Proverbios 26
1 No conviene la nieve en el verano Ni la lluvia en la cosecha, Ni la honra al necio.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
2 Como pájaro que aletea y golondrina que vuela, Así la maldición sin causa no se cumple.
As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, so the curse that is causeless lighteth not.
3 El látigo para el caballo, el cabestro para el asno Y la vara para la espalda del necio.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
4 No respondas al necio según su necedad, Para que no seas tú como él.
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Responde al necio como merece su necedad, Para que él no se estime sabio.
Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
6 El que envía mensaje por medio de un necio Corta sus pies y bebe violencia.
He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off [his own] feet, [and] drinketh in damage.
7 Al lisiado le cuelgan las piernas inútiles. Así es el proverbio en la boca del necio.
The legs of the lame hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 Como sujetar una piedra en la honda, Así es el que da honores al necio.
As a bag of gems in a heap of stones, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
9 Como espina que cae en la mano de un borracho, Así es el proverbio en boca de los necios.
[As] a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the month of fools.
10 Como arquero que dispara contra cualquiera, Es el que contrata a insensatos y vagabundos.
[As] an archer that woundeth all, so is he that hireth the fool and he that hireth them that pass by.
11 Como perro que vuelve a su vómito, Así el necio repite su insensatez.
As a dog that returneth to his vomit, [so is] a fool that repeateth his folly.
12 ¿Has visto a alguien sabio en su propia opinión? Más se puede esperar de un necio que de él.
Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
13 Dice el perezoso: El león está en el camino, Hay un león en la plaza.
The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
14 Como la puerta gira sobre sus bisagras, Así también el perezoso en su cama.
[As] the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the sluggard upon his bed.
15 El perezoso mete su mano en el plato, Y le repugna aun llevar la comida a su boca.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; it wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
16 El perezoso se cree más sabio Que siete hombres que responden con discreción.
The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
17 El que se mete en pleito ajeno Es como el que agarra un perro por las orejas.
He that passeth by, [and] vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, is [like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
18 Como el loco furioso que lanza dardos encendidos y flechas mortales,
As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death;
19 Así es el que engaña a su prójimo Y luego dice: Solo era una broma.
So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
20 Sin leña se apaga el fuego, Y donde no hay chismoso, cesa la contienda.
For lack of wood the fire goeth out: and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
21 El carbón para las brasas y la leña para el fuego, Y el pendenciero para encender la contienda.
[As] coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to inflame strife.
22 Las palabras del chismoso son manjares, Que bajan hasta lo más recóndito del ser.
The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
23 Como escoria de plata echada sobre un tiesto Son los labios enardecidos y el corazón perverso.
Fervent lips and a wicked heart are [like] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
24 Disimula con sus labios el que odia, Pero en su interior trama el engaño.
He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him:
25 Aunque hable amigablemente, no le creas, Porque siete repugnancias hay en su corazón.
When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart:
26 Aunque con disimulo encubra su odio, Su perversidad será descubierta en la congregación.
Though [his] hatred cover itself with guile, his wickedness shall be openly shewed before the congregation.
27 El que cave una fosa, caerá en ella, Y al que ruede una piedra, le caerá encima.
Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
28 La lengua mentirosa odia a los que aflige, Y la boca lisonjera causa ruina.
A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
