Isaías 8
1 Yavé me dijo: Toma para ti una tabla grande y escribe en ella con letra legible: Pronto saqueo. Rápido botín.
And Jehovah said to me, Take thee a great tablet, and with a man's writing-instrument write on it, Hasteth-the-prey, Speedeth-the-spoil.
2 Yo me tomé como testigos fieles al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías, hijo de Jeberequías.
And I took with me faithful witnesses, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah, the son of Berechiah.
3 Me uní entonces a la profetisa, la cual concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Yavé me dijo: Llámalo. Pronto saqueo. Rápido botín.
I went in to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Then said Jehovah to me, Call his name, Hasteth-the-prey, Speedeth-the-spoil.
4 Porque antes que el niño aprenda a decir papá y mamá, la riqueza de Damasco y los despojos de Samaria serán llevados al rey de Asiria.
For before the child shall learn to say, My father, and My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be borne away before the king of Assyria.
5 Otra vez Yavé volvió a hablarme:
Moreover, Jehovah spake to me again, saying:
6 Por cuanto este pueblo desprecia las aguas de Siloé que corren mansamente y se regocija con Rezín y el hijo de Remalías,
Because this people despiseth The soft-flowing waters of Siloah, And rejoiceth in Rezin, and the son of Remaliah,
7 por tanto, ciertamente ʼAdonay trae sobre ellos las aguas impetuosas y poderosas del río, es decir, al rey de Asiria con todo su esplendor, el cual subirá sobre todos sus ríos y pasará sobre todas sus riberas.
Therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth upon them the strong and mighty waters of the river; [[The king of Assyria and all his glory.]] He shall rise above all his channels, And go over all his banks.
8 Luego pasará hasta Judá, inundará y pasará adelante, hasta la garganta, y al desplegar sus alas, cubrirá la anchura de tu tierra, ¡oh Emanuel!
And he shall pass through Judah, overflowing and spreading; Even to the neck shall he reach, And his stretched-out wings shall fill the whole breadth of thy land, O Immanuel!
9 Quebrántense, oh pueblos, y sean destrozados. Presten oído, todos los que son de lejanas tierras: Ármense, pero serán derrotados. ¡Prepárense para la guerra, pero serán vencidos!
Rage, ye nations, and despair! Give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth! Gird yourselves, and despair! Gird yourselves, and despair!
10 Tracen un plan, y fracasará. Expresen palabra, pero no se cumplirá por causa de Emanuel.
Form your plan, and it shall come to naught; Give the command, and it shall not stand; For God is with us.
11 Así Yavé me habló con mano fuerte y me instruyó para que no ande por el camino de este pueblo:
For thus spake Jehovah to me with a strong hand, Instructing me not to walk in the way of this people:
12 No llames conspiración lo que este pueblo llama conspiración, ni temas a lo que ellos temen y de lo cual se atemorizan.
Call not everything a confederacy which this people calleth a confederacy; Fear ye not what they fear, Neither be afraid!
13 ¡A Yavé de las huestes santifica! ¡Sea Él tu temor y tu pavor!
Jehovah of hosts, sanctify ye him; Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread!
14 Él será tu santuario, pero será piedra de tropiezo y roca de caída para ambas casas de Israel, red y trampa para los habitantes de Jerusalén.
And he shall be to you a sanctuary; But a stone of stumbling, and a rock to strike against, To the two houses of Israel, A trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
15 Muchos de entre ellos tropezarán, caerán y serán quebrantados. Se enredarán y quedarán presos.
And many among them shall stumble; They shall fall, and be broken; They shall be ensnared and taken.
16 Ata el testimonio y sella la Ley entre mis discípulos.
Bind up the revelation, Seal the word, with my disciples!
17 Esperaré a Yavé, Quien escondió su rostro de la casa de Jacob. A Él esperaré,
I will, therefore, wait for Jehovah, Who now hideth his face from the house of Jacob; Yet will I look for him.
18 ciertamente, yo y los hijos que Yavé me dio como señales y prodigios en Israel de parte de Yavé de las huestes, Quien mora en la Montaña Sion.
Behold, I, and the children which Jehovah hath given me, Are signs and tokens in Israel From Jehovah of hosts, who dwelleth upon mount Zion.
19 Si les dicen: Consulten a los que evocan a los muertos y a los adivinos que hablan entre dientes y susurran, respondan: ¿No consultará el pueblo a su ʼElohim? ¿Consultará a los muertos por los vivos?
And when they shall say to you, “Inquire of the necromancers and the wizards, That chirp, and that murmur,” [[Then say ye, ]] “Should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead for the living?”
20 ¡A la Ley y al testimonio! Si no dicen conforme a esta Palabra, no les amaneció.
To the word, to the revelation! If they speak not according to this, For them no bright morning shall arise.
21 Pasarán por la tierra fatigados y hambrientos. Sucederá que cuando tengan hambre y alcen la vista, se airarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su ʼElohim.
They shall pass through the land distressed and famished; And when they are famished, they shall be enraged, and curse their king and their God, And look upward.
22 Mirarán la tierra. Allí habrá tribulación, oscuridad, angustia y tenebrosidad. Serán sumidos en la tenebrosidad.
And if they look to the earth, Behold distress and darkness, fearful darkness! And into darkness shall they be driven.
