Job 28
1 La plata tiene sus yacimientos, y el oro un lugar donde refinarlo.
Surely there is a mine for silver, a place where they refine gold.
2 Se saca el hierro de la tierra, y se funde el cobre de la piedra.
Iron is taken out of the earth; copper is smelted out of the stone.
3 El hombre da fin a la oscuridad y examina la piedra oscura y opaca hasta el último rincón.
A man sets an end to darkness and searches out, to the farthest limit, the stones in obscurity and thick darkness.
4 Lejos de donde vive la gente, en lugares donde el pie no pasa, abren minas. Son suspendidos y balanceados lejos de los demás hombres.
He breaks open a shaft away from where people live, places that are forgotten by anyone's foot. He hangs far away from people; he swings to and fro.
5 La tierra de la cual sale el pan, y por debajo, es trastornada como por fuego;
As for the earth, out of which comes bread, it is turned up below as if by fire.
6 es lugar donde hay piedras de zafiro y polvo de oro.
Its stones are the place where sapphires are found, and its dust contains gold.
7 Es una senda que el ave de rapiña no conoce. Jamás la vio el ojo del halcón.
No bird of prey knows the path to it, nor has the falcon's eye seen it.
8 Nunca fue pisoteada por fieras arrogantes, ni pasó por allí el león.
The proud animals have not walked such a path, nor has the fierce lion passed there.
9 El hombre alarga su mano sobre el pedernal y trastorna la raíz de las montañas.
A man lays his hand on the flinty rock; he overturns mountains by their roots.
10 Abre canales en la roca, y sus ojos ven todo lo precioso.
He cuts out channels among the rocks; his eye sees every valuable thing there.
11 Detiene los ríos en su nacimiento y hace que salga a la luz lo escondido.
He ties up the streams so they do not run; what is hidden there he brings out to the light.
12 Pero ¿dónde se halla el entendimiento? ¿Dónde está el lugar de la sabiduría?
Where will wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?
13 El hombre no conoce el valor de ella. No se halla en la tierra de los vivientes.
Man does not know its price; neither is it found in the land of the living.
14 El océano dice: No está en mí. El mar dice: No está conmigo.
The deep waters under the earth say, 'It is not in me'; the sea says, 'It is not with me.'
15 No se puede obtener con oro fino, ni por su precio se pesa la plata.
It cannot be gotten for gold; neither can silver be weighed as its price.
16 No se puede evaluar con oro de Ofir, ni con ónice precioso o con zafiro.
It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with precious onyx or sapphire.
17 El oro y los diamantes no se le igualan, ni se puede pagar con objetos de oro fino.
Gold and crystal cannot equal it in worth; neither can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
18 El coral y el cristal de roca ni se mencionen, porque el valor de la sabiduría supera al de las perlas.
No mention is worth making of coral or jasper; indeed, the price of wisdom is more than rubies.
19 El topacio de Etiopía no la iguala, ni podrá ser evaluada en oro puro.
The topaz of Cush does not equal it; neither can it be valued in terms of pure gold.
20 ¿De dónde viene la sabiduría? ¿Dónde está el lugar del entendimiento?
From where, then, comes wisdom? Where is the place of understanding?
21 Está encubierta a los ojos de todo viviente, y oculta a todas las aves del cielo.
Wisdom is hidden from the eyes of all living things and is kept hidden from the birds of the heavens.
22 El Abadón y la Muerte dicen: ¡Su fama escuchamos con nuestros oídos!
Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard just a rumor about it with our ears.'
23 ʼElohim entiende el camino de ella y conoce su lugar,
God understands the way to it; he knows its place.
24 porque contempla los confines de la tierra y ve cuanto hay debajo del cielo
For he looks to the very ends of the earth and sees under all the heavens.
25 cuando da su peso al viento y determina la medida de las aguas,
He made the force of the wind and parceled out the waters by measure.
26 cuando dicta una ley para la lluvia, y un camino para truenos y relámpagos.
He made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunder.
27 Entonces Él la vio, la declaró, la estableció y también la escudriñó,
Then he saw wisdom and announced it; he established it, indeed, and he examined it.
28 y dice al hombre: Ciertamente el temor a ʼAdonay es la sabiduría, y el apartarse del mal, el entendimiento.
To people he said, 'See, the fear of the Lord—that is wisdom; to depart from evil is understanding.'”
