Job 21
1 Entonces Job respondió:
Then Job answered:
2 Escuchen con atención mis palabras, y que sea esto el consuelo que me den.
“Listen carefully to my words; let this be your consolation to me.
3 Tolérenme mientras hablo, y después que hable, búrlense.
Bear with me while I speak; then, after I have spoken, you may go on mocking.
4 ¿Me quejo ante un hombre? ¿Por qué no se debe impacientar mi espíritu?
Is my complaint against a man? Then why should I not be impatient?
5 Mírenme, asómbrense y coloquen la mano sobre su boca.
Look at me and be appalled; put your hand over your mouth.
6 Cuando lo recuerdo me asombro, y el horror estremece mi carne.
When I remember, terror takes hold, and my body trembles in horror.
7 ¿Por qué viven los perversos, envejecen y son poderosos?
Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power?
8 Sus descendientes se establecen con ellos y ante ellos. Sus hijos están ante ellos.
Their descendants are established around them, and their offspring before their eyes.
9 Sus casas están libres de temor. No tienen azote de ʼElohim sobre ellos.
Their homes are safe from fear; no rod of punishment from God is upon them.
10 Su toro fecunda sin fallar, sus vacas paren y no pierden crías.
Their bulls breed without fail; their cows bear calves and do not miscarry.
11 Sueltan a sus pequeños como manada y sus hijos andan saltando.
They send forth their little ones like a flock; their children skip about,
12 Cantan al son del tamboril y el arpa. Se regocijan con el sonido de la flauta.
singing to the tambourine and lyre and making merry at the sound of the flute.
They spend their days in prosperity and go down to Sheol in peace. (Sheol h7585)
14 Ellos dicen a ʼElohim: Apártate de nosotros. Ni siquiera deseamos el conocimiento de tus caminos.
Yet they say to God: ‘Leave us alone! For we have no desire to know Your ways.
15 ¿Quién es ʼEL-Shadday para que le sirvamos, y de qué nos aprovecha que le supliquemos?
Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him, and what would we gain if we pray to Him?’
16 Ciertamente, la prosperidad de ellos no está en sus propias manos. El consejo de los perversos esté lejos de mí.
Still, their prosperity is not in their own hands, so I stay far from the counsel of the wicked.
17 ¿Cuántas veces es apagada la lámpara de los perversos, o su calamidad cae sobre ellos, o ʼElohim les reparte destrucción en su ira?
How often is the lamp of the wicked put out? Does disaster come upon them? Does God, in His anger, apportion destruction?
18 ¿Son como concha de grano trillado llevada por el viento, y como pasto que arrebata la tormenta?
Are they like straw before the wind, like chaff swept away by a storm?
19 Ustedes dicen: ʼElohim guarda la perversidad del hombre para sus hijos. ¡Que ʼElohim le retribuya para que aprenda!
It is said that God lays up one’s punishment for his children. Let God repay the man himself, so he will know it.
20 ¡Vean sus ojos su ruina, y beba él mismo de la ira de ʼEL-Shadday!
Let his eyes see his own destruction; let him drink for himself the wrath of the Almighty.
21 Pues después que muera y acabe la cuenta de sus meses, ¿qué le importa su familia?
For what does he care about his household after him, when the number of his months has run out?
22 ¿Puede alguno enseñar conocimientos a ʼElohim, puesto que Él juzga a los que están en las alturas?
Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since He judges those on high?
23 Un hombre muere en la plenitud de su vigor, completamente tranquilo y en paz,
One man dies full of vigor, completely secure and at ease.
24 con las cavidades internas llenas de grasa y la médula de sus huesos bien nutrida.
His body is well nourished, and his bones are rich with marrow.
25 Otro muere con el alma amargada, sin comer jamás con gusto.
Yet another man dies in the bitterness of his soul, having never tasted prosperity.
26 Juntamente están tendidos en el polvo, y los gusanos los cubren.
But together they lie down in the dust, and worms cover them both.
27 Ciertamente conozco los pensamientos de ustedes, y sus estratagemas contra mí.
Behold, I know your thoughts full well, the schemes by which you would wrong me.
28 Sé que dicen: ¿Dónde está la casa del que era poderoso, y la vivienda en la cual vivían los perversos?
For you say, ‘Where now is the nobleman’s house, and where are the tents in which the wicked dwell?’
29 ¿Por qué no lo preguntan a los viajeros, ni han consultado su respuesta?
Have you never asked those who travel the roads? Do you not accept their reports?
30 Porque el perverso es preservado en el día de la calamidad, y se lo excluye del día de la ira.
Indeed, the evil man is spared from the day of calamity, delivered from the day of wrath.
31 ¿Quién le denuncia en la cara su camino? Y lo que hizo, ¿quién se lo retribuye?
Who denounces his behavior to his face? Who repays him for what he has done?
32 Porque es conducido al sepulcro, y sobre su tumba se hará vigilancia,
He is carried to the grave, and watch is kept over his tomb.
33 y junto a la tumba magnífica se monta guardia. Así, tras él, todo el mundo desfila, y adelante de él, otros sinnúmero.
The clods of the valley are sweet to him; everyone follows behind him, and those before him are without number.
34 ¿Cómo pueden ustedes consolarme con palabras vacías y fútiles, puesto que en sus respuestas solo hay falsedad?
So how can you comfort me with empty words? For your answers remain full of falsehood.”
