San Mateo 3
1 En aquellos días llegó Juan el Bautista, quien proclamaba en el desierto de Judea:
Now, in those days, came John the Immerser, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judaea;
2 Cambien de mente, porque el reino celestial llegó.
saying, Repent ye, —for the kingdom of the heavens hath drawn near.
3 Pues yo soy el anunciado por el profeta Isaías: Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Preparen el camino del Señor. Allanen sus sendas.
For, this, is he who was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, A voice, of one crying aloud! In the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight, be making his paths.
4 Juan estaba vestido con pelo de camello y un cinturón de cuero. Su comida era saltamontes y miel silvestre.
But John, himself, had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, —while, his food, was locusts and wild honey.
5 Acudía a él Jerusalén, toda Judea y toda la región de alrededor del Jordán.
Then, were going forth unto him—Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the country round about the Jordan:
6 Confesaban públicamente sus pecados y los bautizaba en el río Jordán.
and were being immersed in the Jordan river, by him, openly confessing their sins.
7 Cuando vio que muchos fariseos y saduceos acudían a su bautismo, les dijo: ¡Generación de víboras! ¿Quién les enseñó a huir de la ira que viene?
But, seeing, many of the Pharisees and Sadducees, coming unto his immersion, he said to them, —Broods of vipers! who suggested to you, to be fleeing from the coming wrath?
8 Produzcan frutos dignos de cambio de mente,
Bring forth, therefore, fruit worthy of repentance;
9 y no supongan que puedan decir: A Abraham tenemos como padre. Porque les digo que Dios puede levantar de estas piedras hijos a Abraham.
and think not to be saying within yourselves, —As our father, we have, Abraham; for, I say unto you, that God is able, out of these stones, to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 Ya el hacha está puesta sobre la raíz de los árboles, de modo que todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado al fuego.
Already also, the axe, unto the root of the trees, is being laid, —every tree, therefore, not bringing forth good fruit, is to be hewn down, and, into fire, to be cast.
11 Yo ciertamente los bautizo con agua para [indicar] el cambio de mente, pero el que viene después de mí es más poderoso que yo. No soy digno de llevar sus sandalias. Él los bautizará con Espíritu Santo y fuego.
I, indeed, am immersing you, in water, unto repentance, —but, he who, after me, cometh is, mightier than I, whose, sandals, I am not worthy to bear, he, will immerse you, in Holy Spirit and fire:
12 Tiene su soplador en la mano y limpiará bien su era. Recogerá su trigo en el granero y quemará la concha partida del grano con fuego inextinguible.
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will clear out his threshing-floor, —and will gather his wheat into the granary, but, the chaff, will he burn up with fire unquenchable.
13 Entonces llegó Jesús desde Galilea al Jordán donde estaba Juan, para que lo bautizara.
Then, cometh Jesus, from Galilee to the Jordan, unto John, —to be immersed by him.
14 Pero [Juan] trataba de impedirle: Yo necesito que Tú me bautices, ¿y Tú vienes a mí?
But, he, would have hindered him, saying—I, have, need, by thee, to be immersed, —and dost, thou, come unto me?
15 Jesús le respondió: Permítelo ahora, porque así nos conviene cumplir toda justicia. Entonces se lo permitió.
But Jesus answering, said unto him, Suffer [me] even now, —for, thus, it becometh us, to fulfil, all righteousness; then, he suffered him.
16 Cuando Jesús fue bautizado, salió enseguida del agua. Los cielos se abrieron. Vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como una paloma y se posó sobre Él.
And Jesus, having been immersed, straightway, went up from the water, —and lo! the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God, descending like a dove coming upon him;
17 [Se oyó] una voz celestial que dijo: Este es mi Hijo amado, en Quien me complací.
and lo! a voice out of the heavens, —saying, This, is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I delight.
