Juan 19
1 Entonces Pilato tomó a Jesús y [lo] azotó.
Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged.
2 Los soldados trenzaron una corona de espinas, se [la] pusieron sobre su cabeza y lo cubrieron con un manto de color púrpura.
The soldiers twisted thorns into a crown and put it on His head, and they put a purple robe on Him.
3 Se acercaban a Él y le decían: ¡Honores, Rey de los judíos! Y le daban bofetadas.
They kept coming up to Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and slapping Him on the face.
4 Pilato salió otra vez y les dijo: Aquí se lo traigo. Sepan que no hallo delito en Él.
Pilate then went out again, and told the Jews, “Look, I’m bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no basis for a charge against Him.”
5 Cuando Jesús salió, llevaba la corona de espinas y el manto de púrpura. Y [Pilato] les dijo: ¡Aquí está el Hombre!
Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, and Pilate said to them, “Look! Here is the man!”
6 Al verlo los principales sacerdotes y los guardias gritaron: ¡Crucifícalo! ¡Crucifícalo! Pilato les dijo: ¡Tómenlo ustedes y crucifíquenlo, pues yo no hallo delito en él!
When the chief priests and officers saw Him, they shouted “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” Pilate told them, “You take Him and crucify Him, because I find no basis for a charge against Him.”
7 Los judíos le respondieron: Nosotros tenemos Ley, y según la Ley tiene que morir, porque se declaró Hijo de Dios.
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He claimed to be God’s Son.”
8 Cuando Pilato escuchó esta declaración, tuvo más temor.
When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid,
9 Entró otra vez en la residencia y preguntó a Jesús: ¿De dónde eres Tú? Pero Jesús no le respondió.
and went back into the Praetorium, and asked Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus didn’t answer him.
10 Entonces Pilato le preguntó: ¿No me hablas? ¿No sabes que tengo autoridad para soltarte y para crucificarte?
Pilate therefore asked him, “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know that I have authority to release you, and authority to crucify you?”
11 Jesús respondió: Ninguna autoridad tendrías sobre Mí si no te fuera dada de arriba. Por esto, el que me entregó a ti tiene mayor pecado.
Jesus answered, “You would have no authority at all against me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered me to you has the greater sin.”
12 Por tanto Pilato procuraba soltarlo. Pero los judíos gritaron: ¡Si sueltas a Éste, no eres amigo de César! ¡Todo el que se proclama rey contradice a César!
From then on, Pilate tried to release Him, but the Jews shouted, “If you let this man go, you aren’t Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”
13 Después de oír estas palabras, Pilato llevó a Jesús afuera y se sentó en un tribunal, en un lugar llamado Enlosado, y en hebreo Gabbata.
Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called “The Pavement,” but in Hebrew, “Gabbatha.”
14 Eran como las 12 del día de [la] Preparación de la Pascua. Y [Pilato] dijo a los judíos: ¡Aquí está su Rey!
Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. Pilate told the Jews, “Look! Here is your King!”
15 Por tanto ellos gritaron: ¡Fuera, fuera, crucifícalo! Pilato les preguntó: ¿Que crucifique a su Rey? Los sumos sacerdotes respondieron: ¡No tenemos rey sino a César!
They therefore shouted, “Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him!” Pilate asked them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”
16 Así que [Pilato] se lo entregó para que lo crucificaran. Entonces se llevaron a Jesús.
Then Pilate delivered Jesus to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away.
17 Él mismo cargó la cruz y salió hacia el Lugar llamado Calavera, que en hebreo es Gólgota.
And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
18 Allí lo crucificaron, y a otros dos con Él, uno a cada lado, y a Jesús en el medio.
There they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, with Jesus in the center.
19 Pilato también escribió y colocó sobre la cruz un letrero: Jesús nazareno, Rey de los judíos.
Now Pilate wrote a notice, and put it on the cross. The notice said: “JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
20 Muchos de los judíos leyeron este letrero escrito en hebreo, latín y griego, porque el lugar donde Jesús fue crucificado estaba cerca de la ciudad.
Then many of the Jews read this notice, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.
21 Los principales sacerdotes de los judíos dijeron a Pilato: No escribas: Rey de los judíos, sino aquel que dijo: Soy Rey de los judíos.
Therefore the chief priests of the Jews told Pilate, “Don’t write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.”’”
