Salmos 78
1 Escucha, pueblo mío, mi instrucción. Inclina tus oídos a las palabras de mi boca.
A maschil of Asaph. Hear my teaching, my people, listen to the words of my mouth.
2 Abriré mi boca en proverbio. Declararé dichos de antaño de difícil comprensión,
I will open my mouth in parables; I will sing about hidden things about the past.
3 Los cuales oímos y conocimos. Nos los relataron nuestros antepasados.
These are things that we have heard and learned, things that our ancestors have told us.
4 No los encubriremos a sus hijos. Contaremos a la generación venidera las alabanzas de Yavé, Y su poder y las maravillosas obras que hizo.
We will not keep them from their descendants. We will tell the next generation about the praiseworthy deeds of Yahweh, his strength, and the wonders that he has done.
5 Él estableció testimonio en Jacob, Y estableció Ley en Israel, La cual mandó a nuestros antepasados Que la enseñaran a sus hijos,
For he established covenant decrees in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel. He commanded our ancestors that they were to teach them to their children.
6 A fin de que la generación venidera [la] supiera, Los hijos que iban a nacer, Con el fin de que se levantaran y la dijeran a sus hijos,
He commanded this so that the generation to come might know his decrees, the children not yet born, who should tell them in turn to their own children.
7 Para que en ʼElohim depositen su confianza, Y no olviden las obras de ʼEL, Sino que guarden sus Mandamientos,
Then they would place their hope in God and not forget his deeds but keep his commandments.
8 Y no sean como sus antepasados, Generación terca y rebelde, Generación que no preparó su corazón, Y su espíritu no fue fiel a ʼEL.
Then they would not be like their ancestors, who were a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose hearts were not right, and whose spirits were not committed and faithful to God.
9 Los hijos de Efraín, arqueros equipados, Dieron la espalda en el día de la batalla.
The Ephraimites were armed with bows, but they turned back on the day of battle.
10 No guardaron el Pacto de ʼElohim Y rehusaron andar en su Ley.
They did not keep the covenant with God, and they refused to obey his law.
11 Olvidaron sus obras. Él hizo maravillas ante sus antepasados en la tierra de Egipto.
They forgot his deeds, the wonderful things that he had shown them.
12 Delante de sus antepasados realizó maravillas en la tierra de Egipto. En el campo de Zoán
They forgot the marvelous things he did in the sight of their ancestors in the land of Egypt, in the land of Zoan.
13 Dividió el mar y los pasó. Detuvo las aguas como en una pila.
He divided the sea and led them across it; he made the waters to stand like walls.
14 De día los guiaba con nube, Con resplandor de fuego toda la noche.
In the daytime he led them with a cloud and all the night with the light of fire.
15 Hendió las peñas del desierto Y les dio a beber raudales sin medida.
He split the rocks in the wilderness, and he gave them water abundantly, enough to fill the depths of the sea.
16 Sacó arroyos de la peña Y las aguas corrieron como ríos.
He made streams flow out of the rock and made the water flow like rivers.
17 Pero ellos aún continuaron pecando contra Él. Se rebelaron contra ʼElyón en el desierto
Yet they continued to sin against him, rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness.
18 Y en sus corazones tentaron a ʼEL. Pidieron comida según su deseo.
They challenged God in their hearts by asking for food to satisfy their appetites.
19 Hablaron contra ʼElohim: ¿Puede ʼEL preparar una mesa en el desierto?
They spoke against God; they said, “Can God really lay out a table for us in the wilderness?
20 Sí, Él golpeó la roca Y brotaron aguas y se desbordaron torrentes. ¿Puede Él dar también pan? ¿Proveerá carne para su pueblo?
See, when he struck the rock, waters gushed out and streams overflowed. But can he give bread also? Will he provide meat for his people?”
21 Por tanto, oyó Yavé y se indignó. Un fuego se encendió contra Jacob, Y una ira subió contra Israel,
When Yahweh heard this, he was angry; so his fire burned against Jacob, and his anger attacked Israel,
22 Por cuanto no creyeron en ʼElohim, Ni confiaron en su salvación.
because they did not believe in God and did not trust in his salvation.
