1 Reyes 20
1 Entonces Ben-adad rey de Siria juntó todo su ejército, y con él treinta y dos reyes con caballos y carros; y subió, y puso cerco a Samaria, y la combatia.
And Ben-hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together. And there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots. And he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
2 Y envió mensajeros a Acab rey de Israel a la ciudad, diciendo:
And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, Thus says Ben-hadad,
3 Así ha dicho Ben-adad: Tu plata y tu oro es mío, y tus mujeres, y tus hijos hermosos son míos.
Thy silver and thy gold is mine, thy wives also and thy sons, even the best, are mine.
4 Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Como tú lo dices rey señor mío, yo soy tuyo, y todo lo que tengo.
And the king of Israel answered and said, It is according to thy saying, my lord, O king, I am thine, and all that I have.
5 Y volviendo los mensajeros otra vez, dijeron: Así dijo Ben-adad: Envío yo a ti, diciendo: Tu plata y tu oro, y tus mujeres, y tus hijos me darás; y mañana a estas horas,
And the messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Ben-hadad, saying, I indeed sent to thee, saying, Thou shall deliver to me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy sons.
6 Yo enviaré a ti mis siervos, los cuales escudriñarán tu casa, y las casas de tus siervos, y tomarán con sus manos, y llevarán todo lo precioso que tuvieres.
But I will send my servants to thee tomorrow about this time, and they shall search thy house, and the houses of thy servants. And it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in thine eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
7 Entonces el rey de Israel llamó a todos los ancianos de la tierra, y díjoles: Entendéd, y ved ahora, como este no busca sino mal; porque ha enviado a mi por mis mujeres y mis hijos, y por mi plata y por mi oro; y yo no se lo he negado.
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Mark, I pray you, and see how this man seeks mischief, for he sent to me for my wives, and for my sons, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I did not deny him.
8 Y todos los ancianos y todo el pueblo le respondieron: No le oigas, ni hagas lo que pide.
And all the elders and all the people said to him, Do thou not hearken, nor consent.
9 Entonces él respondió a los embajadores de Ben-adad: Decíd al rey mi señor: Todo lo que mandaste a tu siervo al principio, haré: mas esto, no lo puedo hacer. Y los embajadores fueron, y diéronle la respuesta.
Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou sent for to thy servant at the first I will do, but this thing I may not do. And the messengers departed, and brought him word again.
10 Y Ben-adad tornó a enviar a él, diciendo: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, que el polvo de Samaria no bastará a los puños de todo el pueblo que me sigue.
And Ben-hadad sent to him, and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
11 Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo: Decídle, que no se alabe el que se ciñe, como el que ya se desciñe.
And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him who girds on his armor boast himself as he who puts it off.
12 Y como el oyó esta palabra, estando bebiendo con los reyes en las tiendas, dijo a sus siervos: Ponéd. Y ellos pusieron contra la ciudad.
And it came to pass, when Ben-hadad heard this message as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves in array. And they set themselves in array against the city.
13 Y, he aquí, un profeta vino a Acab rey de Israel, y le dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: ¿Has visto esta tan grande multitud? He aquí, yo te la entregaré hoy en tu mano, para que conozcas que yo soy Jehová.
And, behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus says Jehovah, Have thou seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into thy hand this day, and thou shall know that I am Jehovah.
14 Y respondió Acab: ¿Por mano de quién? Y él dijo: Así dijo Jehová: Por mano de los criados de los príncipes de las provincias. Y él tornó a decir: ¿Quién comenzará la batalla? Y él respondió: Tú.
And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus says Jehovah, By the young men of the rulers of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he answered, Thou.
15 Entonces él reconoció los criados de los príncipes de las provincias, los cuales fueron doscientos y treinta y dos. Luego reconoció todo el pueblo, todos los hijos de Israel, que fueron siete mil.
Then he mustered the young men of the rulers of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. And after them he mustered all the people, even all the sons of Israel, being seven thousand.
16 Y salieron a mediodía: y Ben-adad estaba bebiendo, borracho en las tiendas, él y los reyes: treinta y dos reyes, que habían venido en su ayuda.
And they went out at noon. But Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.
17 Y los criados de los príncipes de las provincias salieron los primeros. Y Ben-adad había enviado quien le dio aviso, diciendo: Varones han salido de Samaria.
And the young men of the rulers of the provinces went out first. And Ben-hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out from Samaria.
18 El entonces dijo: Si han salido por paz, tomádlos vivos: y si han salido para pelear tomádlos vivos.
And he said, Whether they come out for peace, take them alive, or whether they come out for war, take them alive.
19 Y los criados de los príncipes de las provincias salieron de la ciudad, y después de ellos el ejército.
So these went out of the city, the young men of the rulers of the provinces, and the army which followed them.
20 E hirió cada uno al que venía contra sí; y los Siros huyeron, siguiéndolos los de Israel, Y el rey de Siria Ben-adad se escapó sobre un caballo, y la gente de a caballo.
And they killed everyone his man. And the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. And Ben-hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.
21 Y salió el rey de Israel, e hirió la gente de a caballo y los carros: y deshizo los Siros con grande estrago.
And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.
22 Y llegándose el profeta al rey de Israel, díjole: Vé, esfuérzate: sabe y mira lo que has de hacer, porque pasado el año el rey de Siria ha de venir contra ti.
And the prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen thyself. And mark, and see what thou do, for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.
