Levítico 11

1 Yavé habló a Moisés y a Aarón:

And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

2 Hablen a los hijos de Israel: Estos son los animales que comerán de entre todos los animales que hay sobre la tierra:

Speak you to the sons of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which you shall eat of all beasts that are upon the earth.

3 Comerán cualquiera que tenga pezuña hendida y que rumia.

Every beast parting the hoof and making divisions of two claws, and chewing the cud amongst beasts, these you shall eat.

4 Sin embargo, de los que rumian o tienen pezuña hendida, no comerán éstos: el camello, porque rumia, pero no tiene pezuña hendida. Será impuro para ustedes.

But of these you shall not eat, of those that chew the cud, and of those that part the hoofs, and divide claws; the camel, because it chews the cud, but does not divide the hoof, this is unclean to you.

5 El conejo, porque rumia, pero no tiene pezuña hendida. Será impuro para ustedes.

And the rabbit, because it chews the cud, but does not divide the hoof, this is unclean to you.

6 La liebre, porque rumia, pero no tiene pezuña hendida. Será impura para ustedes.

And the hare, because it does not chew the cud, and does not divide the hoof, this is unclean to you.

7 El cerdo, aunque tiene pezuña y es de pezuña hendida, no rumia. Será impuro para ustedes.

And the swine, because this [animal] divides the hoof, and makes claws of the hoof, and it does not chew the cud, is unclean to you.

8 De su carne no comerán ni tocarán sus cadáveres. Son impuros para ustedes.

You shall not eat of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcases; these are unclean to you.

9 De todos los que están en el agua, tanto en los mares como en los ríos, éstos pueden comer: todo lo que tenga aletas y escamas.

And these [are] what you shall eat of all that are in the waters: all things that have fins and scales in the waters, and in the seas, and in the brooks, these you shall eat.

10 Pero todo lo que hay en los mares y en los ríos que no tenga aletas ni escamas, sea reptil o cualquier ser acuático, les será repugnante.

And all things which have not fins or scales in the water, or in the seas, and in the brooks, of all which the waters produce, and of every soul living in the water, are an abomination; and they shall be abominations to you.

11 Les serán detestables. De su carne no comerán y a sus cadáveres tendrán repulsión.

You shall not eat of their flesh, and you shall abhor their carcases.

12 Todo lo que hay en las aguas y no tenga aletas y escamas les será repugnante.

And all things that have not fins or scales of those that are in the waters, these are an abomination to you.

13 En cuanto a las aves tendrán repulsión a las siguientes, que no se comerán y serán repugnantes: el águila, el buitre quebrantahuesos, el zopilote,

And these are the things which you shall abhor of birds, and they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle and the ossifrage, and the sea-eagle.

14 el gallinazo, el milano, según su especie,

And the vulture, and the kite, and the like to it;

15 todo cuervo, según su especie,

and the sparrow, and the owl, and the cormorant, and the like to it:

16 el avestruz, la lechuza, la gaviota, el gavilán, según su especie,

and every raven, and the birds like it, and the hawk and his like,

17 el búho, el somormujo, el ibis,

and the night-raven and the cormorant and the stork,

18 el cisne, el pelícano, el buitre,

and the red-bill, and the pelican, and swan,

19 la cigüeña, la garza, según su especie, la abubilla y el murciélago.

and the heron, and the lapwing, and the like to it, and the hoopoe and the bat.

20 Será repugnante para ustedes todo insecto alado que ande a cuatro patas.

And all winged creatures that creep, which go upon four feet, are abominations to you.

21 Sin embargo, de entre los insectos alados que anden sobre cuatro patas, podrán comer el que además de sus patas delanteras, tenga patas traseras para saltar con ellas sobre la tierra.

But these you shall eat of the creeping winged animals, which go upon four feet, which have legs above their feet, to leap with on the earth.

22 De ellos podrán comer: la langosta, según su especie, el grillo, según su especie, la chicharra, según su especie y el saltamontes, según su especie.

And these of them you shall eat: the caterpillar and his like, and the attacus and his like, and the cantharus and his like, and the locust and his like.

23 Pero todo insecto alado que tenga cuatro patas es repugnante para ustedes.

Every creeping thing from amongst the birds, which has four feet, is an abomination to you.

24 Por comer éstos serán impuros. Cualquiera que toque sus cadáveres será impuro hasta llegar la noche.

And by these you shall be defiled; every one that touches their carcases shall be unclean till the evening.

25 Cualquiera que lleve alguna parte de sus cadáveres, lavará sus ropas y quedará impuro hasta llegar la noche.

And every one that takes of their dead bodies shall wash his garments, and shall be unclean till the evening.

26 Tendrán como impuro todo animal de pezuña que no tenga pezuña hendida ni rumie, y todo el que los toque será impuro.

And whichever amongst the beasts divides the hoof and makes claws, and does not chew the cud, shall be unclean to you; every one that touches their dead bodies shall be unclean till evening.

27 De todos los animales que andan con cuatro patas, tendrán como impuro todo el que ande sobre sus garras. Cualquiera que toque sus cuerpos muertos será impuro hasta llegar la noche.

And every one amongst all the wild beasts that moves upon its fore feet, which goes on all four, is unclean to you; every one that touches their dead bodies shall be unclean till evening.

