Jeremías 13

1 Yavé me dijo: Vé, cómprate un cinturón de lino y átalo a tu cintura, pero no lo metas en agua.

Thus says the LORD unto me, Go and get you a linen girdle, and put it upon your loins, and put it not in water.

2 Compré el cinturón, conforme a la Palabra de Yavé, y lo até a mi cintura.

So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

3 Entonces la Palabra de Yavé vino a mí por segunda vez:

And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

4 Toma el cinturón que compraste, que está en tu cintura, y levántate, vé al Éufrates. Escóndelo allí en la hendidura de una peña.

Take the girdle that you have got, which is upon your loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

5 Fui y lo escondí junto al Éufrates, como Yavé me ordenó.

So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

6 Y después de muchos días Yavé me dijo: Levántate, vé al Éufrates y toma de allí el cinturón que te mandé que escondieras allá.

And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded you to hide there.

7 Fui al Éufrates y cavé. Tomé el cinturón del lugar donde lo escondí. Ciertamente el cinturón se pudrió y no servía para algo.

Then I went to Euphrates, and dug, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was ruined, it was profitable for nothing.

8 Entonces la Palabra de Yavé vino a mí:

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

9 Yavé dice: Así ordené que se pudra la soberbia de Judá y la gran soberbia de Jerusalén.

Thus says the LORD, After this manner will I ruin the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 Este pueblo perverso que rehúsa escuchar mis Palabras, que anda en la terquedad de su corazón y va tras otros ʼelohim para servirles y postrarse ante ellos, será como este cinturón que es completamente inútil.

This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

11 Porque como el cinturón se adhiere a la cintura de un hombre, así establecí que se adhiera a Mí toda la Casa de Israel y toda la Casa de Judá, dice Yavé, para que fuera mi pueblo, mi renombre, mi alabanza y mi gloria. Pero ellos no escucharon.

For as the girdle cleaves to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, says the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

12 Entonces les dirás esta Palabra: Yavé, el ʼElohim de Israel dice: Todo cántaro será llenado con vino. Y ellos te preguntarán: ¿No sabemos ciertamente que todo cántaro será llenado con vino?

Therefore you shall speak unto them this word; Thus says the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto you, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

13 Entonces les contestarás: Yavé dice: Miren, Yo lleno de embriaguez a todos los habitantes de esta tierra, a los reyes de la descendencia de David que se sientan sobre el trono, a los sacerdotes, a los profetas y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén.

Then shall you say unto them, Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

14 Los quebrantaré unos contra otros, padres contra hijos a la vez, dice Yavé. No perdonaré ni tendré compasión, ni misericordia para no destruirlos.

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

15 Oigan y presten atención. No sean altivos, porque Yavé habló.

Hear all of you, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD has spoken.

16 Den gloria a Yavé su ʼElohim antes que Él traiga oscuridad, antes que sus pies tropiecen contra montañas de oscuridad, y Él convierta la luz que esperan en densa oscuridad.

Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while all of you look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

17 Pero si no escuchan esto, mi alma llorará en secreto a causa de la soberbia de ustedes. Mis ojos llorarán amargamente porque el rebaño de Yavé será llevado cautivo.

But if all of you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is carried away captive.

18 Dí al rey y a la reina madre: Humíllense. Siéntense en la tierra, porque la corona de su gloria cayó de sus cabezas.

Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

19 Las ciudades del Neguev fueron cerradas, y no hay quien las abra. Todo Judá es llevado al exilio, totalmente llevado en cautiverio.

The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

20 Levanta tus ojos y mira a los que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está el rebaño que te fue dado, tu bello rebaño?

Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given you, your beautiful flock?

21 ¿Qué dirás cuando él designe como jefes a aquellos a quienes tú enseñaste? ¿No se apoderarán de ti dolores como de parturienta?

What will you say when he shall punish you? for you have taught them to be captains, and as chief over you: shall not sorrows take you, as a woman in travail?

22 Cuando digas en tu corazón: ¿Por qué me sucede esto? Por tu gran iniquidad fueron levantadas tus faldas y desnudados tus talones.

And if you say in your heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of your iniquity are your skirts discovered, and your heels made bare.

23 ¿Cambiará el etíope su piel, o el leopardo sus manchas? Así también ustedes no podrán hacer lo bueno, por estar acostumbrados a hacer lo malo.

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may all of you also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

24 Por tanto Yo los esparciré como el pasto seco que pasa con el viento del desierto.

Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passes away by the wind of the wilderness.

25 Ésta es tu parte, la cantidad que medí para ti, dice Yavé, porque te olvidaste de Mí y confiaste en la mentira.

This is your lot, the portion of your measures from me, says the LORD; because you have forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

26 Por tanto Yo también levantaré tus faldas y las alzaré sobre tu cara, para que sea vista tu vergüenza,

Therefore will I discover your skirts upon your face, that your shame may appear.

27 tus adulterios, tus lujuriosos relinchos, y la perversidad de tu fornicación. Vi todas tus repugnancias sobre las colinas y en el campo. ¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! ¿Hasta cuándo no te purificas?

I have seen your adulteries, and your neighings, the lewdness of your whoredom, and your abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto you, O Jerusalem! will you not be made clean? when shall it once be?