23 Y los siervos del rey de Siria le dijeron: Sus dioses son dioses de los montes, por eso nos han vencido: mas si peleáremos con ellos en campaña, verse ha si no los venciéremos.
And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, Their god is a god of the hills, therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
24 Haz pues así: saca los reyes cada uno de su lugar, y pon capitanes en lugar de ellos.
And do this thing: Take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.
25 Y tú hazte otro ejército cual fue el ejército que perdiste: caballos por caballos, y carros por carros; y pelearemos con ellos en campo raso, y veremos si no los vencemos. Y él los oyó, e hízolo así.
And number thee an army, like the army that thou have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. And we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened to their voice, and did so.
26 Pasado el año, Ben-adad reconoció los Siros, y vino en Afec a pelear contra Israel.
And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.
27 Y los hijos de Israel fueron también reconocidos, y tomando viandas fuéronles al encuentro, y asentaron campo los hijos de Israel delante de ellos, como dos rebañuelos de cabras: y los Siros henchían la tierra.
And the sons of Israel were mustered, and were supported, and went against them. And the sons of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of kids, but the Syrians filled the country.
28 (Y llegándose el varón de Dios al rey de Israel hablóle, diciendo: Así dijo Jehová: Por cuanto los Siros han dicho: Jehová es Dios de los montes, no Dios de los valles, yo entregaré toda esta grande multitud en tu mano: para que conozcáis que yo soy Jehová.)
And a man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, Thus says Jehovah, Because the Syrians have said, Jehovah is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys, therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into thy hand, and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.
29 Siete días tuvieron asentado campo los unos delante de los otros, y al séptimo día se dio la batalla: y mataron los hijos de Israel de los Siros en un día cien mil hombres de a pie.
And they encamped one opposite the other seven days. And so it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined. And the sons of Israel killed of the Syrians a hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30 Los demás huyeron a Afec a la ciudad: y el muro cayó sobre veinte y siete mil hombres, que habían quedado: y Ben-adad vino huyendo a la ciudad, y escondíase de cámara en cámara.
But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city, and the wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men who were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
31 Entonces sus siervos le dijeron: He aquí, hemos oído de los reyes de la casa de Israel, que son clementes reyes: pongamos pues ahora sacos en nuestros lomos, y sogas en nuestras cabezas, y salgamos al rey de Israel: por ventura te dará la vida.
And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Let us, we pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Perhaps he will save thy life.
32 Y ciñeron sus lomos de sacos, y sogas a sus cabezas, y vinieron al rey de Israel, y dijéronle: Tu siervo Ben-adad dice: Ruégote que me des la vida. Y él respondió: Si él aun vive, mi hermano es.
So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad says, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? He is my brother.
33 Esto tomaron aquellos varones por buen agüero, y tomaron presto esta palabra de su boca, y dijeron: Ben-adad tu hermano. Y él dijo: Id, y traédmele. Y Ben-adad salió a él, y él le hizo subir en un carro:
Now the men observed diligently whether anything would come from him. And they quickly caught it, and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him, and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
34 Y él le dijo: Las ciudades que mi padre tomo al tuyo, yo las restituiré; y haz plazas en Damasco para ti, como mi padre las hizo en Samaria: y yo me partiré de ti confederado. Y él hizo con él alianza, y envióle.
And Ben-hadad said to him, The cities which my father took from thy father I will restore, and thou shall make streets for thee in Damascus as my father made in Samaria. And I, said Ahab, will let thee go with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
35 Entonces un varón de los hijos de los profetas dijo a su compañero por palabra de Dios: Hiéreme ahora. Y él otro varón no le quiso herir.
And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said by the word of Jehovah to his fellow, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.
36 Y él le dijo: Por cuanto no has obedecido a la palabra de Jehová, he aquí, en apartándote de mí un león te herirá. Y como se apartó de él, topóle un león, y le hirió.
Then said he to him, Because thou have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah, behold, as soon as thou are departed from me, a lion shall kill thee. And as soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him.
37 Y él topóse con otro varón, y díjole: Hiéreme ahora. Y el otro hombre le hirió, y dióle una cuchillada.
Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, smiting and wounding him.
38 Y se fue el profeta, y púsose delante del rey en el camino, y disfrazóse poniéndose sobre los ojos un velo.
So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.
39 Y como el rey pasaba, él dio voces al rey, y dijo: Tu siervo salió entre el escuadrón, y, he aquí, apartándose uno, trájome a otro, diciendo: Guarda a este hombre; y si él faltare faltando, tu vida será por la suya, o pagarás un talento de plata.
And as the king passed by, he cried out to the king, and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle, and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, Keep this man. If by any means he is missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shall pay a talent of silver.
40 Y como tu siervo, estaba ocupado a una parte y a otra, él desapareció. Entonces el rey de Israel le dijo: Esa será tu sentencia: tú la pronunciaste.
And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So shall thy judgment be, thyself have decided it.
41 Entonces él quitó de presto el velo de sobre sus ojos, y el rey de Israel conoció que era de los profetas.
And he hastened, and took the headband away from his eyes, and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
42 Y él le dijo: Así dijo Jehová: Por cuanto soltaste de la mano el varón de mi anatema, tu vida será por la suya, y tu pueblo por el suyo.
And he said to him, Thus says Jehovah, Because thou have let go out of thy hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore thy life shall go for his life, and thy people for his people.
43 Y el rey de Israel se fue a su casa triste y enojado: y vino a Samaria.
And the king of Israel went to his house heavy and displeased, and came to Samaria.