23 Sin embargo, mandó a las nubes desde arriba, Y abrió las puertas del cielo.
Yet he commanded the skies above and opened the doors of the sky.
24 Hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer Y les dio alimento del cielo.
He rained down manna for them to eat, and gave them the grain from heaven.
25 Pan de ángeles comió el hombre. Les envió comida en abundancia.
People ate the bread of angels. He sent them food in abundance.
26 Sopló en el cielo el viento del este Y con su poder atrajo el viento del sur.
He caused the east wind to blow in the sky, and by his power he guided the south wind.
27 Esparció sobre ellos carne como polvo, Criaturas aladas como la arena de los mares.
He rained down meat on them like dust, birds as numerous as the sands of the sea.
28 Las soltó en medio del campamento alrededor de sus tiendas.
They fell in the middle of their camp, all around their tents.
29 Comieron y se hartaron, Y les cumplió su deseo.
So they ate and were full. He gave them what they craved.
30 Antes que ellos saciaran su apetito, Cuando la comida estaba en sus bocas,
But they had not yet filled up; their food was still in their mouths.
31 Surgió contra ellos la ira divina Que mató a algunos de los fornidos de ellos Y sometió a los jóvenes escogidos de Israel.
Then God's anger attacked them and killed the strongest of them. He brought down the young men of Israel.
32 A pesar de eso, siguieron en pecado Y no dieron crédito a sus maravillas.
Despite this, they continued to sin and did not believe his wonderful deeds.
33 Por tanto consumió sus días en vanidad, Y sus años en temor.
Therefore God cut short their days; their years were filled with terror.
34 Cuando los hería de muerte, Lo buscaban. Se arrepentían y con diligencia lo buscaban.
Whenever God afflicted them, they would start to seek him, and they would return and look earnestly for him.
35 Se acordaban que ʼElohim era su Roca, Y ʼEL, ʼElyón, su Redentor.
They would call to mind that God was their rock and that the Most High God was their rescuer.
36 Lo lisonjeaban con su boca Y le mentían con su lengua.
But they would flatter him with their mouth and lie to him with their words.
37 Pues sus corazones no eran firmes hacia Él, Ni eran fieles a su Pacto.
For their hearts were not firmly fixed on him, and they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Pero Él por misericordia perdonó su iniquidad Y no los destruyó. Con frecuencia contuvo su ira Y no despertó todo su enojo.
Yet he, being merciful, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them. Yes, many times he held back his anger and did not stir up all his wrath.
39 Recordó que no eran sino carne, Un soplo que pasa y no regresa.
He called to mind that they were made of flesh, a wind that passes away and does not return.
40 ¡Cuán a menudo se rebelaron contra Él en el desierto Y lo contristaron en terreno no habitado!
How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and grieved him in the barren regions!
41 Vez tras vez tentaron a ʼEL. Irritaron al Santo de Israel.
Again and again they challenged God and offended the Holy One of Israel.
42 No se acordaron de su poder, Del día cuando los redimió del adversario:
They did not think about his power, how he had rescued them from the enemy
43 Cuando realizó en Egipto sus señales, Y sus maravillas en la tierra de Zoán.
when he performed his terrifying signs in Egypt and his wonders in the region of Zoan.
44 Cuando convirtió sus ríos en sangre, Y ellos no pudieron beber de sus manantiales.
He turned the Egyptians' rivers to blood so that they could not drink from their streams.
45 Cuando envió entre ellos enjambres de moscas que los devoraban Y ranas que los destruían.
He sent swarms of flies that devoured them and frogs that overran their land.
46 Cuando entregó a los saltamontes sus cosechas Y el fruto de su trabajo a la langosta.
He gave their crops to the grasshopper and their labor to the locust.
47 Él destruyó sus viñas con granizo Y sus sicómoros con escarcha.
He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore trees with more hail.
48 Él entregó al granizo sus vacadas Y a los rayos sus ganados.
He rained hail on their cattle and hurled lightning bolts at their livestock.
