Números 13
1 Yavé habló a Moisés:
And the Lord said to Moses,
2 Envía hombres que exploren para ti la tierra de Canaán, la cual doy a los hijos de Israel. Enviarán un varón por cada tribu de sus antepasados, cada cual jefe entre ellos.
Send men to get knowledge about the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from every tribe of their fathers you are to send a man, every one a chief among them.
3 Entonces Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, según la Palabra de Yavé. Todos aquellos varones eran jefes entre los hijos de Israel.
And Moses sent them from the waste land of Paran as the Lord gave orders, all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.
4 Estos eran sus nombres: De la tribu de Rubén, Samúa, hijo de Zacur.
And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, the son of Zaccur.
5 De la tribu de Simeón: Safat, hijo de Horí.
Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, the son of Hori.
6 De la tribu de Judá: Caleb, hijo de Jefone.
Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.
7 De la tribu de Isacar: Igal, hijo de José.
Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, the son of Joseph.
8 De la tribu de Efraín: Oseas, hijo de Nun.
Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea, the son of Nun.
9 De la tribu de Benjamín: Palti, hijo de Rafú.
Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, the son of Raphu.
10 De la tribu de Zabulón: Gadiel, hijo de Sodi.
Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, the son of Sodi.
11 De la tribu de José (de la tribu de Manasés): Gadi, hijo de Susi.
Of the tribe of Joseph, that is of the family of Manasseh, Gaddi, the son of Susi.
12 De la tribu de Dan: Amiel, hijo de Gemali.
Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gemalli.
13 De la tribu de Aser: Setur, hijo de Micael.
Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, the son of Michael
14 De la tribu de Neftalí: Nahbi, hijo de Vapsi.
Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, the son of Vophsi.
15 De la tribu de Gad: Geuel, hijo de Maqui.
Of the tribe of Gad, Gevel, the son of Machi.
16 Estos son los nombres de los varones que Moisés envió a explorar la tierra. Y a Oseas, hijo de Nun, Moisés lo llamó Josué.
These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to get knowledge about the land. And Moses gave to Hoshea, the son of Nun, the name of Joshua.
17 Moisés los envió a reconocer la tierra de Canaán y les dijo: Suban allí por el Neguev y luego remonten la montaña.
So Moses sent them to have a look at the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up into the South and into the hill-country;
18 Observen cómo es la tierra, al pueblo que la ocupa, si es fuerte o débil, si escaso o numeroso,
And see what the land is like; and if the people living in it are strong or feeble, small or great in number;
19 cómo es la tierra en la cual él habita, si es buena o mala, cómo son las ciudades en las cuales viven, si abiertas o fortificadas,
And what sort of land they are living in, if it is good or bad; and what their living-places are, tent-circles or walled towns;
20 y cómo es el terreno, si fértil o estéril, si hay árboles en él o no. Esfuércense y tomen del fruto de la tierra. Era el tiempo de las primeras uvas.
And if the land is fertile or poor, and if there is wood in it or not. And be of good heart, and come back with some of the produce of the land. Now it was the time when the first grapes were ready.
21 Subieron y exploraron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, en la entrada a Hamat.
So they went up and got a view of the land, from the waste land of Zin to Rehob, on the way to Hamath.
22 Remontaron el Neguev y llegaron hasta Hebrón, donde estaban Ahimán, Sesai y Talmai, hijos de Anac. (Hebrón fue edificada siete años antes que Zoán, en Egipto.)
They went up into the South and came to Hebron; and Ahiman and Sheshai and Talmai, the children of Anak, were living there. (Now the building of Hebron took place seven years before that of Zoan in Egypt.)
23 Llegaron hasta el Valle de Escol. Allí cortaron una rama con un racimo de uvas, el cual llevaron en un palo entre dos. También [cortaron] algunas granadas y algunos higos.
And they came to the valley of Eshcol, and cutting down a vine-branch with its grapes, two of them took it on a rod between them; and they took some pomegranates and figs.
24 Llamaron aquel lugar el Valle de Escol, a causa del racimo que los hijos de Israel cortaron allí.
That place was named the valley of Eshcol because of the grapes which the children of Israel took from there.
25 Regresaron de explorar la tierra al fin de 40 días.
At the end of forty days they came back from viewing the land.
26 Emprendieron viaje y llegaron a donde estaban Moisés, Aarón y toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel en Cades, en el desierto de Parán. Dieron cuenta a ellos y a toda la asamblea, y les mostraron el fruto de la tierra.
And they came back to Moses and Aaron and all the children of Israel, to Kadesh in the waste land of Paran; and gave an account to them and to all the people and let them see the produce of the land.
27 Les contaron: Llegamos a la tierra a la cual nos enviaste, y ciertamente fluye leche y miel. ¡Y este es el fruto de ella!
And they said, We came to the land where you sent us, and truly it is flowing with milk and honey: and here is some of the produce of it.
28 Pero el pueblo que habita en esa tierra es fuerte. Las ciudades están fortificadas y son muy grandes. También vimos allí a los descendientes de Anac.
But the people living in the land are strong, and the towns are walled and very great; further, we saw the children of Anak there.
29 Los amalecitas habitan en la tierra del Neguev. El heteo, jebuseo y amorreo habitan en la región montañosa y el cananeo habita junto al mar y en la ribera del Jordán.
And the Amalekites are in the South; and the Hittites and the Jebusites and the Amorites are living in the hill-country; and the Canaanites by the sea and by the side of Jordan.
30 Entonces Caleb trató de apaciguar al pueblo en la presencia de Moisés, y dijo: ¡De todos modos, debemos subir y tomar posesión de ella, porque ciertamente la conquistaremos!
Then Caleb made signs to the people to keep quiet, and said to Moses, Let us go up straight away and take this land; for we are well able to overcome it.
31 Pero los hombres que subieron con él dijeron: No podremos subir contra aquel pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.
But the men who had gone up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.
32 Difamaron ante los hijos de Israel la tierra que exploraron y dijeron: La tierra que fuimos a explorar es una tierra que devora a sus habitantes. Todo el pueblo que vimos en medio de ella son hombres de gran estatura.
And they gave the children of Israel a bad account of the land they had been to see, saying, This land through which we went is a land causing destruction to those living in it; and all the people we saw there are men of more than common size.
33 También vimos allí a los nefileos (los hijos de Anac son parte de los nefileos, raza de gigantes), y nos pareció que éramos como saltamontes. Así éramos ante sus ojos.
There we saw those great men, the sons of Anak, offspring of the Nephilim: and we seemed to ourselves no more than insects, and so we seemed to them.
