1 Samuel 15
1 Y Samuel dijo a Saul: Jehová me envió a que te ungiese por rey sobre su pueblo Israel: oye pues la voz de las palabras de Jehová.
And Samuel said unto Saul: 'The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over His people, over Israel; now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.
2 Así dijo Jehová de los ejércitos: Acuérdome de lo que hizo Amalec a Israel: que se le opuso en el camino, cuando subía de Egipto. Vé, pues, e hiere a Amalec,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts: I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.
3 Y destruiréis en él todo lo que tuviere; y no hayas piedad de él. Mata hombres y mujeres, niños y mamantes, vacas y ovejas, camellos y asnos.
Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.'
4 Y Saul juntó el pueblo, y reconociólos en Telaim, doscientos mil hombres de a pie, y diez mil varones de Judá.
And Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5 Y viniendo Saul a la ciudad de Amalec puso emboscada en el valle.
And Saul came to the city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley.
6 Y Saul dijo al Cineo: Idos, apartáos, y salíd de entre los de Amalec: porque no te destruya juntamente con él; porque tú hiciste misericordia con todos los hijos de Israel, cuando subían de Egipto. Y el Cineo se apartó de entre los de Amalec.
And Saul said unto the Kenites: 'Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for ye showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt.' So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 Y Saul hirió a Amalec desde Hevila hasta llegar a Sur que está a la frontera de Egipto.
And Saul smote the Amalekites, from Havilah as thou goest to Shur, that is in front of Egypt.
8 Y tomó vivo a Agag rey de Amalec, mas a todo el pueblo mató a filo de espada.
And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 Y Saul y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag, a lo mejor de las ovejas, y al ganado mayor, a los gruesos, y a los carneros, y finalmente a todo lo bueno, que no lo quisieron destruir: mas todo lo que era vil y flaco destruyeron.
But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, even the young of the second birth, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them; but every thing that was of no account and feeble, that they destroyed utterly.
10 Y fue palabra de Jehová a Samuel, diciendo:
Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying:
11 Pésame de haber puesto por rey a Saul; porque se ha vuelto de en pos de mí, y no ha cumplido mis palabras. Y pesó a Samuel: y clamó a Jehová toda aquella noche.
'It repenteth Me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following Me, and hath not performed My commandments.' And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.
12 Y Samuel madrugó por venir a recibir a Saul por la mañana: y fue dado aviso a Samuel, diciendo: Saul es venido al Carmelo: y, he aquí, él se ha levantado un trofeo: y que volviendo había pasado, y descendido a Galgala.
And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying: 'Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he is setting him up a monument, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.'
13 Vino pues Samuel a Saul, y Saul le dijo: Bendito seas tú de Jehová, yo he cumplido la palabra de Jehová.
And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said unto him: 'Blessed be thou of the LORD; I have performed the commandment of the LORD.'
14 Samuel entonces dijo: ¿Pues qué balido de ganados y bramido de bueyes es este que yo oigo con mis oídos?
And Samuel said: 'What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?'
15 Y Saul respondió: De Amalec los han traído: porque el pueblo perdonó a lo mejor de las ovejas, y de las vacas, para sacrificarlas a Jehová tu Dios: y los demás destruimos.
And Saul said: 'They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.'
16 Entonces Samuel dijo a Saul: Déjame declararte lo que Jehová me ha dicho esta noche. Y él le respondió: Dí.
Then Samuel said unto Saul: 'Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night.' And he said unto him: 'Say on.'
17 Y dijo Samuel: ¿Siendo tú pequeño en tus ojos, no has sido hecho cabeza a las tribus de Israel, y Jehová te ha ungido por rey sobre Israel?
And Samuel said: 'Though thou be little in thine own sight, art thou not head of the tribes of Israel? And the LORD anointed thee king over Israel;
18 Y envióte Jehová en jornada, y dijo: Vé, y destruye los pecadores de Amalec, y házles guerra hasta que los acabes.
and the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said: Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.
19 ¿Por qué pues no has oído la voz de Jehová, antes vuelto al despojo, has hecho lo malo en los ojos de Jehová?
Wherefore then didst thou not hearken to the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst that which was evil in the sight of the LORD?'
20 Y Saul respondió a Samuel: Antes he oído la voz de Jehová, y fui a la jornada donde Jehová me envió, y he traído a Agag rey de Amalec, y he destruido los Amalecitas.
And Saul said unto Samuel: 'Yea, I have hearkened to the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 Mas el pueblo tomó del despojo ovejas y vacas, las primicias del anatema, para sacrificarlas a Jehová tu Dios en Galgal.
But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.'
22 Y Samuel dijo: ¿Tiene Jehová tanto contentamiento con los holocaustos y víctimas, como con obedecer a la palabra de Jehová? Ciertamente el obedecer es mejor que los sacrificios: y el escuchar, que el sebo de los carneros.
And Samuel said: 'Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in hearkening to the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
23 Porque pecado es de adivinación la rebelión, e ídolo e idolatría, el quebrantar. Y por cuanto tú desechaste la palabra de Jehová, él también te ha desechado que no seas rey.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, He hath also rejected thee from being king.'
24 Entonces Saul dijo a Samuel: Yo he pecado, que he quebrantado el dicho de Jehová, y tus palabras: porque temí al pueblo, y consentí a la voz de ellos: perdona pues ahora mi pecado,
And Saul said unto Samuel: 'I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words; because I feared the people, and hearkened to their voice.
25 Y vuelve conmigo para que adore a Jehová.
Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD.'
26 Y Samuel respondió a Saul: No volveré contigo; porque desechaste la palabra de Jehová, y Jehová te ha desechado que no seas rey sobre Israel.
And Samuel said unto Saul: 'I will not return with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.'
27 Y volviéndose Samuel para irse, él echó mano del canto de su capa, y rompióse.
And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his robe, and it rent.
28 Entonces Samuel le dijo: Jehová ha rompido hoy de ti el reino de Israel, y lo ha dado a tu prójimo, mejor que tú.
And Samuel said unto him: 'The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.
29 Y aun el Vencedor de Israel no mentirá, ni se arrepentirá: porque no es hombre para que se arrepienta.
And also the Glory of Israel will not lie nor repent; for He is not a man, that He should repent.'
30 Y él dijo: Yo he pecado: mas ruégote que me honres delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo, y delante de Israel, y vuelve conmigo, para que adore a Jehová tu Dios.
Then he said: 'I have sinned; yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.'
31 Y volvió Samuel tras Saul, y adoró Saul a Jehová.
So Samuel returned after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.
32 Y dijo Samuel: Traédme a Agag rey de Amalec. Y Agag vino a él delicadamente. Y dijo Agag: ciertamente se acercó la amargura de la muerte.
Then said Samuel: 'Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites.' And Agag came unto him in chains. And Agag said: 'Surely the bitterness of death is at hand.'
33 Y Samuel dijo: Como tu espada hizo las mujeres sin hijos; así tu madre será sin hijo entre las mujeres. Entonces Samuel cortó en piezas a Agag delante de Jehová en Galgal.
And Samuel said: As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
34 Y Samuel se fue a Rama, y Saul subió a su casa en Gabaa de Saul.
Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeath-shaul.
35 Y nunca después vio Samuel a Saul en toda su vida: y Samuel lloraba a Saul, porque Jehová se había arrepentido de haber puesto a Saul por rey sobre Israel.
And Samuel never beheld Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul; and the LORD repented that He had made Saul king over Israel.
