San Mateo 5
1 Cuando vio la multitud subió a la colina y se sentó. Se acercaron a Él sus discípulos
And having seen the multitudes, He went up to the mountain, and He having sat down, His disciples came to Him,
2 y les enseñaba:
and having opened His mouth, He was teaching them, saying,
3 Inmensamente felices los pobres en espíritu, porque de ellos es el reino celestial.
“Blessed the poor in spirit—because theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
4 Inmensamente felices los que lloran, porque ellos serán consolados.
Blessed the mourning—because they will be comforted.
5 Inmensamente felices los mansos, porque ellos heredarán la tierra.
Blessed the meek—because they will inherit the land.
6 Inmensamente felices los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia, porque ellos se saciarán.
Blessed those hungering and thirsting for righteousness—because they will be filled.
7 Inmensamente felices los misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.
Blessed the kind—because they will find kindness.
8 Inmensamente felices los de corazón limpio, porque ellos verán a Dios.
Blessed the clean in heart—because they will see God.
9 Inmensamente felices los que procuran la paz, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
Blessed the peacemakers—because they will be called sons of God.
10 Inmensamente felices los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia, porque de ellos es el reino celestial.
Blessed those persecuted for righteousness’ sake—because theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.
11 Inmensamente felices serán ustedes cuando los vituperen y los persigan, y digan toda clase de mal contra ustedes por causa de Mí.
Blessed are you whenever they may reproach you, and may persecute, and may say any evil thing against you falsely for My sake—
12 Alégrense y gócense, pues su galardón es grande en los cielos, porque así persiguieron a los profetas antes de ustedes.
rejoice and be glad, because your reward [is] great in the heavens, for thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13 Ustedes son la sal de la tierra. Pero si la sal se vuelve insípida, ¿con qué será salada? Ya para nada es buena, sino para que se eche fuera y la pisoteen los hombres.
You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt may lose savor, in what will it be salted? It is good for nothing from now on, except to be cast outside, and to be trodden down by men.
14 Ustedes son la luz del mundo. Una ciudad asentada sobre una montaña no se puede esconder.
You are the light of the world, a city set on a mountain is not able to be hid;
15 Tampoco encienden una lámpara para ponerla debajo de una caja, sino sobre el candelero, a fin de que alumbre a todos los que están en la casa.
nor do they light a lamp and put it under the measure, but on the lampstand, and it shines to all those in the house;
16 Así alumbre su luz delante de los hombres, de manera que vean sus buenas obras y glorifiquen a su Padre celestial.
so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father who [is] in the heavens.
17 No piensen que vine a abolir la Ley o los profetas. No vine a abolir, sino a cumplir.
Do not suppose that I came to throw down the Law or the Prophets—I did not come to throw down, but to fulfill;
18 Porque en verdad les digo: Antes que pasen el cielo y la tierra, de ningún modo pasará una iota ni un trazo de letra de la Ley, hasta que todo se cumpla.
for truly I say to you, until the heaven and the earth may pass away, one iota or one tittle may not pass away from the Law, until all may come to pass.
19 Por tanto cualquiera que anule uno solo de estos Mandamientos, aunque sea muy pequeño, y así enseñe a los hombres, se llamará muy pequeño en el reino celestial. Pero cualquiera que los practique y enseñe se llamará grande en el reino celestial.
Therefore whoever may loose one of these commands—the least—and may teach men so, he will be called least in the kingdom of the heavens, but whoever may do and may teach [them], he will be called great in the kingdom of the heavens.
20 Porque les digo que si la justicia de ustedes no es mayor que la de los escribas y fariseos, de ningún modo entrarán en el reino celestial.
For I say to you that if your righteousness may not abound above that of the scribes and Pharisees, you may not enter into the kingdom of the heavens.
21 Oyeron ustedes que se dijo a los antiguos: No asesinarás. Y cualquiera que asesine, quedará expuesto al juicio.
You heard that it was said to the ancients: You will not murder, and whoever may murder will be in danger of the judgment;
22 Pero Yo les digo que cualquiera que se enfurezca contra su hermano quedará expuesto al juicio. Cualquiera que diga a su hermano: ¡Raca! quedará expuesto ante el Tribunal Supremo, y cualquiera que diga: ¡Moré! quedará expuesto al fuego del infierno. (Geenna g1067)
but I say to you that everyone who is angry at his brother without cause will be in danger of the judgment, and whoever may say to his brother, Stupid, will be in danger of the Sanhedrin, and whoever may say, Moron, will be in danger of the Gehenna of fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 Por tanto, si presentas tu ofrenda en el altar y allí recuerdas que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti,
If, therefore, you may bring your gift to the altar, and there may remember that your brother has anything against you,
24 deja allí tu ofrenda ante el altar, y anda, reconcíliate primero con tu hermano. Luego regresa y presenta tu ofrenda.
leave there your gift before the altar, and go—first be reconciled to your brother, and then having come, bring your gift.
