Jeremías 16

1 Entonces la Palabra de Yavé vino a mí:

The word of Jehovah came to me, saying:

2 No tomarás esposa para ti. No tendrás hijos ni hijas en este lugar.

Take thee not a wife; Have no sons or daughters in this place!

3 Porque con respecto a los hijos e hijas que nazcan en este lugar, a las madres que los den a luz y de los padres que los engendren en esta tierra, Yavé dice:

For thus saith Jehovah concerning the sons and the daughters That are born in this place, And concerning their mothers that bore them, And concerning their fathers that begat them in this land;

4 Morirán de muerte cruel. No serán llorados ni sepultados. Serán como abono sobre la superficie de la tierra. Serán consumidos por la espada y el hambre. Sus cadáveres servirán de comida para las aves del cielo y las bestias de la tierra.

By deadly diseases shall they die; They shall not be lamented nor buried; They shall become dung upon the face of the earth; By the sword also and by famine shall they be consumed, And their carcasses shall be food for the birds of heaven And the beasts of the earth.

5 Yavé dice: No entres en casa del duelo, ni vayas a lamentar, ni los consueles, porque retiré de este pueblo mi paz, mi misericordia y mi compasión, dice Yavé.

For thus saith Jehovah: Enter not into the house of wailing; Go not to lament; Comfort them not! For I have taken away my peace from this people, saith Jehovah, My kindness and mercy.

6 En esta tierra morirán grandes y pequeños. No serán sepultados ni los llorarán, ni por ellos se harán incisiones, ni se raparán la cabeza,

The great and the small in this land shall die; They shall not be buried nor lamented; No one shall cut himself for them, Nor shall any one make himself bald for them.

7 ni saldrán con pan para consolar a los que estén de luto por ellos, ni les darán la copa de consuelo por su padre o por su madre.

Men shall not break bread for them in their grief, To comfort them for the dead, Nor give them the cup of consolation to drink, On account of a lost father or mother.

8 Tampoco entres en la casa del banquete para sentarte a comer y beber con ellos.

Neither enter thou into the house of feasting, To sit down with them to eat and to drink!

9 Porque Yavé de las huestes, ʼElohim de Israel, dice: Ciertamente Yo suspendo en este lugar, en los días de ustedes y ante ustedes, toda voz de gozo y toda voz de alegría, la voz del novio y la de la novia.

For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am about to cause to cease from this place, Before your eyes, in your days, The voice of joy and the voice of mirth, The voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

10 Acontecerá que cuando anuncies a este pueblo todas estas cosas, te preguntarán: ¿Por qué Yavé pronuncia contra nosotros todo este mal tan grande? ¿Cuáles delitos o pecados cometimos contra Yavé nuestro ʼElohim?

And when thou shalt have declared to this people all these things, and they shall say to thee, “Why hath Jehovah pronounced against us all this great evil? What is our iniquity, and what our sin, which we have committed against Jehovah our God?”

11 Entonces les dirás: Porque sus antepasados me abandonaron, dice Yavé, fueron tras otros ʼelohim, se postraron ante ellos y les sirvieron. Pero a Mí me abandonaron y no observaron mi Ley.

Then shalt thou say to them: Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith Jehovah, And have walked after strange gods, And have served them and worshipped them, And have forsaken me, and not kept my law.

12 Ustedes actuaron peor que sus antepasados, porque en verdad cada uno de ustedes sigue lo que le dicta su malvado corazón de tal modo que no me escucha.

And ye yourselves have done worse than your fathers; For, behold, ye walk every one after the perverseness of his evil heart, And do not hearken to me.

13 Los echaré de esta tierra a una tierra que ustedes ni sus antepasados conocieron. Allá servirán a ʼelohim extraños día y noche, porque no les mostraré clemencia.

Therefore will I cast you forth from this land Into a land unknown to you and to your fathers; And there shall ye serve strange gods day and night; For I will show you no favor.

14 Pero, ciertamente vienen días, dice Yavé, cuando ya no se dirá: ¡Vive Yavé, Quien sacó a los hijos de Israel de la tierra de Egipto!

Yet behold the days shall come, saith Jehovah, When men shall no more say, “As Jehovah liveth Who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,”

15 Sino: ¡Vive Yavé, que sacó a los hijos de Israel de la tierra del norte y de todas las tierras adonde los echó! Porque los devolveré a su tierra, la cual di a sus antepasados.

But, “As Jehovah liveth Who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the North, And from all the lands whither he had driven them.” For I will bring them again into their own land, Which I gave to their fathers.

16 Miren, enviaré muchos pescadores que los pesquen, dice Yavé. Después enviaré muchos cazadores que los cacen por las montañas y colinas, y por las hendiduras de las peñas.

Behold, I will send many fishers, saith Jehovah, who shall fish them, And then will I send many hunters who shall hunt them From every mountain, and from every hill, and from the holes of the rocks.

17 Porque mis ojos están sobre todos sus caminos. No se me ocultarán, ni su iniquidad está encubierta de mis ojos.

For mine eyes are upon all their ways; They are not concealed from my view, Nor is their iniquity hidden from mine eyes.

18 Pero primero les pagaré al doble su iniquidad y su pecado, porque contaminaron mi tierra con los cadáveres de sus ídolos y llenaron mi heredad con sus repugnancias.

And I will requite their former and their repeated iniquities and sins, Because they have polluted my land with carcasses offered to their idols, And filled my inheritance with their abominable things.

19 Oh Yavé, Fuerza mía y Fortaleza mía, mi Refugio en tiempo de aflicción. A ti vendrán las naciones desde los extremos de la tierra y dirán: En verdad, nuestros antepasados heredaron mentira, vanidad en la cual no hay provecho.

O Jehovah, my strength and my fortress, My refuge in the day of distress! To thee shall the nations come from the ends of the earth, And shall say, “Truly our fathers inherited delusion, Vain and unprofitable things.

20 ¿El hombre se fabrica ʼelohim? ¡Pero esos no son ʼelohim!

Shall one make for himself gods Which are no gods?”

21 Por tanto ciertamente, esta vez les mostraré mi poder y mi fortaleza. Sabrán que mi nombre es Yavé.

Therefore, behold, I will this time cause them to feel, I will cause them to feel my hand and my might, And they shall know that my name is Jehovah.
