Jeremías 3

1 Dicen: Si un esposo repudia a su esposa, y ella se va de él y se une a otro esposo, ¿regresará el primero a ella? ¿No quedará esa tierra completamente contaminada? Pero tú eres una prostituta que tienes muchos amantes, como un árabe en el desierto. Sin embargo, regresa a Mí, dice Yavé.

...saying: If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, may he return unto her again? Will not that land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; and wouldest thou yet return to Me? saith the LORD.

2 Levanta tus ojos hacia las alturas y mira en cuál lugar no se acostaron contigo. Te sientas en los caminos a la disposición de ellos, como un árabe en el desierto. Con tu prostitución y tu perversidad contaminaste la tierra.

Lift up thine eyes unto the high hills, and see: Where hast thou not been lain with? By the ways hast thou sat for them, as an Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy harlotries and with thy wickedness.

3 Por tanto, las lluvias fueron retenidas, no hubo lluvias tardías. Sin embargo, tuviste el descaro de prostituta. Te negaste a avergonzarte.

Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there hath been no latter rain; yet thou hadst a harlot's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

4 ¿Ahora mismo no me llamas: Padre mío? ¿Tú eres el Amigo de mi juventud?

Didst thou not just now cry unto Me: 'My father, Thou art the friend of my youth.

5 ¿Estará Él airado para siempre? ¿Eternamente estará airado? Ciertamente tú hablaste así, pero hiciste cuantas cosas perversas pudiste.

Will He bear grudge for ever? Will He keep it to the end?' Behold, thou hast spoken, but hast done evil things, and hast had thy way.

6 En los días del rey Josías Yavé me dijo: ¿Viste lo que hace la apóstata Israel? Ella sube a toda montaña alta y fornica debajo de todo árbol frondoso.

And the LORD said unto me in the days of Josiah the king: 'Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel did? she went up upon every high mountain and under every leafy tree, and there played the harlot.

7 Después de hacer todo esto, me dije: Regresará a Mí, pero no regresó. Y Judá, su pérfida hermana,

And I said: After she hath done all these things, she will return unto me; but she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

8 vio que Yo despedí a la apóstata Israel por sus adulterios y que le di carta de divorcio. Y aun así, Judá, su pérfida hermana, no tuvo temor. También ella fue y se prostituyó.

And I saw, when, forasmuch as backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, that yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot;

9 Sucedió que a causa de que su prostitución le era liviana, se prostituyó con la piedra y con el leño, y profanó la tierra.

and it came to pass through the lightness of her harlotry, that the land was polluted, and she committed adultery with stones and with stocks;

10 Ni a pesar de todo esto su hermana Judá regresó a Mí con corazón sincero, sino fingidamente, dice Yavé.

and yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not returned unto Me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD —

11 Yavé me dijo: La infiel Israel se mostró más justa que la pérfida Judá.

even the LORD said unto me — backsliding Israel hath proved herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

12 Vé, proclama estas palabras hacia el norte: ¡Regresa, oh apóstata Israel! dice Yavé. No derramaré mi ira sobre ustedes, porque soy misericordioso, dice Yavé. No estaré airado para siempre.

Go, and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; I will not frown upon you; for I am merciful, saith the LORD, I will not bear grudge for ever.

13 Solo reconoce tu iniquidad, porque contra Yavé tu ʼElohim cometiste transgresión. Abriste tus favores a extraños debajo de todo árbol frondoso y no obedeciste mi voz, dice Yavé.

Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every leafy tree, and ye have not hearkened to My voice, saith the LORD.

14 Regresen, oh hijos rebeldes, dice Yavé, porque Yo soy su Dueño. Los tomaré, uno de cada ciudad y dos de cada familia, y los traeré a Sion.

Return, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am a lord unto you, and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion;

15 Les daré pastores según mi corazón, que los pastoreen con conocimiento y entendimiento.

and I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

16 Sucederá que cuando se multipliquen e incrementen en la tierra, en aquellos días, dice Yavé, ya no hablarán del Arca del Pacto de Yavé, ni les llegará al pensamiento, ni se acordarán más de ella, ni les hará falta, ni se hará otra.

And it shall come to pass, when ye are multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more: The ark of the covenant of the LORD; neither shall it come to mind; neither shall they make mention of it; neither shall they miss it; neither shall it be made any more.

17 En aquel tiempo Jerusalén será llamada Trono de Yavé. Serán reunidas todas las naciones en ella, pues el Nombre de Yavé estará en Jerusalén. Ya no andarán en la terquedad de su perverso corazón.

At that time they shall call Jerusalem The throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem; neither shall they walk any more after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

18 En aquellos días la Casa de Judá andará con la Casa de Israel. Llegarán juntas desde la tierra del norte a la tierra que di en posesión a sus antepasados.

In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.'

19 Entonces me dije: ¿Cómo los pondré a ustedes entre mis hijos para darles la tierra agradable, la más hermosa heredad de las naciones? Y dije: Me llamarás Padre mío y no te apartarás de Mí.

But I said: 'How would I put thee among the sons, and give thee a pleasant land, the goodliest heritage of the nations!' And I said: 'Thou shalt call Me, My father; and shalt not turn away from following Me.'

20 Ciertamente como la esposa infiel abandona a su esposo, así ustedes me trataron infielmente, oh Casa de Israel, dice Yavé.

Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.

21 El llanto suplicante de los hijos de Israel fue oído sobre las altas montañas, porque torcieron su camino. Se olvidaron de Yavé su ʼElohim.

Hark! upon the high hills is heard the suppliant weeping of the children of Israel; for that they have perverted their way, they have forgotten the LORD their God.

22 Regresen, oh hijos infieles, sanaré sus infidelidades. ¡Aquí estamos! Venimos a Ti, porque Tú, oh Yavé, eres nuestro ʼElohim.

Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings. — 'Here we are, we are come unto Thee; for Thou art the LORD our God.

23 Ciertamente las colinas y el bullicio en las montañas fueron un engaño. Ciertamente en Yavé nuestro ʼElohim está la salvación de Israel.

Truly vain have proved the hills, the uproar on the mountains; truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

24 Lo vergonzoso consumió el esfuerzo de nuestros antepasados desde nuestra juventud: sus rebaños y sus manadas de ganado vacuno, sus hijos y sus hijas.

But the shameful thing hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

25 Estamos tendidos en nuestra vergüenza. Nuestra afrenta nos cubre porque pecamos contra Yavé nuestro ʼElohim. Nosotros y nuestros antepasados desde nuestra juventud hasta hoy no obedecimos la voz de Yavé nuestro ʼElohim.

Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not hearkened to the voice of the LORD our God.'
