1 Reyes 3
1 Y Salomón hizo parentesco con Faraón rey de Egipto, porque tomó por mujer la hija de Faraón, y trájola en la ciudad de David, entre tanto que acababa de edificar su casa, y la casa de Jehová, y los muros de Jerusalem al derredor.
And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon, and he made affinity with Pharao the king of Egypt: for he took his daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.
2 Hasta entonces el pueblo sacrificaba en los altos; porque aun no había casa edificada al nombre de Jehová hasta aquellos tiempos.
But yet the people sacrificed in the high places: far there was no temple built to the name of the Lord until that day.
3 Mas Salomón amó a Jehová andando en la institución de su padre David, solamente sacrificaba, y quemaba olores en altos.
And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the precepts of David his father, only he sacrificed in the high places: and burnt incense.
4 E iba el rey a Gabaón, porque aquel era el alto principal, y sacrificaba allí: mil holocaustos sacrificaba Salomón sobre aquel altar.
He went therefore to Gabaon, to sacrifice there: for that was the great high place: a thousand victims for holocausts did Solomon offer upon that altar in Gabaon.
5 Y aparecióse Jehová a Salomón en Gabaón una noche en sueños, y dijo Dios: Pide lo que quisieres, que yo te dé.
And the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, saying: Ask what thou wilt that I should give thee.
6 Y Salomón dijo: Tú hiciste gran misericordia a tu siervo David mi padre, de la manera que él anduvo delante de ti con verdad, con justicia, y con rectitud de corazón para contigo: y tú le has guardado esta tu grande misericordia, que le diste un hijo que se asentase en su trono, como parece en este día.
And Solomon said: Thou hast shewn great mercy to thy servant David my father, even at, he walked before thee in truth, and justice, and an upright heart with thee: and thou hast kept thy great mercy for him, and hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7 Ahora pues, Jehová Dios mío, tú has puesto a mí tu siervo por rey en lugar de David mi padre: y yo soy mozo pequeño, que ni sé entrar, ni salir:
And now, O Lord God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a child, and know not how to go out and come in.
8 Y tu siervo está en medio de tu pueblo, al cual tú elegiste: un pueblo grande, que ni se puede contar, ni numerar por su multitud.
And thy servant is in the midst of the people which thou hast chosen, an immense people, which cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 Da pues a tu siervo corazón dócil para juzgar a tu pueblo: para entender entre lo bueno y lo malo: porque ¿quién podrá gobernar este tu pueblo tan grande?
Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, and discern between good and evil. For who shall be able to judge this people, thy people which is so numerous?
10 Y agradó delante de Adonaí, que Salomón pidiese esto.
And the word was pleasing to the Lord that Solomon had asked such a thing.
11 Y díjole Dios: Porque has demandado esto, y no pediste para ti muchos días, ni pediste para ti riquezas, ni pediste la vida de tus enemigos, mas demandaste para ti inteligencia para oír juicio:
And the Lord said to Solomon: Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life or riches, nor the lives of thy enemies, but hast asked for thyself wisdom to discern judgment,
12 He aquí, yo lo he hecho conforme a tus palabras: he aquí que yo te he dado corazón sabio y entendido tanto, que no haya habido antes de ti otro como tú, ni después de ti se levante otro como tú.
Behold I have done for thee according to thy words, and have given thee a wise and understanding heart, insomuch that there hath been no one like thee before thee, nor shall arise after thee.
13 Y aun también las cosas que no pediste, te he dado: riquezas y gloria, que entre los reyes ninguno haya como tú en todos tus días.
Yea and the things also which thou didst not ask, I have given thee: to wit riches and glory, as that no one hath been like thee among the kings in all days heretofore.
14 Y si anduvieres en mis caminos, guardando mis estatutos y mis mandamientos, como tu padre David anduvo, yo alargaré tus días.
And if thou wilt walk in my ways, and Beep my precepts, and my commandments, as thy father walked, I will lengthen thy days.
15 Y como Salomón despertó, vio que era sueño: y vino a Jerusalem, y presentóse delante del arca del concierto de Jehová, y sacrificó holocaustos, e hizo pacíficos: e hizo banquete a todos sus siervos.
And Solomon awaked, and perceived that it was a dream: and when he was come to Jerusalem, he stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered holocausts, and sacrificed victims of peace offerings, and made a great feast for all his servants.
16 En aquella sazón vinieron dos mujeres rameras al rey, y presentáronse delante de él.
Then there came two women that were harlots, to the king, and stood before him:
17 Y dijo la una mujer: ¡Ay! señor mío, yo y esta mujer morábamos en una misma casa: y yo parí en casa con ella.
And one of them said: I beseech thee, my lord, I and this woman dwelt in one house, and I was delivered of a child with her in the chamber.
18 Y aconteció, que al tercero día después que yo parí, esta parió también: y morábamos nosotras ambas, que ninguno de fuera estaba en casa, sino nosotras dos en una casa.
And the third day, after that I was delivered, she also was delivered, and we were together, and no other person with us in the house, only we two.
19 Y una noche el hijo de esta mujer murió, porque ella se acostó sobre él.
And this woman’s child died in the night: for in her sleep she overlaid him.
20 Y esta se levantó a media noche, y tomóme mi hijo de junto a mí, estando yo tu sierva durmiendo, y púsole a su lado, y púsome a mi lado su hijo muerto.
And rising in the dead time of the night, she took my child from my side, while I thy handmaid was asleep, and laid it in her bosom: and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21 Y como yo me levanté por la mañana para dar el pecho a mi hijo, he aquí que estaba muerto. Y yo le miré por la mañana, y, he aquí que no era mi hijo, que yo había parido.
And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold it was dead: but considering him more diligently when it was clear day, I found that it was not mine which I bore.
22 Entonces la otra mujer dijo: No: mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra volvió a decir: No: tu hijo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive. Y de esta manera hablaban delante del rey.
And the other woman answered: It is not so as thou sayest, but thy child is dead, and mine is alive. On the contrary she said: Thou liest: for my child liveth, and thy child is dead. And in this manner they strove before the king.
23 El rey entonces dijo: Esta dice: Mi hijo es el que vive, y tu hijo es el muerto. Y la otra dice: No, mas el tuyo es el muerto, y mi hijo es el que vive.
Then said the king: The one saith, My child is alive, and thy child is dead. And the other answereth: Nay, but thy child is dead, and mine liveth.
24 Entonces dijo el rey: Traédme una espada: y trajeron al rey una espada.
The king therefore said: Bring me a sword. And when they had brought a sword before the king,
25 Y el rey dijo: Partíd por medio el niño vivo, y dad la mitad a la una, y la otra mitad a la otra.
Divide, said he, the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26 Entonces aquella mujer cuyo era el hijo vivo, dijo al rey (porque sus entrañas se le encendieron por su hijo, y dijo): ¡Ay! señor mío, dad a esta el niño vivo, no le matéis. Y la otra dijo: Ni a mí, ni a ti, sino partídle.
But the woman whose child was alive, said to the king, (for her bowels were moved upon her child, ) I beseech thee, my lord, give her the child alive, and do not kill it. But the other said: Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
27 Entonces el rey respondió, y dijo: Dad a esta el hijo vivo, y no le matéis: ella es su madre.
The king answered, and said: Give the living child to this woman, and let it not be killed, for she is the mother thereof.
28 Y todo Israel oyó aquel juicio, que había juzgado el rey, y hubieron temor del rey, porque vieron que había en él sabiduría de Dios para juzgar.
And all Israel heard the judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, seeing that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.
