Proverbios 30
1 Palabras de Agur, hijo de Jaqué, el de Masá. La profecía. Declaración del varón a Itiel y a Ucal.
The words of Agur the son of Jakeh; the oracle. The man saith unto Ithiel, unto Ithiel and Ucal:
2 En verdad soy el más ignorante de los hombres, Y no tengo entendimiento humano.
Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man:
3 No aprendí sabiduría, Ni comprendo la ciencia del Santo.
And I have not learned wisdom, neither have I the knowledge of the Holy One.
4 ¿Quién subió a los cielos, y descendió? ¿Quién encerró los vientos en sus puños? ¿Quién ató las aguas en un paño? ¿Quién afirmó todos los términos de la tierra? ¿Cuál es su Nombre, y el nombre de su Hijo, si sabes?
Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in his garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou knowest?
5 Toda Palabra de ʼElohim es limpia. Él es Escudo a los que en Él esperan.
Every word of God is tried: he is a shield unto them that trust in him.
6 No añadas a sus Palabras, Para que no te reprenda, Y seas hallado mentiroso.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 Dos cosas te pedí, No me las niegues mientras viva:
Two things have I asked of thee; deny me [them] not before I die:
8 Aparta de mí la vanidad y la mentira, Y no me des pobreza ni riqueza. Mantenme con el pan necesario,
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me:
9 No sea que me sacie y te niegue, o diga: ¿Quién es Yavé? O que, por ser pobre robe Y blasfeme el Nombre de mi ʼElohim.
Lest I be full, and deny [thee], and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and use profanely the name of my God.
10 No acuses al esclavo ante su ʼadón, No sea que te maldiga, y seas hallado culpable.
Slander not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be held guilty.
11 Hay quien maldice a su padre, Y no bendice a su madre.
There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12 Hay quien es puro en su propia opinión, Pero no está lavado de su impureza.
There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes; and [yet] are not washed from their filthiness.
13 Hay quien mira con ojos altivos Y párpados bien levantados por arrogancia.
There is a generation, Oh how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14 Hay quien tiene dientes como espadas Y muelas como cuchillos Para devorar a los pobres de la tierra Y a los necesitados de entre los hombres.
There is a generation whose teeth are [as] swords, and their jaw teeth [as] knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 La sanguijuela tiene dos hijas: Dame y Dame. Tres cosas hay que nunca se sacian, Aun la cuarta jamás dice: ¡Basta!
The horseleach hath two daughters, [Crying], Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, [yea], four that say not, Enough:
16 El Seol, la matriz estéril, La tierra, que no se harta de agua, Y el fuego, que nunca dice: ¡Basta! (Sheol h7585)
The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not satisfied with water; and the fire that saith not, Enough. (Sheol h7585)
17 Ojo que se burla del padre Y desprecia la obediencia a la madre, ¡Arránquenlo los cuervos del valle Y devórenlo los polluelos del buitre!
The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 Tres cosas me son ocultas, Y tampoco comprendo la cuarta:
There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
19 El rastro del águila en el aire, El rastro de la culebra sobre la peña, El rastro de la nave en el mar, Y el rastro del hombre en la doncella.
The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Así procede la mujer adúltera: Come, se limpia la boca y dice: Nada malo hice.
So is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
21 Por tres cosas se estremece la tierra, Y la cuarta no puede soportar:
For three things the earth doth tremble, and for four, [which] it cannot bear:
22 Por el esclavo, cuando llega a reinar, Por el necio, cuando se harta de pan,
For a servant when he is king; and a fool when he is filled with meat;
23 Por la mujer aborrecida, cuando se casa, Y por una esclava, cuando desplaza a su señora.
For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
24 Cuatro cosas son pequeñas en la tierra, Pero mucha más sabias que los sabios:
There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
25 Las hormigas, pueblo no fuerte, Pero preparan su sustento en el verano;
The ants are a people not strong, yet they provide their meat in the summer;
26 Los conejos, pueblo nada esforzado, Pero hacen su casa en la roca;
The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
27 Las langostas, que no tienen rey, Pero salen todas en cuadrillas;
The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
28 Las lagartijas, que se agarran con la mano, Pero están en los palacios reales.
The lizard taketh hold with her hands, yet is she in kings’ palaces,
29 Tres cosas hay de hermoso andar, Y la cuarta pasea muy bien:
There be three things which are stately in their march, yea, four which are stately in going:
30 El león, el más fuerte entre todas las bestias, Que no se vuelve atrás por nada;
The lion, which is mightiest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
31 El gallo que erguido camina, También el macho cabrío, Y un rey, cuando sus tropas están con él.
The greyhound; the he-goat also; and the king, against whom there is no rising up.
32 Si te enalteciste neciamente, O tramaste el mal, pon tu mano sobre tu boca.
If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, [lay] thine hand upon thy mouth.
33 Porque así como al batir la leche se saca mantequilla, Y al que recio se suena le sale sangre, El que provoca la ira causará contienda.
For the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
