1 Entonces Jerobaal, el cual es Gedeón, y todo el pueblo madrugaron y acamparon junto a la fuente de Harod. El campamento de Madián estaba al norte de ellos, en el valle cercano a la colina de Moré.
And Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, arose early, and all the people that were with him, and they encamped beside the spring Harod; and he had the camp of Midian on the north by the hill of Moreh in the valley.
2 Yavé dijo a Gedeón: El pueblo que está contigo es muy numeroso para que Yo entregue a Madián en tu mano, no sea que Israel se enaltezca contra Mí y diga: Mi mano me salvó.
And Jehovah said to Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give Midian into their hand, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.
3 Pregona a oídos del pueblo: ¡El que tema y tiemble, regrese y retírese de la montaña de Galaad! Y de los del pueblo se devolvieron 22.000 y quedaron 10.000.
And now proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whoever is timid and afraid, let him go back and turn from mount Gilead. And there went back of the people twenty-two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.
4 Entonces Yavé dijo a Gedeón: Aún el pueblo es mucho. Ordena que bajen a las aguas, y te los probaré allí. Sucederá que del que Yo te diga: Vaya éste contigo, irá contigo. Pero del que te diga: No vaya éste contigo, no irá.
And Jehovah said to Gideon, Still the people are many; bring them down to the water, and I will try them for thee there, and it shall be, that of whom I shall say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I shall say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
5 Ordenó, pues, que el pueblo bajara a las aguas, y Yavé dijo a Gedeón: Todo el que lama las aguas con su lengua, como lame el perro, lo pondrás aparte, también a todo el que se arrodille para beber.
And he brought down the people to the water; and Jehovah said to Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down on his knees to drink.
6 El número de los que lamieron pues llevaron el agua con la mano a su boca fue 300 hombres, pero el resto del pueblo se arrodilló para beber el agua.
And the number of them that lapped, with their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men; and all the rest of the people bowed down on their knees to drink water.
7 Y Yavé dijo a Gedeón: Con estos 300 hombres que lamieron el agua los salvaré y entregaré a los madianitas en tus manos. Que todo el pueblo se vaya, cada uno a su lugar.
And Jehovah said to Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and give Midian into thy hand; and let all the people go every man to his place.
8 Así que los 300 hombres tomaron en sus manos las provisiones del pueblo y sus cornetas. Y Gedeón envió a todos los demás hombres de Israel, cada uno a su tienda, pero retuvo a los 300 hombres. El campamento de Madián estaba más abajo de él, en el valle.
And they took the victuals of the people in their hand, and their trumpets; and all the men of Israel he sent away, every man to his tent, but retained the three hundred men. Now the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9 Sucedió aquella noche que Yavé le dijo: Levántate, baja al campamento, porque lo entregué en tu mano.
And it came to pass in that night, that Jehovah said to him, Arise, go down to the camp; for I have given it into thy hand.
10 Si tienes temor de bajar solo al campamento, baja con tu esclavo Fura,
And if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the camp;
11 y escucha lo que dicen, pues así tus manos serán fortalecidas para bajar contra el campamento. Y él bajó con su esclavo Fura hasta los puestos de avanzada del ejército que estaba en el campamento.
and thou shalt hear what they say; and afterwards shall thy hand be strengthened, and thou shalt go down unto the camp. And he went down with Phurah his servant to the outside of the armed men that were in the camp.
12 Los madianitas, los amalecitas y los hijos del oriente estaban tendidos por el valle, tan numerosos como langostas, y sus camellos eran incontables, tan numerosos como la arena que está a la orilla del mar.
And Midian and Amalek and all the children of the east lay along in the valley as locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand upon the sea-shore for multitude.
13 Ciertamente, cuando Gedeón llegó, un hombre estaba narrando a su compañero un sueño y decía: Mira, tuve un sueño: Veía un pan de cebada rodando hasta el campamento de Madián. Llegó hasta la tienda y la golpeó de tal manera que cayó. La trastornó de arriba a abajo de tal modo que la tienda colapsó.
