Proverbios 6
1 Hijo mío, si saliste fiador por tu prójimo, Si empeñaste tu palabra a un extraño,
My son! if thou hast been surety for thy friend, Hast stricken for a stranger thy hand,
2 Si te enredaste con tus palabras, Y quedaste atrapado con los dichos de tu boca,
Hast been snared with sayings of thy mouth, Hast been captured with sayings of thy mouth,
3 Haz esto ahora, hijo mío, y líbrate. Ya que caíste en las manos de tu prójimo: Vé, humíllate e importuna a tu prójimo.
Do this now, my son, and be delivered, For thou hast come into the hand of thy friend. Go, trample on thyself, and strengthen thy friend,
4 No concedas sueño a tus ojos, Ni adormecimiento a tus párpados.
Give not sleep to thine eyes, And slumber to thine eyelids,
5 Líbrate como gacela de la mano [del cazador], Como un ave de la trampa.
Be delivered as a roe from the hand, And as a bird from the hand of a fowler.
6 Mira a la hormiga, oh perezoso, Observa sus caminos y sé sabio,
Go unto the ant, O slothful one, See her ways and be wise;
7 La cual, sin tener jefe, Ni gobernador, ni soberano,
Which hath not captain, overseer, and ruler,
8 Prepara en el verano su comida. En el tiempo de la cosecha guarda su sustento.
She doth prepare in summer her bread, She hath gathered in harvest her food.
9 ¿Hasta cuándo estarás acostado, oh perezoso? ¿Cuándo te levantarás de tu sueño?
Till when, O slothful one, dost thou lie? When dost thou arise from thy sleep?
10 Un rato duermes, otro dormitas, Un rato cruzas los brazos y descansas.
A little sleep, a little slumber, A little clasping of the hands to rest,
11 Te llega la miseria como un vagabundo, Y tu necesidad como un hombre armado.
And thy poverty hath come as a traveller, And thy want as an armed man.
12 Hombre depravado es el hombre inicuo, Que anda en la perversidad de su boca,
A man of worthlessness, a man of iniquity, Walking [with] perverseness of mouth,
13 Guiña con un ojo, menea los pies, Hace señas con los dedos.
Winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, Directing with his fingers,
14 En su corazón hay perversidades, Maquina maldades, y continuamente busca rencillas.
Frowardness [is] in his heart, devising evil at all times, Contentions he sendeth forth.
15 Por tanto, su calamidad vendrá de repente. Súbitamente será quebrantado y no habrá remedio.
Therefore suddenly cometh his calamity, Instantly he is broken — and no healing.
16 Seis [cosas] aborrece Yavé, Y aun siete repugna su alma:
These six hath Jehovah hated, Yea, seven [are] abominations to His soul.
17 Ojos altivos, boca mentirosa, Manos que derraman sangre inocente,
Eyes high — tongues false — And hands shedding innocent blood —
18 Corazón que maquina planes perversos, Pies presurosos para correr al mal,
A heart devising thoughts of vanity — Feet hasting to run to evil —
19 Testigo falso que habla mentiras, Y el que enciende discordias entre sus hermanos.
A false witness [who] doth breathe out lies — And one sending forth contentions between brethren.
20 Hijo mío, guarda el mandamiento de tu padre, Y no abandones la instrucción de tu madre.
Keep, my son, the command of thy father, And leave not the law of thy mother.
21 Átalos continuamente a tu corazón, Enlázalos en torno a tu cuello.
Bind them on thy heart continually, Tie them on thy neck.
22 Cuando camines, te guiarán. Cuando duermas, te protegerán. Hablarán contigo al despertar.
In thy going up and down, it leadeth thee, In thy lying down, it watcheth over thee, And thou hast awaked — it talketh [with] thee.
23 Porque el mandamiento es lámpara, La enseñanza es luz Y camino de vida las reprensiones de la instrucción.
For a lamp [is] the command, And the law a light, And a way of life [are] reproofs of instruction,
24 Te guardarán de la mala mujer, De la blandura de la boca de la mujer extraña.
To preserve thee from an evil woman, From the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25 No codicies en tu corazón su hermosura, Ni dejes que te cautive con sus párpados.
Desire not her beauty in thy heart, And let her not take thee with her eyelids.
26 Porque si la prostituta busca una hogaza de pan, La adúltera caza una vida preciosa.
For a harlot consumeth unto a cake of bread, And an adulteress the precious soul hunteth.
27 ¿Tomará el hombre fuego en su seno, Sin que ardan sus ropas?
Doth a man take fire into his bosom, And are his garments not burnt?
28 ¿Andará un hombre sobre brasas, Sin que se quemen sus pies?
Doth a man walk on the hot coals, And are his feet not scorched?
29 Así sucederá con el que se une a la mujer de su prójimo. Ninguno que la toque quedará impune.
So [is] he who hath gone in unto the wife of his neighbour, None who doth touch her is innocent.
30 ¿No desprecian al ladrón aunque robe Para llenar su estómago cuando tiene hambre?
They do not despise the thief, When he stealeth to fill his soul when he is hungry,
31 Si es sorprendido, tiene que pagar siete veces Y entregar todo lo que tiene en su casa.
And being found he repayeth sevenfold, All the substance of his house he giveth.
32 Pues el adúltero es hombre sin cordura, Destructor de sí mismo es el que lo hace.
He who committeth adultery [with] a woman lacketh heart, He is destroying his soul who doth it.
33 Heridas y deshonra hallará, Y su afrenta no será borrada.
A stroke and shame he doth find, And his reproach is not wiped away,
34 Porque los celos son la ira del hombre. En el día de la venganza no perdonará,
For jealousy [is] the fury of a man, And he doth not spare in a day of vengeance.
35 Ni aceptará algún rescate. No se aplacará aunque ofrezcas muchos regalos.
He accepteth not the appearance of any atonement, Yea, he doth not consent, Though thou dost multiply bribes!
