San Mateo 23
1 Entonces Jesús habló a la multitud y a sus discípulos:
Then Jesus conversed with the multitude and with his disciples,
2 Los escribas y los fariseos se sientan en la cátedra de Moisés.
and said to them: The Scribes and Pharisees sit in the seat of Moses.
3 Hagan y guarden todo cuanto les digan. Pero no hagan según sus obras, porque dicen y no hacen.
Whatever therefore they tell you to observe, that observe and do. But according to their deeds, practise ye not: for they say, and do not.
4 Atan cargas pesadas y las ponen sobre los hombros de los varones. Ellos ni siquiera las tocan con un dedo suyo.
They tie up heavy burdens, and lay them on men's shoulders; but will not themselves touch them with their finger.
5 Más bien hacen todas sus obras para ser vistos por los hombres. Ensanchan sus filacterias, alargan los flecos,
And all their works they do, to be seen of men: for they make their phylacteries broad, and extend the fringes of their garments.
6 aman el primer reclinatorio en las cenas y las primeras sillas en las congregaciones,
And they love the highest couches at suppers and the highest seats in the synagogues,
7 los saludos pomposos en las plazas y ser llamados por los hombres: ¡Maestro!
and the greeting in the market places, and to be addressed by men with Rabbi.
8 Pero ustedes no permitan que los llamen maestros, porque uno solo es su Maestro, y todos ustedes son hermanos.
But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your Rabbi, and ye are all brethren.
9 A nadie llamen padre de ustedes en la tierra, pues uno solo es su Padre: El celestial.
And ye shall not call yourselves Father on earth; for one is your Father, who is in heaven.
10 Ni permitan que los llamen caudillos, porque uno es su Caudillo: El Cristo.
And be ye not called guides; for one is your Guide, the Messiah.
11 El mayor de ustedes será su servidor.
And the great one among you will be your servitor.
12 Porque el que se enaltezca será humillado, y el que se humille será enaltecido.
For whoever shall exalt himself, will be abased: and whoever shall abase himself, will be exalted.
13 Pero, ¡ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque cierran el reino celestial delante de los hombres, pues ustedes no entran ni dejan entrar a los que quieren entrar.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye devour the houses of widows, under the disguise of protracting your prayers. Therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.
Woe to you. Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye hold the kingdom of heaven closed before men; for ye enter not yourselves, and those that would enter ye suffer not to enter.
15 ¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas! Porque para hacer un prosélito recorren el mar y la tierra, y cuando es [prosélito, lo] hacen dos veces más hijo del infierno que ustedes. (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye traverse sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he is gained, ye make him a child of hell twofold more than yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 Ay de ustedes, guías ciegos, quienes dicen: Todo el que jure por el Santuario no es deudor, pero es deudor el que jure por el oro del Santuario.
Woe to you, ye blind guides: for ye say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold that is in the temple, he is holden.
17 ¡Insensatos y ciegos! ¿Qué es mayor: El oro o el Santuario que santifica el oro?
Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 También dicen: Todo el que jure por el altar, no es deudor. Pero es deudor el que jure por la ofrenda que está sobre él.
And, whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing: but whoever shall swear by the oblation upon it, he is holden.
19 ¡Ciegos! ¿Qué es mayor, la ofrenda o el altar que santifica la ofrenda?
Ye fools, and blind: for which is greater, the oblation, or the altar that sanctifieth the oblation?
20 El que jura por el altar, jura por él y por todo lo que está sobre él.
He therefore who sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all that is upon it.
21 El que jura por el Santuario, jura por él y por el que mora en él.
And he who sweareth by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth in it.
22 El que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios y por Quien se sienta sobre él.
And he who sweareth by heaven, sweareth by throne of God, and by him that sitteth on it.
23 Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas, porque diezman la menta, el eneldo y el comino, pero dejan lo más importante de la Ley: la justicia, la misericordia y la fe. Esto era necesario hacer sin dejar aquello.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye tithe mint, and anise, and cummin, and omit the graver matters of the law, judgment, and mercy, and fidelity: these ought ye to do, and those not to omit.
24 ¡Guías ciegos, que cuelan el mosquito y tragan el camello!
Ye blind guides, who strain out gnats, and swallow down camels.
25 Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas, porque limpian lo de afuera de la copa y del plato, pero por dentro están llenos de robo y desenfreno.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, while within they are full of rapine and wickedness.
26 ¡Fariseo ciego! Limpia primero lo de dentro de la copa, para que también lo de afuera quede limpio.
Ye blind Pharisees, cleanse first the inside of the cup and dish, that their outside may be clean also.
27 ¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque se parecen a sepulcros blanqueados, los cuales a la verdad se muestran hermosos por fuera, pero por dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda inmundicia.
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye are like whited sepulchres, which appear comely without, but are within full of bones of the dead and all impurity.
28 Así también ustedes, por fuera ciertamente parecen justos ante los hombres, pero por dentro están llenos de hipocresía e iniquidad.
So ye also, outwardly, appear to men as righteous; but within, ye are full of iniquity and hypocrisy.
29 ¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! Porque edifican los sepulcros de los profetas, adornan los monumentos de los justos
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye build the tombs of the prophets and ye adorn the sepulchres of the righteous;
30 y dicen: Si estuviéramos en los días de nuestros antepasados, no habríamos sido sus cómplices en la sangre de los profetas.
and ye say: If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been participators with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 De modo que dan testimonio contra ustedes mismos que son hijos de los que mataron a los profetas.
Wherefore ye are witnesses, against yourselves, that ye are the children of them that killed the prophets.
32 ¡Ustedes también colmen la medida de sus antepasados!
And as for you, fill ye up the measure of your fathers.
Ye serpents, ye race of vipers: how can ye escape the condemnation of hell? (Geenna g1067)
34 Por tanto, miren, Yo les envío profetas, sabios y escribas. Ustedes matarán y crucificarán a algunos de ellos. Azotarán a algunos en sus congregaciones y [los] perseguirán de ciudad en ciudad,
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; some of whom ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and will persecute them from city to city:
35 para que venga sobre ustedes toda la sangre justa que se derrama sobre la tierra, desde la sangre de Abel el justo, hasta la sangre de Zacarías, hijo de Baraquías, a quien ustedes mataron entre el Santuario y el altar.
so that on you may come all the blood of the righteous, which hath been shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 En verdad les digo: Todo esto vendrá sobre esta generación.
Verily I say to you, that all these things will come upon this generation.
37 ¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que te fueron enviados! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, como la gallina reúne sus polluelos bajo las alas, y ustedes no quisieron!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee: how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her young under her wings, and ye would not.
38 Miren, su casa queda desolada.
Behold, your house is left to you desolate!
39 Desde ahora les digo que de ningún modo me verán ustedes hasta que digan: ¡Bendito el que viene en Nombre del Señor!
For I say to you, That ye shall not see me henceforth, until ye shall say: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