And Gideon came, and behold, a man was telling a dream to his fellow; and he said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and lo, a cake of barley-bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, and came to the tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it; and the tent lay along.
14 Su compañero respondió: ¡Esto no es otra cosa que la espada de Gedeón, hijo de Joás, varón de Israel! ʼElohim entregó en su mano a Madián y a todo el campamento.
And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, the man of Israel: God hath given into his hand Midian and all the host.
15 Sucedió que cuando Gedeón oyó el relato del sueño con su interpretación, se postró. Regresó al campamento de Israel y dijo: Levántense, porque Yavé entregó en su mano todo el campamento de Madián.
And it came to pass when Gideon heard the telling of the dream and its interpretation, that he worshipped. And he returned into the camp of Israel, and said, Arise; for Jehovah hath given into your hand the camp of Midian.
16 Repartió los 300 hombres en tres compañías. Puso una corneta en la mano de cada uno de ellos y cántaros vacíos con antorchas encendidas dentro de los cántaros.
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man's hand, and empty pitchers, and torches within the pitchers.
17 Y les dijo: Mírenme y hagan lo mismo. Y oigan, cuando yo llegue a las afueras del campamento, lo que yo haga, lo harán ustedes.
And he said to them, Look on me, and do likewise; behold, when I come to the extremity of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.
18 Cuando yo y todos los que están conmigo hagamos resonar una corneta, entonces cada uno de ustedes también hará resonar una corneta alrededor de todo el campamento y gritarán: ¡Por Yavé y por Gedeón!
And when I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, ye also shall blow the trumpets around the whole camp, and shall say, For Jehovah and for Gideon!
19 Gedeón y los 100 hombres que estaban con él llegaron a las afueras del campamento al principio de la vigilia intermedia, cuando acababan de relevar a los centinelas. Y al hacer resonar cornetas, quebraron los cántaros que llevaban en sus manos.
And Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came to the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch; and they blew the trumpets, and broke the pitchers that were in their hands.
20 Entonces, las tres compañías hicieron resonar las cornetas y quebraron los cántaros. Tomaron con su mano izquierda las antorchas y con su derecha las cornetas para hacerlas resonar, y clamaron: ¡Por Yavé y por Gedeón!
And the three companies blew the trumpets, and broke in pieces the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hand, and the trumpets in their right hand for blowing, and cried, The sword of Jehovah and of Gideon!
21 Cada hombre se mantuvo firme en su lugar alrededor del campamento, y todo el ejército echó a correr, gritaba y huía.
And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran, and cried out, and fled.
22 Pues cuando hicieron resonar las 300 cornetas, Yavé levantó la espada de cada uno contra su compañero en todo el campamento. El ejército huyó hasta Bet-sita, en dirección de Zerera, hasta el límite de Abel-mehola, cerca de Tabat.
And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and Jehovah set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout the camp. And the host fled to Beth-shittah towards Zererah, to the border of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.
23 Fueron convocados los israelitas de Neftalí, de Aser y de todo Manasés, y persiguieron a Madián.
And the men of Israel were called together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after Midian.
24 Luego Gedeón envió mensajeros por toda la región montañosa de Efraín y dijo: ¡Bajen a encontrar a los madianitas y tomen los vados de Bet-bara y del Jordán antes que ellos! Y todos los hombres de Efraín se reunieron y tomaron los vados de Bet-bara y del Jordán.
And Gideon sent messengers throughout mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian, and take before them the waters unto Beth-barah, and the Jordan. And all the men of Ephraim were called together, and took the waters unto Beth-barah, and the Jordan.
25 Capturaron a los dos jefes madianitas: Oreb y Zeeb, y mataron a Oreb en Tsur-oreb, y a Zeeb en Jequeb-zeeb. Y persiguieron a los madianitas, pero las cabezas de Oreb y de Zeeb las llevaron a Gedeón, al otro lado del Jordán.
And they took two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb; and they pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.
