Jeremías 37
1 En lugar de Conías, hijo de Joacim, reinó Sedequías, hijo de Josías, al cual Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, constituyó como rey en la tierra de Judá.
And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
2 Pero ni él, ni sus esclavos, ni el pueblo de la tierra escucharon las Palabras que Yavé habló por medio del profeta Jeremías.
But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.
3 El rey Sedequías envió a Jucal, hijo de Selemías, y a Sofonías, hijo del sacerdote Maasías, para que dijeran al profeta Jeremías: Intercede ahora por nosotros ante Yavé nuestro ʼElohim.
And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.
4 En ese entonces Jeremías entraba y salía en medio del pueblo, porque aún no lo habían encerrado en la cárcel.
Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.
5 Entonces el ejército de Faraón había salido de Egipto, y al llegar la noticia a oídos de los caldeos que tenían sitiada a Jerusalén, se retiraron de ella.
And Pharaoh’s army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they brake up from Jerusalem.
6 Entonces vino la Palabra de Yavé al profeta Jeremías:
Then came the word of the LORD unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
7 Yavé ʼElohim de Israel dice: Dirás esto al rey de Judá, quien los envió a Mí para que me consultaran: Mira, el ejército de Faraón que salió a socorrerte regresó a su tierra en Egipto.
Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to inquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
8 Los caldeos regresarán y atacarán esta ciudad. La tomarán y la incendiarán.
And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire.
9 Yavé dice: No se engañen ustedes mismos, al decir: Ciertamente los caldeos se apartarán de nosotros, porque no se apartarán.
Thus saith the LORD: Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.
10 Porque aun si ustedes hubieran derrotado a todo el ejército de los caldeos que luchaba contra ustedes, y hubieran dejado hombres heridos entre ustedes, cada uno en su tienda, estos se levantarían y consumirían con fuego esta ciudad.
For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
11 Aconteció que, cuando el ejército caldeo se retiró de Jerusalén a causa del ejército de Faraón,
And it came to pass that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
12 Jeremías salió de Jerusalén hacia el territorio de Benjamín para tomar posesión de una herencia entre su pueblo.
then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.
13 Mientras él estaba en la puerta de Benjamín, estaba allí un capitán llamado Irías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Hananías, el cual apresó al profeta Jeremías y le dijo: Te pasas a los caldeos.
And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
14 Jeremías respondió: Falso, no me paso a los caldeos. Pero él no lo quiso escuchar. Agarró a Jeremías y lo llevó ante los magistrados.
Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans; but he hearkened not to him: so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
15 Los magistrados se airaron contra Jeremías y lo azotaron. Lo llevaron a la cárcel en la casa del escriba Jonatán, pues la habían convertido en cárcel.
And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
16 Así que Jeremías fue llevado a un calabozo en una mazmorra, y allí estuvo muchos días.
When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
17 El rey Sedequías mandó a buscarlo. Tan pronto como estuvo en su casa, le preguntó en secreto: ¿Hay Palabra de Yavé? Jeremías respondió: Hay. Y añadió: Serás entregado en mano del rey de Babilonia.
Then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is. He said also, Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
18 Además, Jeremías dijo al rey Sedequías: ¿Pequé contra ti, contra tus esclavos, o contra este pueblo para que me metieras en la cárcel?
Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, Wherein have I sinned against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?
19 ¿Dónde están tus profetas que les profetizaban: El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra ustedes, ni contra esta tierra?
Where now are your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
20 Pero ahora, oh rey, ʼadón mío, te ruego que me escuches. Permite que mi súplica llegue ante ti, y no me devuelvas a casa del escriba Jonatán para que no muera allí.
And now hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
21 Entonces el rey Sedequías ordenó que custodiaran a Jeremías en el patio de la guardia real, y que le dieran una hogaza de pan diariamente de la calle de los Panaderos, mientras hubiera pan en la ciudad. Por tanto Jeremías permaneció en el patio de la guardia real.
Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard, and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