28 El que recoja sus cadáveres se lavará la ropa, y será impuro hasta llegar la noche. Serán impuros para ustedes.

And he that takes of their dead bodies shall wash his garments, and shall be unclean till evening: these are unclean to you.

29 Tendrán como impuros estos animales de los que se mueven sobre la tierra: el topo, el ratón y la tortuga, según su especie,

And these [are] unclean to you of reptiles upon the earth, the weasel, and the mouse, and the lizard,

30 el erizo, el lagarto, el caracol, la babosa y el camaleón.

the ferret, and the chameleon, and the evet, and the newt, and the mole.

31 Éstos son impuros para ustedes entre todos los que se mueven sobre la tierra. Cualquiera que los toque cuando estén muertos será impuro hasta llegar la noche.

These are unclean to you of all the reptiles which are on the earth; every one who touches their carcases shall be unclean till evening.

32 También será impuro todo aquello sobre lo cual caiga uno de éstos después de muerto, sea un objeto de madera, o ropa, o piel, o saco, o cualquier utensilio usado para cualquier actividad. Se meterá en agua y será impuro hasta llegar la noche. Después será puro.

And on whatever one of their dead bodies shall fall it shall be unclean; whatever wooden vessel, or garment, or skin, or sack it may be, every vessel in which work should be done, shall be dipped in water, and shall be unclean till evening; and [then] it shall be clean.

33 Si alguno de ellos cae dentro de cualquier vasija de barro, todo lo que esté en ella será impuro, y la quebrarán.

And every earthen vessel into which one of these things shall fall, whatever is inside it, shall be unclean, and it shall be broken.

34 Cualquier alimento que se coma sobre el cual caiga agua de esa vasija será impuro, y todo líquido que se beba en tal vasija será impuro.

And all food that is eaten, on which water shall come [from such a vessel], shall be unclean; and every beverage which is drunk in any [such] vessel, shall be unclean.

35 Será impura cualquier cosa sobre la cual caiga uno de sus cadáveres. Si es un horno o un fogón serán destruidos. Son impuros y serán impuros para ustedes.

And every thing on which there shall fall of their dead bodies shall be unclean; ovens and stands for jars shall be broken down: these are unclean, and they shall be unclean to you.

36 Serán puras las fuentes, cisternas y depósitos de agua, pero lo que toque un cadáver será impuro.

Only [if the water be] of fountains of water, or a pool, or confluence of water, it shall be clean; but he that touches their carcases shall be unclean.

37 Si cualquier parte de sus cadáveres cae sobre cualquier semilla que se va a sembrar, será limpia.

And if one of their carcases should fall upon any sowing seed which shall be sown, it shall be clean.

38 Pero si se echó agua en la semilla, y uno de sus cadáveres cae sobre ella, les será impura.

But if water be poured on any seed, and one of their dead bodies fall upon it, it is unclean to you.

39 Si muere cualquier animal del cual pueden comer, el que toque su cadáver será impuro hasta llegar la noche.

And if one of the cattle die, which it is lawful for you to eat, he that touches their carcases shall be unclean till evening.

40 El que coma de su cadáver lavará sus ropas y será impuro hasta llegar la noche. El que recoja el cadáver lavará sus ropas, y será impuro hasta llegar la noche.

And he that eats of their carcases shall wash his garments, and be unclean till evening; and he that carries any of their carcases shall wash his garments, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean till evening.

41 Todo reptil que se arrastra sobre la tierra es repugnancia. No se comerá.

And every reptile that creeps on the earth, this shall be an abomination to you; it shall not be eaten.

42 De todo reptil que se arrastra sobre la tierra: cualquiera que se mueva sobre su pecho, cualquiera que ande sobre cuatro patas o cualquiera que tenga muchos pies, no comerán, porque son repugnantes.

And every [animal] that creeps on its belly, and every one that goes on four [feet] continually, which abounds with feet amongst all the reptiles creeping upon the earth—you shall not eat it, for it is an abomination to you.

43 No se hagan repugnantes por cualquier animal que se arrastra, ni se contaminen con ellos, para que no sean impuros,

And you shall not defile your souls with any of the reptiles that creep upon the earth, and you shall not be polluted with them, and you shall not be unclean by them.

44 porque Yo soy Yavé su ʼElohim. Ustedes se santificarán y serán santos, porque Yo soy santo. No se contaminen por causa de algún reptil que se mueva sobre la tierra,

For I am the Lord your God; and you shall be sanctified, and you shall be holy, because I the Lord your God am holy; and you shall not defile your souls with any of the reptiles creeping upon the earth.

45 porque Yo soy Yavé, Quien los sacó de la tierra de Egipto para ser su ʼElohim. Sean santos porque Yo soy santo.

For I am the Lord who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God; and you shall be holy, for I the Lord am holy.

46 Esta es la Ley de los animales, de las aves, de todo ser viviente que se mueve en las aguas, y de todo animal que se mueve sobre la tierra,

This is the law concerning beasts and birds and every living creature moving in the water, and every living creature creeping on the earth;

47 para hacer separación entre lo impuro y lo limpio, y entre los seres vivos que se pueden comer y los que no se pueden comer.

to distinguish between the unclean and the clean; and between those that bring forth alive, such as should be eaten, and those that bring forth alive, such as should not be eaten.