25 Ponte pronto de acuerdo con tu adversario mientras vas con él en el camino, no sea que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez al alguacil y seas encarcelado.
Be agreeing with your opponent quickly, while you are in the way with him, that the opponent may not deliver you to the judge, and the judge may deliver you to the officer, and you may be cast into prison;
26 En verdad te digo que de ninguna manera saldrás de allí hasta que pagues el último centavo.
truly I say to you, you may not come forth from there until you may pay the last penny.
27 Oyeron ustedes que se dijo: No adulterarás.
You heard that it was said to the ancients: You will not commit adultery;
28 Pero Yo les digo que cualquiera que mira a una mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón.
but I say to you that everyone who is looking on a woman to desire her, already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 Por tanto, si tu ojo derecho te es ocasión de caer, sácalo y échalo de ti, porque más te conviene que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea lanzado al infierno. (Geenna g1067)
But if your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast from you, for it is good to you that one of your members may perish, and not your whole body be cast into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
30 Si tu mano derecha te es ocasión de caer, córtala y échala de ti, pues más te conviene que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo vaya al infierno. (Geenna g1067)
And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and cast from you, for it is good to you that one of your members may perish, and not your whole body be cast into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
31 También se dijo: Cualquiera que repudie a su esposa, dele carta de divorcio.
And it was said that, Whoever may put away his wife, let him give to her a writing of divorce;
32 Pero Yo les digo que cualquiera que repudia a su esposa, salvo por causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere, y cualquiera que se case con una repudiada comete adulterio.
but I say to you that whoever may put away his wife, except for the matter of whoredom, makes her to commit adultery; and whoever may marry her who has been put away commits adultery.
33 Además ustedes oyeron que se dijo a los antiguos: No perjurarás, sino cumplirás tus juramentos al Señor.
Again, you heard that it was said to the ancients: You will not swear falsely, but you will pay to the LORD your oaths;
34 Pero Yo les digo: No juren de ningún modo: ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios,
but I say to you not to swear at all; neither by Heaven, because it is the throne of God,
35 ni por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies, ni hacia Jerusalén, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey,
nor by the earth, because it is His footstool, nor by Jerusalem, because it is [the] city of [the] great King,
36 ni jures por tu cabeza, pues no puedes hacer un solo cabello blanco o negro.
nor may you swear by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black;
37 Pero el hablar de ustedes sea: Sí, sí. No, no. Porque lo demás procede del maligno.
but let your word be, Yes, Yes, No, No, and that which is more than these is of the evil [one].
38 Oyeron ustedes que se dijo: Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente.
You heard that it was said: Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth;
39 Pero Yo les digo: No resistan al malvado. Más bien, al que te golpea en la mejilla derecha, ponle también la otra.
but I say to you not to resist the evil, but whoever will slap you on your right cheek, turn to him also the other;
40 Al que quiera pelear contigo y quitarte la ropa externa, dale también la interna.
and whoever is willing to take you to law, and to take your coat—also permit to him the cloak.
41 A cualquiera que te obligue a andar una milla, vé con él dos.
And whoever will impress you one mile, go with him two;
42 Al que te pida, dale, y al que quiera tomar de ti prestado, no le vuelvas la espalda.
to him who is asking of you be giving, and him who is willing to borrow from you, you may not turn away.
43 Oyeron ustedes que se dijo: Amarás a tu prójimo y aborrecerás a tu enemigo.
You heard that it was said: You will love your neighbor, and will hate your enemy;
44 Pero Yo les digo: Amen a sus enemigos y oren por los que los persiguen,
but I say to you, love your enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those accusing you falsely, and persecuting you,
45 para que sean hijos de su Padre celestial, Quien envía su sol sobre malos y buenos, y la lluvia para justos e injustos.
that you may be sons of your Father in the heavens, because He causes His sun to rise on evil and good, and He sends rain on righteous and unrighteous.
46 Porque si aman a los que los aman, ¿qué galardón tienen? ¿No hacen también lo mismo los publicanos?
For if you may love those loving you, what reward do you have? Do the tax collectors not also do the same?
47 Si solo saludan a sus hermanos, ¿qué otra cosa hacen? ¿No hacen también así los gentiles?
And if you may greet your brothers only, what do you do abundant? Do the nations not also do so?
48 Por tanto sean ustedes perfectos, como su Padre celestial es perfecto.
You will therefore be perfect, as your Father who [is] in the heavens is perfect.”
