Isaías 42

1 Aquí está mi Esclavo a Quien Yo sostengo, mi Escogido, en Quien se complace mi alma. Puse mi Espíritu sobre Él. Él traerá la justicia a las naciones.

Behold my servant, whom I uphold, My chosen, in whom my soul delighteth, I have put my spirit upon him; He shall cause law to go forth to the nations.

2 No gritará, ni alzará su voz, ni la hará oír por las calles.

He shall not cry aloud, nor lift up his voice, Nor cause it to be heard in the street.

3 No partirá la caña quebrada, ni apagará el pabilo que humea. Ejecutará fielmente justo juicio.

The bruised reed shall he not break, And the glimmering flax shall he not quench; He shall send forth law according to truth.

4 No se cansará, ni desfallecerá, hasta que establezca la justicia en la tierra. En su enseñanza confiarán las costas.

He shall not fail, nor become weary, Until he shall have established justice in the earth. And distant nations shall wait for his law.

5 ʼEL, el Yavé, Quien crea los cielos y los despliega, Quien extendió la tierra y todo lo que en ella brota, Quien da aliento a la gente que la habita y espíritu a los que caminan en ella, dice:

Thus saith God Jehovah, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth, and that which springeth forth from it, Who gave breath to the people upon it, And spirit to them that walk thereon:

6 Yo, Yavé, te llamé en justicia y te sostendré de la mano. Te guardaré y te estableceré como Pacto para el pueblo, como Luz de los gentiles,

I, Jehovah, have called thee for salvation; I will hold thee by the hand; I will defend thee, and make thee a covenant to the people, A light to the nations;

7 para que abras los ojos de los ciegos, y saques de la cárcel a los presos y de la prisión a los que viven en oscuridad.

To open the blind eyes, To bring out the prisoners from the prison, And them that sit in darkness out of the prison-house.

8 Yo, Yavé: Éste es mi Nombre. No daré mi gloria a otro, ni mi alabanza a los ídolos.

I am Jehovah, that is my name; And my glory will I not give to another, Nor my praise to graven images.

9 Ciertamente se cumplieron las cosas primeras. Yo les anuncio cosas nuevas. Antes que salgan a la luz, Yo se las anuncio.

The former things, behold! they are come to pass, And new things do I now declare; Before they spring forth, I make them known to you.

10 Canten a Yavé un cántico nuevo, su alabanza desde el confín de la tierra, de los que navegan en el mar y los que viven en él, ustedes costas y los habitantes de ellas.

Sing to Jehovah a new song; His praise to the ends of the earth; Ye that go down upon the sea, and all that fill it; Ye distant coasts, and ye that dwell therein!

11 Que la región despoblada y sus aldeas levanten su voz, los pueblos donde habita Cedar. Canten jubilosos los habitantes de Sela. Desde las cimas de las montañas griten de júbilo.

Let the desert cry aloud, and the cities thereof; The villages, that Kedar inhabiteth; Let the inhabitants of the rock sing; Let them shout from the top of the mountains!

12 Tributen la gloria a Yavé. Proclamen sus alabanzas en las costas.

Let them give glory to Jehovah, And proclaim his praise in distant lands!

13 Yavé sale como valiente. Excita su ardor como guerrero, vocea y lanza un grito de guerra. Prevalecerá contra sus enemigos.

Jehovah shall march forth like a hero; Like a mighty warrior shall he rouse his indignation, He shall cry aloud; he shall shout the war-cry, And show himself mighty against his enemies.

14 Durante mucho tiempo callé. Guardé silencio y me detuve. Ahora, como la parturienta, grito desolado y trago a la vez.

“I have long held my peace; I have been still and refrained myself; But now will I cry like a woman in travail; I will destroy and swallow up at once.

15 Devastaré montañas y colinas. Marchitaré todo su verdor. Convertiré los ríos en islotes y secaré las lagunas.

I will lay waste mountains and hills, And dry up all their herbs. I will make the river solid land, And dry up the pools of water.

16 Conduciré a los ciegos por un camino que no conocieron. Andarán por senderos que no conocían. Cambiaré la oscuridad en luz delante de ellos y los lugares escabrosos en llanura. Estas cosas les haré y no los desampararé.

Then will I lead the blind in a way which they know not, And in unknown paths will I guide them; I will make darkness light before them, And crooked paths straight; These things will I do for them, and not forsake them.”

17 Pero los que confían en los ídolos retrocederán defraudados. Los que dicen a las estatuas fundidas: Ustedes son nuestros ʼelohim.

Then shall they be turned back, and be put to shame, Who trust in graven images; Who say to molten images, “Ye are our gods!”

18 Sordos, oigan y escuchen. Ciegos, vean y miren.

Hear, O ye deaf! And look, ye blind, and see!

19 ¿Quién es ciego, sino mi esclavo? ¿Quién es sordo, sino mi mensajero que envié? ¿Quién es ciego como el emisario y ciego como el esclavo de Yavé?

Who is blind, if not my servant? And who so deaf as my messenger, whom I send? Who so blind as the friend of God, So blind as the servant of Jehovah?

20 Tú ves muchas cosas, pero no las guardas. Tienes abiertos los oídos, pero no escuchas.

Thou seest many things, but regardest them not; Thou hast thine ears open, but hearest not!

21 Yavé, por causa de su justicia, se complació en magnificar la Ley.

It pleased Jehovah for his goodness' sake To give him a law, great and glorious;

22 Pero éste es un pueblo saqueado y pisoteado, todos atrapados en cavernas y encerrados en prisiones. Lo saquean, y no hay quien libre. Lo despojan, y no hay quien diga: Devuélvanlo.

And yet it is a robbed and plundered people; They are all of them bound in prisons, And hid in dungeons; They have become a spoil, and none delivereth; A prey, and none saith, “Restore!”

23 ¿Quién de ustedes oirá esto? ¿Quién atenderá y escuchará con respecto a lo que viene?

Who is there among you that will give ear to this, That will listen and attend for the time to come?

24 ¿Quién entregó a Jacob al saqueo, a Israel a los depredadores? ¿No fue Yavé, contra Quien pecamos? Ellos no quisieron andar en sus caminos, ni obedecer su Ley.

Who gave Jacob to be a spoil, And Israel to plunderers? Was it not Jehovah, against whom we sinned, In whose ways we would not walk, And whose laws we would not obey?

25 Por tanto, descargó sobre él el ardor de su ira, el furor de la guerra. Lo rodeaban sus llamas, pero no entendió. Lo consumió, pero no hizo caso.

Therefore hath he poured out upon Israel the fury of his wrath, and the violence of war; It kindled a flame around about him, yet he did not regard it; It set him on fire, yet he laid it not to heart.
