San Lucas 1
1 Puesto que muchos han tratado de poner en orden un relato de las cosas completamente ciertas entre nosotros,
Since many have undertaken to compile an account of the events that have been fulfilled among us,
2 como nos las transmitieron los que desde el principio fueron testigos oculares y servidores de la Palabra,
just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us,
3 a mí también me pareció bien, después de investigar con diligencia todas las cosas desde el principio, escribírtelas en orden, excelentísimo Teófilo,
it seemed good to me also, having carefully investigated all things from the beginning, to write an orderly account for yoʋ, most excellent Theophilus,
4 para que conozcas exactamente la verdad con respecto a las cosas en las cuales fuiste instruido.
so that yoʋ may know the certainty of the things about which yoʋ have been instructed.
5 Hubo en los días de Herodes, rey de Judea, un sacerdote llamado Zacarías, de la clase de Abías. Su esposa Elisabet era de la descendencia de Aarón.
In the days of Herod, the king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah who belonged to the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 Ambos eran justos delante de Dios y vivían de manera irreprochable según todos los Mandamientos y Ordenanzas del Señor.
They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.
7 No tenían hijos, porque Elisabet era estéril, y ambos de edad avanzada.
But they had no children because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both advanced in their days.
8 Aconteció que al ministrar él como sacerdote delante de Dios,
While Zechariah was serving as a priest before God when his division was on duty,
9 en el turno de su clase de oficio sacerdotal, cuando entró en el Santuario del Señor, le cayó en suerte ofrecer una ofrenda de incienso.
he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
10 Todo el pueblo hablaba con Dios afuera a la hora del incienso.
At the hour of incense a great crowd was assembled outside, praying.
11 Entonces se le apareció en pie un ángel del Señor a [la] derecha del altar del incienso.
Then an angel of the Lord appeared to Zechariah, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.
12 Cuando Zacarías [lo] vio se perturbó y se llenó de temor.
When Zechariah saw him, he was startled, and fear fell upon him.
13 Pero el ángel le dijo: No temas, Zacarías, porque fue oída tu conversación con Dios. Tu esposa Elisabet te dará a luz un hijo y lo llamarás Juan.
But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for yoʋr prayer has been heard. Yoʋr wife Elizabeth will bear yoʋ a son, and yoʋ shall name him John.
14 Será para ti gozo y alegría, y muchos se regocijarán por su nacimiento,
Yoʋ will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth,
15 porque será grande delante del Señor. No beberá vino ni licor, y será lleno del Espíritu Santo aun desde el vientre de su madre.
for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He must never drink any wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb.
16 Y muchos de los hijos de Israel volverán al Señor su Dios.
He will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 Éste irá delante del Señor con [el ]espíritu y poder de Elías, para volver corazones de padres a hijos, y de desobedientes a [la ]prudencia de [los ]justos, a fin de preparar un pueblo dispuesto para [el] Señor.
And he will go before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers back to their children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
18 Zacarías preguntó al ángel: ¿Cómo será esto? Porque yo y mi esposa somos ancianos.
Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I know this for certain? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in her days.”
19 Y el ángel le respondió: Yo soy Gabriel, el que está en la presencia de Dios, y fui enviado para hablar contigo y anunciarte estas Buenas Noticias.
The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God and was sent to speak to yoʋ and bring yoʋ this good news.
20 Por cierto, quedarás mudo y no podrás hablar hasta el día cuando sucedan estas cosas, por cuanto no creíste mis palabras, las cuales se cumplirán a su debido tiempo.
But behold, yoʋ will be silent and unable to speak until the day these things take place, because yoʋ did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their appointed time.”
21 El pueblo esperaba a Zacarías y extrañaba que demoraba en el Santuario.
Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering about his delay in the temple.
22 Cuando salió no podía hablarles. Comprendieron que había tenido una visión en el Santuario, porque les hablaba por señas y continuaba mudo.
When he came out, he was unable to speak to them, and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, because he kept making signs to them and remained unable to speak.
23 Aconteció que al cumplirse los días de su ministerio, fue a su casa.
And when the days of his service had come to an end, he returned to his home.
