Números 23
1 Balaam dijo al [rey] Balac: Edifícame aquí siete altares y sacrifícame aquí siete becerros y siete carneros.
And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
2 Balac hizo como Balaam habló. Y Balac y Balaam ofrecieron un buey y un carnero en cada altar.
And Balak did as Balaam had spoken. And Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.
3 Entonces Balaam dijo a Balac: Ponte junto a tu holocausto mientras yo voy. Quizás Yavé venga a encontrarse conmigo. Lo que Él me muestre te lo diré. Y se fue a una colina descubierta.
And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me, and whatever he shows me I will tell thee. And he went to a bare height.
4 ʼElohim se encontró con Balaam, y éste le dijo: Preparé los siete altares y en cada altar sacrifiqué un buey y un carnero.
And God met Balaam, and he said to him, I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.
5 Entonces Yavé puso Palabra en la boca de Balaam: Vuelve a Balac y háblale así.
And Jehovah put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and thus thou shall speak.
6 Volvió a él, y ahí estaba él en pie junto a su ofrenda quemada con todos los jefes de Moab.
And he returned to him. And, lo, he was standing by his burnt offering, he, and all the rulers of Moab.
7 Balaam tomó su parábola: De Aram me trajo Balac, Desde las montañas del oriente, el rey de Moab: ¡Ven, maldíceme a Jacob! ¡Ven, condena a Israel!
And he took up his oracle, and said, From Aram Balak has brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me, and come, defy Israel.
8 ¿Cómo puedo maldecir a quien ʼElohim no maldijo? ¿Cómo condenaré a quien Yavé no condena?
How shall I curse, whom God has not cursed? And how shall I defy, whom Jehovah has not defied?
9 Cuando lo veo desde la cumbre de las peñas Y lo contemplo desde las colinas, Ciertamente miro un pueblo que vive aparte Y no será contado entre las naciones.
For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him. Lo, it is a people that dwells alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
10 ¿Quién contará el polvo de Jacob, Y enumerará la cuarta parte de Israel? ¡Muera yo la muerte de los rectos, Y sea mi fin como el suyo!
Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
11 Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: ¿Qué me hiciste? ¡Para maldecir a mis enemigos te traje y ciertamente lo bendijiste!
And Balak said to Balaam, What have thou done to me? I took thee to curse my enemies, and, behold, thou have blessed them altogether.
12 Y él respondió: ¿No tendré el cuidado de decir lo que Yavé ponga en mi boca?
And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which Jehovah puts in my mouth?
13 Entonces Balac le dijo: Te ruego que vengas conmigo a otro lugar desde el cual los veas, aunque solo verás un extremo de ellos, y no los verás a todos. ¡Maldícemelos desde allí!
And Balak said to him, Come, I pray thee, with me to another place, from where thou may see them. Thou shall see but the outmost part of them, and shall not see them all, and curse them for me from there.
14 Lo llevó, pues, al puesto de los vigías, a la cumbre de Pisga, y edificó siete altares y ofreció un buey y un carnero sobre cada altar.
And he took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.
15 Luego dijo a Balac: Quédate en pie aquí junto a tu ofrenda quemada mientras me encuentro con Yavé allí.
And he said to Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet Jehovah yonder.
16 Entonces Yavé se encontró con Balaam, y al poner una Palabra en su boca, le dijo: Vuelve a Balac y le dirás así.
And Jehovah met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and thus shall thou speak.
17 Fue a él, y ciertamente éste se mantenía en pie junto a su holocausto, acompañado por los jefes de Moab. Y Balac le preguntó: ¿Qué dijo Yavé?
And he came to him. And, lo, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the rulers of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What has Jehovah spoken?
18 Entonces él tomo su parábola: ¡Levántate Balac y oye! ¡Presta oído a mis Palabras, hijo de Zippor!
And he took up his oracle, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear. Hearken to me, thou son of Zippor.
19 ʼElohim no es hombre para que mienta, Ni hijo de hombre para que se arrepienta. Él dijo, ¿y no hará? Habló, ¿y no lo cumplirá?
God is not a man, that he should lie, neither the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good?
20 Ciertamente recibí orden de bendecir. Bendije y no puedo revocarla.
Behold, I have received to bless. And he has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.
21 No vio iniquidad en Jacob, Ni notó maldad en Israel. Yavé su ʼElohim está con él. Resuena aclamación de júbilo como por un rey.
He has not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither has he seen perverseness in Israel. Jehovah his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.
22 ʼElohim lo sacó de Egipto. Es para él como los cuernos del búfalo.
God brings them forth out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild-ox.
23 No hay hechizo contra Jacob, Ni conjuro contra Israel. A su tiempo se dirá de Jacob y de Israel: ¡Miren lo que hizo ʼElohim!
Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob, neither is there any divination with Israel. Now it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God wrought!
24 Aquí está un pueblo que se levanta como leona, Y se alza como un león: No se echará hasta que devore la presa, Y beba la sangre de los que mató.
Behold, the people rise up as a lioness, and as a lion he lifts himself up. He shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.
25 Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: ¡Ya que no puedes maldecirlo, tampoco lo bendigas!
And Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.
26 Pero Balaam respondió a Balac: ¿No te lo anuncié, al decir: Todo lo que Yavé diga, eso debo hacer?
But Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell thee, saying, All that Jehovah speaks, that I must do?
27 Entonces Balac dijo a Balaam: ¡Ven, te ruego, te llevaré a otro lugar! ¡Quizás plazca ante ʼElohim que me los maldigas desde allí!
And Balak said to Balaam, Come now, I will take thee to another place. Perhaps it will please God that thou may curse them for me from there.
28 Balac condujo a Balaam a la cumbre del [pico] Peor, que da la cara al desierto.
And Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks down upon the desert.
29 Y Balaam dijo a Balac: Edifícame aquí siete altares, y sacrifícame aquí siete becerros y siete carneros.
And Balaam said to Balak, Build for me here seven altars, and prepare for me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
30 Balac hizo como Balaam dijo, y ofreció un buey y un carnero en cada altar.
And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bullock and a ram on every altar.
