Josué 22

1 Entonces Josué llamó a los rubenitas, los gaditas y la media tribu de Manasés

Then Joshua sent for the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,

2 y les dijo: Ustedes guardaron todo lo que Moisés, esclavo de Yavé, les mandó, y en todo lo que les ordené obedecieron mi voz.

And said to them, You have kept all the orders of Moses, the Lord's servant, and have done everything I gave you orders to do:

3 No abandonaron a sus hermanos en este largo tiempo hasta hoy, sino se cuidaron de guardar el mandamiento de Yavé su ʼElohim.

You have now been with your brothers for a long time; till this day you have been doing the orders of the Lord your God.

4 Ahora cuando Yavé su ʼElohim dio reposo a sus hermanos, como les prometió, regresen a sus tiendas, a la tierra de sus posesiones que Moisés, esclavo de Yavé, les dio al otro lado del Jordán.

And now the Lord your God has given your brothers rest, as he said: so now you may go back to your tents, to the land of your heritage, which Moses, the Lord's servant, gave to you on the other side of Jordan.

5 Solamente tengan mucho cuidado de observar el mandamiento y la enseñanza que Moisés, esclavo de Yavé, les ordenó: amar a Yavé su ʼElohim y andar en todos sus caminos, guardar sus Mandamientos y aferrarse a Él, y servirle con todo su corazón y con toda su alma.

Only take great care to do the orders and the law which Moses, the Lord's servant, gave you; to have love for the Lord your God and to go in all his ways; and to keep his laws and to be true to him and to be his servants with all your heart and with all your soul.

6 Josué los bendijo y los despidió, y ellos regresaron a sus tiendas.

Then Joshua gave them his blessing and sent them away: and they went back to their tents.

7 Moisés dio posesión en Basán a la media tribu de Manasés, pero a la otra media tribu Josué le dio herencia entre sus hermanos hacia el oeste, al otro lado del Jordán. También Josué bendijo a aquéllos cuando los envió a sus tiendas

Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given a heritage in Bashan; but to the other half, Joshua gave a heritage among their brothers on the west side of Jordan. Now when Joshua sent them away to their tents, he gave them his blessing,

8 y les habló: Regresen a sus tiendas con riquezas abundantes, con mucho ganado, plata, oro, bronce, hierro y muchas ropas. ¡Repartan el despojo de sus enemigos con sus hermanos!

And said to them, Go back with much wealth to your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver and gold and brass and iron, and with a very great store of clothing; give your brothers a part of the goods taken in the war.

9 Entonces los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés regresaron desde Silo, que está en la tierra de Canaán, y se fueron de entre los hijos de Israel a la tierra de Galaad, a la tierra de sus heredades donde se establecieron, la cual recibieron según el mandato de Yavé por medio de Moisés.

So Reuben and Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh went back, parting from the children of Israel at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their heritage which had been given to them by the Lord's order to Moses.

10 Cuando los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés llegaron a la región del Jordán que está en la tierra de Canaán, edificaron un altar de apariencia grandiosa junto al Jordán.

Now when they came to the country by Jordan in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh put up there, by Jordan, a great altar, seen from far.

11 Los hijos de Israel oyeron decir: Miren, los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés edificaron un altar en la frontera de la tierra de Canaán en la región del Jordán, en el lado de los hijos de Israel.

And news came to the children of Israel, See, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have put up an altar opposite the land of Canaan, in the country by Jordan on the side which is Israel's.

12 Cuando los hijos de Israel oyeron esto, toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel se reunió en Silo para subir a luchar contra ellos.

Then all the meeting of the children of Israel, hearing this, came together at Shiloh to go up against them to war.

13 Los hijos de Israel enviaron a Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, a la tierra de Galaad, a los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés.

And the children of Israel sent Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, to the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead,

14 También enviaron a diez jefes, un jefe de cada casa paterna de todas las tribus de Israel, cada uno de los cuales era jefe de su casa paterna entre los millares de Israel.

And with him they sent ten chiefs, one for every tribe of the children of Israel, every one of them the head of his house among the families of Israel.

15 Ellos fueron a los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés, en la tierra de Galaad, y les hablaron:

And they came to the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, to the land of Gilead, and said to them,

16 Toda la congregación de Yavé dice así: ¿Qué traición es ésta que ustedes cometieron contra el ʼElohim de Israel, al apartarse hoy de seguir a Yavé, y construírse un altar para rebelarse contra Yavé?

This is what all the meeting of the people of the Lord has said, What is this wrong which you have done against the God of Israel, turning back this day from the Lord and building an altar for yourselves, and being false to the Lord?

17 ¿No es suficiente la iniquidad de Peor, de la cual aún no fuimos limpiados hasta hoy, aunque hubo una mortandad en la congregación de Yavé?

Was not the sin of Baal-peor great enough, from which we are not clear even to this day, though punishment came on the people of the Lord,

18 ¡Ustedes se apartan hoy de seguir a Yavé! Sucederá que porque se rebelaron hoy contra Yavé, en lo futuro Él estará airado contra toda la congregación de Israel.

That now you are turned back from the Lord? and, because you are false to him today, tomorrow his wrath will be let loose on all the people of Israel.

19 Si les parece que la tierra de su posesión es impura, pásense a la tierra de la posesión de Yavé en la cual está el Tabernáculo de Yavé, y tomen posesión entre nosotros. Pero no se rebelen contra Yavé, ni se rebelen contra nosotros al edificarse un altar además del altar de Yavé, nuestro ʼElohim.