24 Después de estos días, su esposa Elisabet concibió. Se recluyó cinco meses y decía:
After those days his wife Elizabeth conceived and kept herself in seclusion for five months, saying,
25 Así hizo conmigo [el] Señor en los días cuando me miró para quitarme una afrenta entre [los] hombres.
“The Lord has done this for me. In these days he has looked upon me with favor and taken away my reproach among the people.”
26 El sexto mes Dios envió al ángel Gabriel a Nazaret de Galilea,
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
27 a una virgen comprometida con un hombre cuyo nombre era José, de la casa de David. El nombre de la virgen era María.
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
28 Cuando entró adonde estaba ella, dijo: ¡Regocíjate, muy favorecida! ¡El Señor está contigo!
The angel came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with yoʋ! Blessed are yoʋ among women!”
29 Ella se turbó mucho por esta palabra y se preguntaba de qué clase sería esta salutación.
But when Mary saw him, she was greatly perplexed by his statement and began wondering what sort of greeting this could be.
30 Pero el ángel le dijo: ¡No temas, María, porque hallaste gracia ante Dios!
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for yoʋ have found favor with God.
31 Mira, concebirás y darás a luz un Hijo. Llamarás su Nombre Jesús.
And behold, yoʋ will conceive in yoʋr womb and give birth to a son, and yoʋ shall name him Jesus.
32 Éste será grande y será llamado Hijo del Altísimo. [El] Señor Dios le dará el trono de David su antepasado.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (aiōn g165)
34 Entonces María preguntó al ángel: ¿Cómo será esto? Porque no me he unido a un hombre.
Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”
35 El ángel le respondió: [El] Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y [el] poder del Altísimo te hará sombra, por lo cual también el Santo Ser que nacerá será llamado Hijo de Dios.
The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon yoʋ, and the power of the Most High will overshadow yoʋ; therefore the holy child that is to be born will be called the Son of God.
36 Y mira, tu parienta Elisabet también concibió un hijo en su vejez, y éste es [el] sexto mes para la estéril.
And behold, yoʋr relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren.
37 Porque para Dios ninguna cosa es imposible.
For nothing is impossible with God.”
38 Entonces María contestó: Aquí está la esclava del Señor. Que se haga conmigo según tu palabra. Y el ángel se retiró.
Then Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; may it happen to me according to yoʋr word.” And the angel left her.
39 En aquellos días, María fue de prisa a una ciudad en la región montañosa de Judá.
In those days Mary arose and went with haste to the hill country, to a town of Judah,
40 Entró en la casa de Zacarías y saludó a Elisabet.
where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
41 Aconteció que cuando Elisabet oyó el saludo de María, la criatura saltó en su vientre, y Elisabet fue llena del Espíritu Santo.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 Y exclamó a gran voz: ¡Bendita tú entre [las] mujeres, y bendito el fruto de tu vientre!
Then she exclaimed with a loud voice, “Blessed are yoʋ among women, and blessed is the fruit of yoʋr womb!
43 ¿Por qué se me [concede] que venga a mí la madre de mi Señor?
How has this happened to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 Porque mira, cuando la voz de tu saludo llegó a mis oídos, la criatura saltó de regocijo en mi vientre.
For behold, when the sound of yoʋr greeting came into my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
45 ¡Inmensamente feliz la que creyó que se cumplirán las cosas que se le dijeron de parte del Señor!
Blessed is she who has believed, for what the Lord has spoken to her will be fulfilled.”
46 Entonces María exclamó: Mi alma engrandece al Señor,
Then Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 Y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador.
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 Porque miró la humilde condición de su esclava, Pues ciertamente desde ahora Todas las generaciones me llamarán inmensamente feliz.
because he has looked favorably on the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 Porque me concedió grandes cosas el Poderoso. ¡Santo es su Nombre!
because the Mighty One has done great things for me; holy is his name.
50 Su misericordia es de generación a generación Para los que le temen.
From generation to generation his mercy is upon those who fear him.
