't precede those who have died.

16 Porque el mismo Señor con algazara, con voz de arcángel, y con trompeta de Dios, descenderá del cielo, y los muertos en Cristo resucitarán los primeros.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the cry of the archangel, and with the sound of God's trumpet, and those who have died in Christ will rise first.

17 Luego nosotros, los que vivimos, los que quedamos, juntamente con ellos seremos arrebatados en las nubes a recibir al Señor en el aire; y así estaremos siempre con el Señor.

Then those of us who are alive and still here will be carried up together with them into the clouds, and we shall meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever!

18 Por tanto consoláos los unos a los otros en estas palabras.

So encourage one another with these words.
