Jueces 12

1 Entonces los varones de Efraín fueron convocados, cruzaron hacia Safón y dijeron a Jefté: ¿Por qué fuiste a luchar contra los hijos de Amón y no nos llamaste para ir contigo? ¡Incendiaremos tu casa contigo dentro!

The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, "Why did you pass over to fight against the people of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house on you with fire."

2 Jefté les respondió: Yo y mi pueblo tuvimos una gran contienda contra los hijos de Amón. Los convoqué a ustedes, pero no me [auxiliaron para] librarnos de su mano.

And Jephthah said to them, "I and my people had a dispute, and the people of Ammon were oppressing me greatly; and when I called you, you did not save me out of their hand.

3 Cuando vi que ustedes no me defenderían, arriesgué mi vida y pasé contra los hijos de Amón. Yavé los entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué se levantan hoy a pelear contra mí?

When I saw that you did not save me, I put my life in my own hands, and passed over against the people of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?"

4 Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los varones de Galaad y peleó contra Efraín. Y los hombres de Galaad derrotaron a Efraín, porque [éstos] dijeron: ¡Ustedes, los galaaditas, son fugitivos de Efraín, en medio de Efraín y de Manasés!

Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, "You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh."

5 Los galaaditas capturaron los vados del Jordán que están frente a Efraín. Y sucedía que cuando cualquiera de los fugitivos de Efraín decía: Voy a pasar, los hombres de Galaad le preguntaban: ¿Eres tú efrateo? Y si él respondía: No,

The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. It was so, that when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, "Let me go over," the men of Gilead said to him, "Are you an Ephraimite?" If he said, "No";

6 entonces le decían: Dí ahora, Shibolet. Y él decía Sibolet, porque no podía pronunciar así. Entonces le echaban mano y lo degollaban en los vados del Jordán. Y en aquel tiempo cayeron 42.000 de Efraín.

then they said to him, "Now say 'Shibboleth;'" and he said "Sibboleth"; for he couldn't manage to pronounce it right: then they seized him, and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. There fell at that time of Ephraim forty-two thousand.

7 Jefté juzgó a Israel seis años. Jefté galaadita murió y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad.

Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in his city in Gilead.

8 Después de él, Ibzán, de Belén, juzgó a Israel.

After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

9 Tenía 30 hijos y 30 hijas a las cuales casó afuera. Tomó de afuera 30 mujeres para sus hijos. Y juzgó a Israel siete años.

He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.

10 Ibzán murió y fue sepultado en Belén.

Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.

11 Después de él Elón zabulonita juzgó a Israel, y juzgó a Israel diez años.

After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

12 Elón zabulonita murió y fue sepultado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.

Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13 Después de él Abdón, hijo de Hilel, piratonita, juzgó a Israel.

After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.

14 Éste tuvo 40 hijos y 30 nietos, que cabalgaban sobre 70 asnos. Y juzgó a Israel 8 años.

He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkey colts. And he judged Israel eight years.

15 Abdón, hijo de Hilel piratonita, murió y fue sepultado en Piratón en la tierra de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los amalecitas.

Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