51 Hizo proeza con su brazo. Esparció a los soberbios en la intención de su corazón.
He has done a mighty deed with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
52 Derribó de [sus] tronos a los poderosos, Y exaltó a los humildes.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones and exalted the lowly.
53 A los que tienen hambre colmó de bienes, Y a los ricos envió vacíos.
He has filled the hungry with good things, but the rich he has sent away empty.
54 Al recordar [su] misericordia Ayudó a Israel su esclavo,
He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy,
just as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.” (aiōn g165)
56 María permaneció con ella como tres meses, y regresó a su casa.
And Mary remained with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned to her house.
57 Entonces se le cumplió a Elisabet el tiempo del parto y dio a luz un hijo.
Now the time was fulfilled for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son.
58 Sus vecinos y parientes oyeron que [el] Señor engrandeció su misericordia, y se gozaban con ella.
Then her neighbors and her relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and they rejoiced with her.
59 Sucedió que al octavo día fueron a circuncidar al niño, y lo llamaban Zacarías, con el nombre de su padre.
On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him Zechariah, after his father.
60 Pero intervino su madre: ¡No, se llamará Juan!
But the child's mother responded, “No! He is to be called John.”
61 Y le dijeron: Nadie hay de tu familia que tenga ese nombre.
But they said to her, “There is no one among yoʋr relatives who has that name.”
62 Por señas le preguntaban a su padre cómo deseaba llamarlo.
Then they began making signs to the child's father to find out what he wanted to name him.
63 Entonces él pidió una tablilla y escribió: Juan es su nombre. Y todos se asombraron.
So he asked for a tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And they were all amazed.
64 Al instante fue abierta su boca, y su lengua hablaba y bendecía a Dios.
At once Zechariah's mouth was opened and his tongue was released, and he began to speak, blessing God.
65 Hubo un temor en todos los que vivían alrededor de ellos, y en toda la región montañosa de Judea se comentaban todas estas cosas.
Then fear came upon all who dwelt around them, and in the entire hill country of Judea all these things were being discussed.
66 Todos los que [las] oían [las] tenían en su corazón y decían: ¿Quién, pues, será este niño? Porque [la] mano del Señor ciertamente estaba con él.
All who heard about this laid it up in their hearts, saying, “What then will this child become?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 Y su padre Zacarías fue lleno del Espíritu Santo y profetizó:
Then Zechariah, the child's father, was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:
68 Bendito el Señor Dios de Israel, Quien visitó y redimió a su pueblo.
“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he has visited his people and brought them redemption.
69 Nos levantó un Cuerno de salvación En [la] casa de David su esclavo.
He has raised up for us a horn of salvation in the house of his servant David
(just as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets long ago), (aiōn g165)
71 Salvación de nuestros enemigos Y de [la] mano de todos los que nos aborrecen,
salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us—
72 Para tener misericordia con nuestros antepasados Y recordar su santo Pacto.
to deal mercifully with our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,
73 El juramento que hizo a nuestro antepasado Abraham
the oath he swore to Abraham our father, to grant us
74 De librarnos de mano de [los] enemigos, Y concedernos que le sirvamos sin temor
that we, having been rescued from the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear,
75 En santidad y justicia delante de Él Todos nuestros días.
in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our lives.
76 ¡Y tú, niño, serás llamado profeta del Altísimo! Porque irás delante del Señor Para preparar sus caminos
And yoʋ, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High, for yoʋ will go before the presence of the Lord to prepare his ways,
77 Y dar conocimiento de salvación Y perdón de pecados a su pueblo,
to give his people knowledge of salvation through the remission of their sins,
78 A causa de [la] entrañable misericordia de nuestro Dios Con la cual la Aurora nos visitará desde [lo] alto,
through the tender mercy of our God, by which the sunrise has visited us from on high,
79 A fin de dar luz a los que viven en oscuridad y sombra de muerte, Y guiar nuestros pies hacia [el] camino de paz.
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
80 Y el niño crecía y se fortalecía en espíritu, y estuvo en los lugares despoblados hasta [el] día de su manifestación a Israel.
And the child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
