Isaías 47
1 Baja, siéntate en el polvo, oh virgen hija de Babilonia. Siéntate en el suelo sin trono, oh hija de los caldeos, porque ya no serás llamada tierna y delicada.
Go down and sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, daughter of Babylonia! No longer will people call you gentle and delicate.
2 Toma las piedras del molino y muele el grano. Quítate tu velo y despójate de tu ropa larga. Descubre piernas y cruza los ríos.
Go to work grinding flour with millstones. Remove your veil. Strip off your skirt, bare your legs, wade through rivers.
3 Que se descubra tu desnudez y se vea tu vergüenza. Tomaré venganza y no habrá quien interceda.
You will be seen naked; what should be kept private will be shamefully exposed. I will take vengeance—I won't spare anyone.
4 Nuestro Redentor, cuyo Nombre es Yavé de las huestes, el Santo de Israel, dice:
Our Redeemer—his name is the Lord Almighty—is the Holy One of Israel.
5 Siéntate y calla. Entra en la oscuridad, oh hija de los caldeos, porque nunca más te volverán a llamar soberana de reinos.
Sit quietly, and go into the darkness, daughter of Babylonia. Never again will you be called queen of all kingdoms.
6 Airado contra mi pueblo, profané mi heredad y la entregué en tu mano. No tuviste compasión de ellos. Pusiste un yugo muy pesado sobre los ancianos
I was angry with my people, and I abandoned those who belonged to me. I handed them over to you. But you didn't show them mercy—you even mistreated old people.
7 y dijiste: Seré una reina para siempre. Estas cosas hiciste sin considerar ni recordar el posterior resultado de ellas.
You said, “I will reign forever as the eternal queen.” But you didn't think about what was coming; you didn't remember what would happen to you in the end.
8 Ahora pues, escucha esto, oh mujer sensual que vives confiadamente y dices en tu corazón: Yo soy y ninguno hay además de mí. No quedaré viuda, ni experimentaré la pérdida de hijos.
Now listen to this, you sensual woman, sitting there so sure of yourself, saying to yourself, “I am supreme—there's nobody besides me. I shall never be a widow or experience the loss of my children.”
9 Estas dos cosas te vendrán de repente en un mismo día: viudez y pérdida de hijos, a pesar de la multitud de tus hechicerías y de tus numerosos encantamientos.
But both these things will happen to you in quick succession! In just one day you will lose your children and become a widow. You will have this experience in its totality, in spite of all your witchcraft, in spite of all your magic spells.
10 Porque te confiaste en tu maldad y dijiste: Nadie me ve. Tu sabiduría y tu misma ciencia te engañaron. Dijiste en tu corazón: Yo y nadie más.
You put your trust in your evil actions, saying “No one can see what I'm doing.” Your wisdom and knowledge seduced you, and you told yourself, “I am supreme—there's nobody besides me.”
11 Vendrá sobre ti un mal que no podrás conjurar. De repente caerá sobre ti una destrucción de la cual no sabes.
Evil is going to strike you, and you won't be able to magic it away. Disaster will fall on you that you can't stop by paying a ransom. Destruction will suddenly hit you that you weren't expecting.
12 Persiste ahora en tus encantamientos y en tus numerosas hechicerías, con las cuales te desvelaste desde tu juventud. Quizás puedas sacar algún provecho, quizás puedas ocasionar terror.
So keep going with your magic spells and all your witchcraft, which you have worked at since you were young. Maybe you'll be successful, maybe you'll terrify people!
13 Estás agotada con tus numerosos consejos. ¡Que se levanten los astrónomos, los que observan las estrellas y los pronosticadores mensuales, y que te salven de lo que vendrá sobre ti!
All the advice you've received has worn you out! Where are your astrologers, those who look to the stars for guidance, who give you their predictions every month? Let them stand up and save you from what's coming down on you!
14 Ciertamente serán como pasto seco, y el fuego los consumirá. No podrán librar su vida del poder de las llamas. No quedarán brasas para calentarse, ni lumbre ante la cual se sienten.
But look at them! They're like stubble that fire burns up completely—they can't even save their own lives from the flames. This is no fire to sit beside and grow warm!
15 Así fueron para ti aquellos con quienes te afanaste, aquellos con quienes trataste desde tu juventud. Andarán errantes, cada uno vagará por su lado. No habrá quien te salve.
All those people you've worked with, all those you've traded with from when you were young—they will all go their own way, nobody will come and save you.
