Números 25
1 Mientras Israel permanecía en Sitim, el pueblo comenzó a prostituírse con las hijas de Moab,
Now Israel stayed in Shittim; and the people defiled themselves by having sexual relations with the women of Moab,
2 las cuales invitaban al pueblo a los sacrificios a sus ʼelohim. El pueblo comió y se postró ante los ʼelohim de ellas.
and they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people ate, and bowed down to their gods.
3 Así Israel se unió a baal Peor, y la ira de Yavé se encendió contra Israel.
Israel joined himself to Baal Peor: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel.
4 Y Yavé dijo a Moisés: Detén a todos los jefes del pueblo y ahórcalos a pleno sol delante de Yavé. Y el ardor de la ira de Yavé se apartará de Israel.
Jehovah said to Moses, "Take all the chiefs of the people, and hang them up to Jehovah before the sun, that the fierce anger of Jehovah may turn away from Israel."
5 Entonces Moisés dijo a los jueces de Israel: Que cada uno mate a sus hombres que se unieron a baal Peor.
Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Everyone kill his men who have joined themselves to Baal Peor."
6 Y mientras ellos lloraban en la entrada del Tabernáculo de Reunión, ahí llegaba un varón de los hijos de Israel que llevaba una madianita a vista de Moisés y de toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel.
Look, one of the children of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
7 Cuando lo vio Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, se levantó de en medio de la congregación. Al tomar una lanza en su mano,
When Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from the midst of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand;
8 fue tras el israelita hacia el Tabernáculo y los atravesó a ambos por su vientre, al varón de Israel y a la mujer. Y en seguida se detuvo la mortandad de sobre los hijos de Israel.
and he went after the man of Israel into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her body. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9 Pero en aquella mortandad murieron 24.000.
Those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.
10 Entonces Yavé habló a Moisés:
Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
11 Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, desvió mi furor de sobre los hijos de Israel, al mostrar su celo por Mí en medio de ellos, por lo cual Yo no consumí en mi celo a [todos] los hijos de Israel.
"Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12 Por tanto, anuncia: Ciertamente Yo establezco un Pacto de paz
Therefore say, 'Look, I give to him my covenant of peace:
13 con él y su descendencia, el Pacto del sacerdocio perpetuo, porque él fue celoso por su ʼElohim e hizo sacrificio que apacigua por los hijos de Israel.
and it shall be to him, and to his descendants after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.'"
14 El nombre del israelita que fue asesinado con la madianita era Zimri, hijo de Salu, jefe de una familia de la tribu de Simeón.
Now the name of the man of Israel that was slain, who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers' house among the Simeonites.
15 El nombre de la madianita asesinada era Cozbi, hija de Zur, jefe de una tribu, padre de una familia de Madián.
The name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a fathers' house in Midian.
16 Entonces Yavé habló a Moisés:
And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the children of Israel, saying,
17 Ataquen a los madianitas y destrúyanlos,
'Harass the Midianites, and strike them;
18 pues ellos son sus enemigos por las astucias con las cuales los engañaron en el asunto de Peor y en el asunto de Cozbi, hija del jefe de Madián, hermana de ellos, que fue asesinada el día de la mortandad a causa de Peor.
for they harassed you with their tricks, with which they have deceived you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midian, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of Peor.'"
