1 Samuel 9
1 Y había un varón de Ben-jamín hombre valeroso, el cual se llamaba Cis, hijo de Abiel, hijo de Seor, hijo de Becorat, hijo de Afias, hijo de un varón de Jemini:
Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Bechorath, the son of Aphiach, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.
2 Este tenía un hijo que se llamaba Saul, mancebo y hermoso, que entre los hijos de Israel no había otro más hermoso que él: del hombro arriba sobrepujaba a todo el pueblo.
And he had a son whose name was Saul, young and handsome; and there was not a man among the children of Israel handsomer than he: from his shoulders and upward he was taller than any of the people.
3 Y habíanse perdido las asnas de Cis padre de Saul: y dijo Cis a Saul su hijo: Toma ahora contigo alguno de los criados, y levántate, y vé a buscar las asnas.
And there were lost the asses belonging to Kish, Saul's father; and Kish said to Saul his son, Do take with thee one of the servants, and arise, go seek the asses.
4 Y él pasó el monte de Efraím y de allí pasó en la tierra de Salisa: y no las hallaron. Y pasaron por la tierra de Salim, y tampoco. Y pasaron por la tierra de Jemini, y no las hallaron.
And he passed through the mountain of Ephraim, and passed through the land of Shalisha, but they found [them] not; then they passed through the land of Sha'alim, and there was nothing there; and he passed through the land of Benjamin, but they found them not.
5 Y cuando vinieron a la tierra de Suf, Saul dijo a su criado que tenía consigo: Ven, volvámosnos porque quizá mi padre, dejadas las asnas, estará congojado por nosotros.
When they were come in the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, Come, and let us return; lest my father relinquish the care for the asses, and become anxious for us.
6 Y él le respondió: He aquí ahora que en esta ciudad está el varón de Dios, que es varón insigne: todas las cosas que él dijere, sin duda vendrán. Vamos ahora allá: quizá nos enseñará nuestro camino por donde vayamos.
And the other said unto him, Behold now, a man of God is in this city, and the man is honored; all that he ever saith will surely come to pass: now let us go thither; perhaps he can tell us our way that we should go.
7 Y Saul respondió a su criado: Vamos pues: mas ¿qué llevaremos al varón? Porque el pan de nuestras alforjas se ha acabado, y no tenemos que presentar al varón de Dios: porque ¿qué tenemos?
Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we should go, what shall we bring to the man? for the bread is spent out of our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we with us?
8 Entonces tornó el criado a responder a Saul, diciendo: He aquí, se halla en mi mano un cuatro de siclo de plata; esto daré al varón de Dios, porque nos declare nuestro camino.
And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver; and I will give this to the man of God, that he may tell us our way.
9 (Antiguamente en Israel cualquiera que iba a consultar a Dios, decía así: Veníd y vamos hasta el vidente; porque el que ahora se llama profeta, antiguamente era llamado, vidente.)
In former times it was custom in Israel, that when a man went to inquire of God, he said thus, Come, and let us go as far as the seer; for the Prophet of the present day was in former times called a Seer.
10 Dijo pues Saul a su criado: Bien dices: ea pues vamos. Y fueron a la ciudad, donde estaba el varón de Dios:
Then said Saul to his servant, Thy word is good: come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.
11 Y cuando subían por la cuesta de la ciudad, hallaron unas mozas que salían por agua, a las cuales dijeron: ¿Está en este lugar el vidente?
As they went up the ascent to the city, they found some maidens going out to draw water; and they said unto them, Is the seer here?
12 Y ellas respondiéndoles, dijeron: Si. Héle aquí, delante de ti; dáte pues priesa, porque hoy ha venido a la ciudad; porque el pueblo tiene hoy sacrificio en el alto:
And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for this day came he to the city; because the people have a sacrifice today on the high-place;
13 Y cuando entrareis en la ciudad, luego le hallaréis, antes que suba al alto a comer; porque el pueblo no comerá hasta que él haya venido; porque él ha de bendecir el sacrificio, y después comerán los convidados. Subíd pues ahora, porque ahora le hallaréis.
As soon as ye are come into the city, ye will straightway find him, before yet he can go up to the high-place to eat; for the people will not eat until he be come, because he always blesseth the sacrifice; afterward eat those that are invited; and now go you up; for just today will ye surely find him.
