Jueces 8

1 Entonces los hombres de Efraín le dijeron: ¿Qué es esto que hiciste con nosotros, de no llamarnos cuando fuiste a la guerra contra Madián? Y discutieron enérgicamente con él.

And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with Midian? And they did chide with him sharply.

2 Pero él les dijo: ¿Qué hice yo en comparación con ustedes? ¿No son mejores los rebuscos de Efraín que la cosecha de Abiezer?

And he said unto them, What have I now done in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?

3 ʼElohim entregó en sus manos a Oreb y a Zeeb, jefes de Madián. ¿Qué podía hacer yo en comparación con ustedes? Cuando dijo esto, se aplacó su enojo hacia él.

God hath delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.

4 Cuando Gedeón y los 300 hombres que tenía consigo llegaron al Jordán y lo cruzaron, estaban cansados, pero continuaron la persecución.

And Gideon came to Jordan, [and] passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing.

5 Y dijo a los hombres de Sucot: Les ruego que den algunos bocados de pan a la gente que me sigue, porque están cansados, y persigo a Zeba y a Zalmuna, reyes de Madián.

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.

6 Pero los jefes de Sucot le respondieron: ¿Están ya en tu mano Zeba y Zalmuna, para que demos pan a tu tropa?

And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?

7 Y Gedeón les contestó: Por esto, cuando Yavé entregue en mi mano a Zeba y a Zalmuna, trillaré la carne de ustedes con espinos y abrojos del desierto.

And Gideon said: Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.

8 Subió de allí a Peniel y les dijo las mismas palabras. Y los hombres de Peniel le respondieron de la misma manera que los hombres de Sucot.

And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them in like manner: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.

9 Entonces él dijo también a los hombres de Peniel: Cuando yo regrese en paz, derribaré esta torre.

And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.

10 Zeba y Zalmuna estaban en Carcor con su ejército de como 15.000 hombres, los que quedaron de todo el campamento de los hijos del oriente, pues cayeron 120.000 hombres que sacaban espada.

Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the host of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.

11 Entonces Gedeón subió por el camino de los que habitan en tiendas al oriente de Noba y de Jogbeá, y atacó al ejército cuando no estaba en guardia.

And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host; for the host was secure.

12 Zeba y Zalmuna huyeron, pero él los persiguió y capturó a los dos reyes de Madián, a Zeba y a Zalmuna. Llenó de terror a todo su ejército.

And Zebah and Zalmunna fled; and he pursued after them; and he took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.

13 Luego Gedeón, hijo de Joas, regresó de la batalla por la cuesta de Heres,

And Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle from the ascent of Heres.

14 y detuvo a un joven de los hombres de Sucot y lo interrogó. Éste le dio por escrito los nombres de los jefes de Sucot y de sus ancianos: 76 varones.

And he caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described for him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, seventy and seven men.

15 Cuando llegó ante los hombres de Sucot, les dijo: Miren a Zeba y a Zalmuna, quienes se burlaron de mí y dijeron: ¿Están ya en tu mano Zeba y Zalmuna, para que demos pan a tus hombres cansados?

And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom ye did taunt me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?

16 Tomó a los ancianos de la ciudad, y azotó a los varones de Sucot con espinos y abrojos del desierto.

And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.

17 También derribó la torre de Peniel y mató a los varones de la ciudad.

And he brake down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.

18 Luego preguntó a Zeba y a Zalmuna: ¿Qué aspecto tenían los hombres que ustedes mataron en Tabor? Y ellos respondieron: Como tú, así eran ellos. Cada uno parecía el hijo del rey.

Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.

19 Y él dijo: ¡Eran mis hermanos! ¡Los hijos de mi madre! Vive Yavé, que si los hubieron dejado vivos, yo no los mataría a ustedes.

And he said, They were my brethren, the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.

20 Y dijo a Jéter, su primogénito: ¡Levántate, mátalos! Pero el joven no desenvainó su espada, pues tuvo temor, porque aún era un muchacho.

And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.

21 Entonces Zeba y Zalmuna dijeron: ¡Levántate tú y mátanos, pues como es el varón, así es su valentía! Y Gedeón se levantó y mató a Zeba y a Zalmuna, y tomó las lunetas que sus camellos llevaban en el cuello.

Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took the crescents that were on their camels’ necks.

22 Los hombres de Israel dijeron a Gedeón: Gobiérnanos tú, tu hijo y tu nieto, pues nos libraste de la mano de Madián.

Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son also: for thou hast saved us out of the hand of Midian.

23 Pero Gedeón respondió: Yo no los gobernaré, ni mi hijo. Yavé los gobernará.

And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.

24 Sin embargo, Gedeón les dijo: Les hago una petición: que cada uno me dé los zarcillos de su botín, pues [los madianitas] tenían zarcillos de oro, porque eran ismaelitas.

And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his spoil. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

25 Ellos dijeron: Con mucho gusto te los daremos. Y tendieron el manto y allí echó cada uno los zarcillos de su botín.

And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his spoil.

26 El peso de los zarcillos de oro que él pidió fue 18,7 kilogramos de oro, aparte de las lunetas, los pendientes y las ropas de púrpura que llevaban los reyes de Madián, y aparte de los collares que llevaban sus camellos.

And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred [shekels] of gold; beside the crescents, and the pendants, and the purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks.

27 Gedeón hizo con ellos un efod y lo puso en Ofra, su ciudad. Todo Israel se prostituyó allí con aquello, y se convirtió en una trampa para Gedeón y su familia.

And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went a whoring after it there: and it became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.

28 Así Madián fue sometido ante los hijos de Israel y no volvieron a levantar sus cabezas. Y la tierra tuvo 40 años de descanso en los días de Gedeón.

So Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, and they lifted up their heads no more. And the land had rest forty years in the days of Gideon.

29 Jerobaal, hijo de Joás, fue y vivió en su casa.

And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.

30 Gedeón tuvo 70 hijos que fueron sus descendientes porque tenía muchas mujeres.

And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.

31 Su concubina, que vivía en Siquem, también le dio un hijo, y lo llamó Abimelec.

And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, and he called his name Abimelech.

32 Gedeón, hijo de Joás, murió en buena vejez. Fue sepultado en el sepulcro de Joás, su padre, en Ofra de los abiezeritas.

And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

33 Pero aconteció que cuando Gedeón murió, los hijos de Israel volvieron a prostituirse al seguir a los baales y escogieron a Baal-berit como su ʼelohim.

And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after the Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.

34 Los hijos de Israel no se acordaron de Yavé su ʼElohim, Quien los libró de mano de todos sus enemigos de alrededor.

And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hand of all their enemies on every side:

35 Tampoco se mostraron agradecidos con la casa de Jerobaal, quien es Gedeón, por todo el bien que hizo a Israel.

neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, [who is] Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