22 Pilato respondió: Lo que he escrito está escrito.
Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”
23 Cuando los soldados crucificaron a Jesús, tomaron sus ropas y las repartieron en cuatro partes, una parte para cada soldado, excepto la túnica porque era sin costura tejida por completo desde arriba.
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they split His garments into four parts, to each soldier a part, including the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece.
24 Entonces se dijeron unos a otros: No la rasguemos, sino echemos suertes sobre ella [a fin de] saber de quién será, para que se cumpliera la Escritura: Se repartieron mis ropas entre ellos, Y sobre mi manto echaron suerte. Así pues, los soldados hicieron estas cosas.
Therefore they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots to see whose it will be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: “They divided my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things.
25 Delante de la cruz de Jesús estaban en pie su madre, la hermana de su madre, María, la [esposa] de Cleofas y María Magdalena.
Now Jesus’ mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood by Jesus’ cross.
26 Entonces Jesús, al ver a su madre y al discípulo a quien amaba, que estaba en pie junto a ella, dijo a su madre: ¡Mujer, ahí está tu hijo!
Therefore when Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple who He sincerely loved standing by, He told His mother, “Woman, here is your son!”
27 Después dijo al discípulo: ¡Ahí está tu madre! Desde aquella hora el discípulo la recibió en su hogar.
Then He told the disciple, “Here is your mother!” From that hour, that disciple took her into his own home.
28 Después de esto, como Jesús sabía que ya todo se había consumado, para que se cumpliera la Escritura, dijo: Tengo sed.
After this, Jesus, knowing that everything was now accomplished, so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I’m thirsty!”
29 Estaba allí una vasija llena de vinagre. Entonces sujetaron alrededor de un hisopo una esponja empapada en vinagre, y la llevaron a su boca.
A jar full of vinegar was standing there, so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on a hyssop stalk, and lifted it up to His mouth.
30 Jesús probó el vinagre y dijo: Fue consumado. Al inclinar la cabeza, entregó el espíritu.
When Jesus had received the vinegar, He said, “It is finished!” Then, He bowed His head, and gave up His spirit.
31 Entonces los judíos rogaron a Pilato que se les quebraran las piernas y fueran quitados, por cuanto era el día de [la] Preparación, para que los cuerpos no permanecieran en la cruz en sábado, pues aquel sábado era grande.
Because it was the Preparation Day, the Jews asked Pilate for the prisoners’ legs to be broken, and that they might be taken away, so that the bodies wouldn’t stay on the cross on the Sabbath (because that Sabbath was a special one).
32 Los soldados fueron y quebraron las piernas de los dos crucificados con Él.
Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man and of the other man who was crucified with Jesus,
33 Pero al llegar a Jesús, como lo vieron ya muerto, no le quebraron las piernas.
but when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they didn’t break His legs.
34 Sin embargo, uno de los soldados le abrió el costado con su lanza, y al instante salieron sangre y agua.
Instead, one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
35 El que vio da testimonio, y su testimonio es verdadero. Él sabe que dijo la verdad, para que también ustedes crean.
He who saw it has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.
36 Porque estas cosas sucedieron para que se cumpliera la Escritura: No será quebrado hueso suyo.
These things were done so that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.”
37 Además otra Escritura dice: Mirarán al que traspasaron.
Another Scripture says, “They will look on Him who they pierced.”
38 Después de estas cosas, José de Arimatea, discípulo oculto de Jesús por miedo a los judíos, pidió a Pilato el cuerpo de Jesús. Y Pilato [le] permitió. Fue y se llevó el cuerpo.
After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate if he could take the body of Jesus away; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.
39 También llegó Nicodemo, quien visitó a Jesús de noche, y llevó una mezcla de mirra y áloe como de 45 kilogramos.
Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing about a hundred Roman pounds of a mixture of myrrh and aloes.
40 Tomaron el cuerpo de Jesús y lo envolvieron en lienzos con las especias aromáticas, según es costumbre de los judíos para sepultar.
So they took the body of Jesus, and wrapped it in strips of linen with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.
41 En el lugar donde fue crucificado había un jardín y un sepulcro nuevo en el cual nadie había sido puesto.
In the place where He was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been laid.
42 Allí pusieron a Jesús por causa de la Preparación de los judíos, porque el sepulcro estaba cerca.
Because of the Jewish Preparation Day, and because the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