14 Y ellos subieron a la ciudad, y cuando estuvieron en medio de la ciudad, he aquí Samuel que salía delante de ellos para subir al alto.
And they went up into the city. They were entering into the city, when, behold, Samuel came out toward them, to go up to the high-place.
15 Y un día antes que Saul viniese, Jehová había revelado al oído de Samuel, diciendo:
And the Lord had revealed to Samuel's ear one day before Saul's coming, saying,
16 Mañana a esta misma hora, yo enviaré a ti un varón de la tierra de Ben-jamín, al cual ungirás por príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel: y este salvará mi pueblo de mano de los Filisteos: porque yo he mirado a mi pueblo, porque su clamor ha llegado hasta mí.
About this time tomorrow will I send unto thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him as chief over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have beheld my people, because their cry is come unto me.
17 Y Samuel miró a Saul, y Jehová le dijo: He aquí este es el varón del cual te dije: Este señoreará a mi pueblo.
And when Samuel saw Saul, the Lord addressed him, Behold, the man of whom I spoke to thee, This one shall rule over my people.
18 Y llegando Saul a Samuel en medio de la puerta, díjole: Ruégote que me enseñes donde está la casa del vidente.
And Saul drew near to Samuel within the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where is the house of the seer.
19 Y Samuel respondió a Saul, y dijo: Yo soy el vidente: sube delante de mí al alto, y coméd hoy conmigo; y por la mañana te despacharé, y te descubriré todo lo que está en tu corazón.
And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the seer: go up before me unto the high-place, and ye shall eat with me today; and I will let thee go in the morning, and all that is in thy heart will I tell thee.
20 Y de las asnas que se te perdieron hoy ha tres días, pierde cuidado de ellas, porque ya son halladas. ¿Mas cuyo es todo el deseo de Israel, sino tuyo, y de toda la casa de tu padre?
And as for thy asses that were lost unto thee this day three days ago, do not set thy heart on them; for they have been found. And to whom belongeth all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not to thee, and to all thy father's house?
21 Y Saul respondió y dijo: ¿No soy yo hijo de Jemini, de las más pequeñas tribus de Israel? ¿Y mi familia la más pequeña de todas las familias de la tribu de Ben-jamín? ¿Pues, por qué me has dicho cosa semejante?
And Saul answered and said, Am not I a son of Benjamin, of one of the smallest tribes of Israel? and [is not] my family the least of all the families of the tribes of Benjamin? wherefore then hast thou spoken to me such thing?
22 Y trabando Samuel de Saul y de su criado, metiólos al cenadero, y dióles lugar en la cabecera de los convidados, que eran como treinta varones.
And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the apartment; and he assigned them a place at the head of the invited guests, who were about thirty persons.
23 Y dijo Samuel al cocinero: Da acá la porción que te dí, la cual te dije que guardases aparte.
And Samuel said unto the cook, Hand here the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Put it away by thee.
24 Y el cocinero alzó una espalda con lo que estaba sobre ella, y púsola delante de Saul. Y Samuel dijo: He aquí lo que ha quedado, pon delante de ti, y come: porque de industria se guardó para ti, cuando dije: Yo he convidado al pueblo. Y Saul comió aquel día con Samuel.
And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was on it, and set it before Saul; and he said, Behold what is left! set it before thee, and eat; for unto this time hath it been kept from thee, since I said, I have invited the people. And Saul ate with Samuel on that day.
25 Y cuando hubieron descendido del alto a la ciudad, él habló con Saul sobre la techumbre.
And they went down from the high-place into the city, and he spoke with Saul upon the roof.
26 Y otro día madrugaron como al salir del alba, y Samuel llamó a Saul sobre la techumbre, y dijo: Levántate, para que te despache. Y Saul se levantó: y salieron fuera ambos, él y Samuel.
And they got up early; and it came to pass when the morning-dawn arose, that Samuel called Saul to the roof, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both of them, he and Samuel, into the street.
27 Y descendiendo ellos al cabo de la ciudad, dijo Samuel a Saul: Di al mozo que vaya delante. Y el mozo pasó delante. Y tú espera un poco para que yo te declare palabra de Dios.
As they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Say to the servant that he pass on before us, —and he passed on, —but thou remain standing a while, and I will let thee hear the word of God.