But if the land you now have is unclean, come over into the Lord's land where his House is, and take up your heritage among us: but do not be false to the Lord and to us by building yourselves an altar in addition to the altar of the Lord our God.

20 ¿No cometió Acán, hijo de Zera, un acto de infidelidad con las cosas que estaban bajo maldición, y cayó la ira sobre toda la congregación de Israel? Y aquel hombre no fue el único que pereció por su iniquidad.

Did not Achan, the son of Zerah, do wrong about the cursed thing, causing wrath to come on all the people of Israel? And not on him only came the punishment of death.

21 Entonces los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés respondieron a los jefes de los millares de Israel:

Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh said in answer to the heads of the families of Israel,

22 Yavé, ʼEL de ʼElohim, Yavé, ʼEL de ʼElohim, Él sabe, y que lo sepa ahora el mismo Israel. Si fue rebelión o traición contra Yavé, no nos salves hoy.

God, even God the Lord, God, even God the Lord, he sees, and Israel will see — if it is in pride or in sin against the Lord,

23 Si edificamos un altar para apartarnos de seguir a Yavé, para sacrificar holocausto u ofrenda sobre él, o para hacer sobre él sacrificios de paz, el mismo Yavé nos pida cuenta.

That we have made ourselves an altar, being false to the Lord, keep us not safe from death this day; and if for the purpose of offering burned offerings on it and meal offerings, or peace-offerings, let the Lord himself send punishment for it;

24 Pero ciertamente hicimos esto por preocupación, por una razón, y dijimos: En el porvenir, sus hijos pueden decir a nuestros hijos: ¿Qué tienen ustedes que hacer con Yavé, ʼElohim de Israel?

And if we have not, in fact, done this designedly and with purpose, having in our minds the fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, What have you to do with the Lord, the God of Israel?

25 Yavé puso el Jordán como frontera entre nosotros y ustedes, oh hijos de Rubén e hijos de Gad, ustedes no tienen parte en Yavé. Y así sus hijos harían que nuestros hijos dejen de temer a Yavé.

For the Lord has made Jordan a line of division between us and you, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad; you have no part in the Lord: so your children will make our children give up fearing the Lord.

26 Por tanto dijimos: Apresurémonos a edificarnos un altar, no para holocausto ni para sacrificio,

So we said, Let us now make an altar for ourselves, not for burned offerings or for the offerings of beasts:

27 sino será un testimonio entre nosotros y ustedes, y entre nuestras generaciones después de nosotros, que nosotros debemos realizar el servicio de Yavé en su presencia, con nuestras ofrendas quemadas, con nuestros sacrificios, y con nuestros sacrificios de paz, de modo que los hijos de ustedes no digan en lo futuro a nuestros hijos: Ustedes no tienen parte en Yavé.

But to be a witness between us and you, and between the future generations, that we have the right of worshipping the Lord with our burned offerings and our offerings of beasts and our peace-offerings; so that your children will not be able to say to our children in time to come, You have no part in the Lord.

28 Por tanto dijimos: Sucederá que, si ellos nos dicen esto a nosotros o a nuestras generaciones futuras, responderemos: Miren la réplica del altar de Yavé, la cual nuestros antepasados hicieron, no para holocaustos o sacrificios, sino para que sea un testigo entre nosotros y ustedes.

For we said to ourselves, If they say this to us or to future generations, then we will say, See this copy of the Lord's altar which our fathers made, not for burned offerings or offerings of beasts, but for a witness between us and you.

29 Nunca acontezca que nos rebelemos contra Yavé, o que nos apartemos hoy de seguir a Yavé al edificar un altar para holocaustos, ofrenda o sacrificio, aparte del altar de Yavé nuestro ʼElohim que está delante de su Tabernáculo.

Never let it be said that we were false to the Lord, turning back this day from him and building an altar for burned offerings and meal offerings and offerings of beasts, in addition to the altar of the Lord our God which is before his House.

30 Finees, el sacerdote, los jefes de la congregación y los jefes de los millares de Israel que estaban con él, escucharon las palabras que hablaron los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Manasés, y les pareció bien.

Then Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the meeting and the heads of the families of Israel who were with him, hearing what the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh said, were pleased.

31 Entonces Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, dijo a los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Manasés: Hoy entendemos que Yavé está entre nosotros, pues ustedes no cometieron esta rebelión contra Yavé. Así libraron a los hijos de Israel de la mano de Yavé.

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, said to the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh, Now we are certain that the Lord is among us, because you have not done this wrong against the Lord: and you have kept us from falling into the hands of the Lord.

32 Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, y los jefes volvieron de estar con los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad en la tierra de Galaad, a la tierra de Canaán, a los hijos de Israel, y les dieron la respuesta.

Then Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, and the chiefs went back from the land of Gilead, from the children of Reuben and the children of Gad, and came to the children of Israel in Canaan and gave them the news.

33 El informe agradó a los hijos de Israel, y bendijeron a ʼElohim, y no hablaron más de subir contra ellos en guerra para destruir la tierra en la cual vivían los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad.

And the children of Israel were pleased about this; and they gave praise to God, and had no more thought of going to war against the children of Reuben and the children of Gad for the destruction of their land.

34 Los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad llamaron el altar Testigo, porque es un testigo entre nosotros con respecto a que Yavé es ʼElohim.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad gave to that altar the name of Ed. For, they said, It is a witness between us that the Lord is God.