49 Envió sobre ellos su ardiente ira, Enojo, indignación y angustia, Una banda de mensajeros destructores.
The fierceness of his anger lashed out against them. He sent wrath, fury, and trouble like agents who bring disaster.
50 Él dispuso un camino para su ira Y no libró sus vidas de la muerte. Entregó sus vidas a la pestilencia
He leveled a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague.
51 E hirió a todos los primogénitos de Egipto, Las primicias de su virilidad en las tiendas de Cam.
He killed all the firstborn in Egypt, the firstborn of their strength in the tents of Ham.
52 Pero dirigió a su pueblo como ovejas, Y como rebaño los guió por el desierto.
He led his own people out like sheep and guided them through the wilderness like a flock.
53 Los condujo con seguridad para que no temieran, Pero el mar cubrió a sus enemigos.
He led them secure and unafraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 Los llevó hasta la frontera de su Tierra Santa, Al país montañoso que adquirió su mano derecha.
Then he brought them to the border of his holy land, to this mountain that his right hand acquired.
55 Echó a las naciones de delante de ellos. Con medida [les] repartió las tierras de ellos en heredad, E hizo que las tribus de Israel vivieran en sus tiendas.
He drove out the nations from before them and assigned them their inheritance. He settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.
56 Pero ellos tentaron y provocaron a ʼElyón ʼElohim Y no guardaron sus Testimonios.
Yet they challenged and defied the Most High God and did not keep his solemn commands.
57 Regresaron y actuaron deslealmente como sus antepasados. Tal como sus antepasados, fueron desleales. Se desviaron como arco torcido.
They were unfaithful and acted treacherously like their fathers; they were as undependable as a faulty bow.
58 Lo provocaron con sus lugares altos Y despertaron su celo con sus imágenes de talla.
For they made him angry with their high places and provoked him to jealous anger with their idols.
59 Cuando ʼElohim oyó, se indignó Y aborreció a Israel en gran manera.
When God heard this, he was angry and completely rejected Israel.
60 Por lo cual abandonó el Tabernáculo de Silo, El Tabernáculo que estableció entre los hombres.
He abandoned the sanctuary of Shiloh, the tent where he had lived among people.
61 Entregó su poder a la cautividad Y su resplandor en mano del adversario.
He allowed his strength to be captured and gave his glory into the enemy's hand.
62 Entregó también su pueblo a la espada Y se indignó contra su heredad.
He handed his people over to the sword, and he was angry with his heritage.
63 El fuego devoró a sus jóvenes, Y sus doncellas no tuvieron cantos nupciales.
Fire devoured their young men, and their young women had no wedding songs.
64 Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada, Y sus viudas no hicieron lamentación.
Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows could not weep.
65 Pero entonces, como el que duerme, Como un valiente que se recupera del vino Despertó ʼAdonay
Then the Lord awakened as one from sleep, like a warrior who shouts because of wine.
66 E hirió a sus adversarios por detrás. Puso sobre ellos afrenta perpetua.
He drove his adversaries back; he put them to everlasting shame.
67 Desechó la tienda de José Y no eligió a la tribu de Efraín,
He rejected the tent of Joseph, and he did not chose the tribe of Ephraim.
68 Sino escogió a la tribu de Judá Y la Montaña de Sion, que Él amó.
He chose the tribe of Judah and Mount Zion that he loved.
69 Construyó en las alturas su Santuario Como la tierra que fundó para siempre.
He built his sanctuary like the heavens, like the earth that he has established forever.
70 También escogió a David, su esclavo, Y lo tomó de los rebaños.
He chose David, his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds.
71 Lo trajo de detrás de las ovejas que tenían crías Para que apacentara a Jacob su pueblo Y a Israel su heredad.
He took him from following the ewes with their young, and he brought him to be shepherd of Jacob, his people, and of Israel, his heritage.
72 Los pastoreó según la integridad de su corazón, Y los guió con la destreza de sus manos.
David shepherded them with the integrity of his heart, and he guided them with the skill of his hands.
