Génesis 37
1 Jacob habitó en la tierra de Canaán, la tierra de las peregrinaciones de su padre.
And Jacob dwelt in the land of his father’s sojournings, in the land of Canaan.
2 Esta es la historia de la familia de Jacob: José tenía 17 años de edad y apacentaba las ovejas con sus hermanos. El joven estaba con los hijos de Bilha y de Zilpa, concubinas de su padre. José informaba a su padre la mala fama de ellos.
These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and he was a lad with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives: and Joseph brought the evil report of them unto their father.
3 Israel amaba a José más que a todos sus hijos, porque era el hijo de su vejez. Le hizo una túnica con rayas de colores.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.
4 Sus hermanos, al ver que su padre lo prefería sobre todos ellos, lo aborrecían y no podían hablarle pacíficamente.
And his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren; and they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
5 José tuvo un sueño y lo contó a sus hermanos, con lo cual aumentaron más su odio contra él
And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.
6 pues él les dijo: Escuchen ahora este sueño que tuve.
And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:
7 Estábamos ahí en medio del campo y atábamos gavillas. Miré que mi gavilla se levantaba y seguía erguida. Y las gavillas de ustedes la rodeaban y se inclinaban ante la mía.
for, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves came round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.
8 Le respondieron sus hermanos: ¿Vas a reinar sobre nosotros y nos dominarás? Y lo odiaron aun más a causa de sus sueños y de sus palabras.
And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.
9 Tuvo otro sueño y lo contó a sus hermanos: Miren, me vino otro sueño: que el sol, la luna y once estrellas se inclinaban ante mí.
And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed yet a dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me.
10 Lo relató a su padre y a sus hermanos. Pero su padre lo reprendió y le dijo: ¿Qué fue esto que soñaste? ¿Yo, tu madre y tus hermanos nos postraremos en tierra ante ti?
And he told it to his father, and to his brethren; and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?
11 Sus hermanos le tenían envidia, pero su padre meditaba en esto.
And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the saying in mind.
12 Cuando sus hermanos apacentaban el rebaño de su padre en Siquem,
And his brethren went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem.
13 Israel dijo a José: ¿No están tus hermanos pastoreando en Siquem? Ven, te enviaré a ellos. Y él respondió: Aquí estoy dispuesto.
And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
14 E Israel le dijo: Vé ahora. Mira cómo están tus hermanos, cómo se encuentra el rebaño y tráeme un informe. Así lo envió desde el valle de Hebrón, y llegó a Siquem.
And he said to him, Go now, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flock; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
15 Un hombre lo halló cuando deambulaba por el campo y le preguntó: ¿Qué buscas?
And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?
16 Y dijo: Busco a mis hermanos. Te ruego que me digas dónde pastorean ellos.
And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they are feeding [the flock].
17 El hombre respondió: Salieron de aquí. Los oí decir: Vamos a Dotán. José fue tras sus hermanos y los halló en Dotán.
And the man said, They are departed hence: for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.
18 Cuando lo vieron de lejos, antes que se acercara, se confabularon para matarlo.
And they saw him afar off, and before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.
19 Y se dijeron el uno al otro: ¡Aquí viene el soñador!
And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.
20 Ahora pues, vamos, matémoslo y echémoslo en una cisterna, y diremos que una mala bestia lo devoró. Entonces veremos en qué pararán sus sueños.
Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into one of the pits, and we will say, An evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.
21 Cuando Rubén oyó esto, al intentar librarlo de mano de ellos, dijo: ¡No le quitemos la vida!
And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hand; and said, Let us not take his life.
22 Y Rubén añadió: No derramen sangre. Échenlo en esta cisterna que está en el desierto, pero no extiendan la mano contra él. Esto dijo a fin de librarlo de sus manos para hacerlo volver a su padre.
And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood; cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand upon him: that he might deliver him out of their hand, to restore him to his father.
23 Sucedió que cuando José llegó hasta sus hermanos, lo despojaron de su túnica, la túnica de rayas de colores que llevaba sobre él.
And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph of his coat, the coat of many colours that was on him;
24 Lo tomaron y lo echaron en la cisterna, pero la cisterna estaba vacía. No había agua en ella.
and they took him, and cast him into the pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.
25 Luego se sentaron a comer pan. Al levantar sus ojos vieron una caravana de ismaelitas que iba de Galaad, y llevaba en sus camellos especias, bálsamo y mirra para llevarlos a Egipto.
And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a travelling company of Ishmaelites came from Gilead, with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.
26 Entonces Judá preguntó a sus hermanos: ¿Qué provecho hay que matemos a nuestro hermano y ocultemos su sangre?
And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood?
27 Vendámoslo a los ismaelitas y no levantemos nuestra mano contra él, pues es nuestro hermano, nuestra carne. Y sus hermanos [le] obedecieron.
Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother, our flesh. And his brethren hearkened unto him.
28 Cuando pasaron los mercaderes madianitas, sacaron a José de la cisterna, y lo vendieron a los ismaelitas por 20 piezas de plata. Y ellos llevaron a José a Egipto.
And there passed by Midianites, merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.
29 Cuando Rubén volvió a la cisterna, no halló a José allí. Entonces rasgó sus ropas,
And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.
30 se volvió a sus hermanos y les exclamó: ¡El muchacho no está allí! ¿Y yo, a dónde iré?
And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, whither shall I go?
31 Entonces tomaron la túnica de José, degollaron un cabrito y empaparon la túnica con la sangre.
And they took Joseph’s coat, and killed a he-goat, and dipped the coat in the blood;
32 Luego enviaron la túnica de rayas de colores a su padre y dijeron: Hallamos esto. Reconoce y mira si es o no la túnica de tu hijo.
and they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be thy son’s coat or not.
33 Él la reconoció y exclamó: ¡Es la túnica de mi hijo! Alguna mala bestia lo devoró. ¡Sin duda José fue destrozado!
And he knew it, and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him; Joseph is without doubt torn in pieces.
34 Entonces Jacob rasgó sus ropas, se cubrió con tela áspera e hizo duelo por su hijo durante muchos días.
And Jacob rent his garments, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
35 Todos sus hijos e hijas se levantaron para consolarlo, pero él rehusó ser consolado y decía: ¡Descenderé enlutado hasta mi hijo en el Seol! Y su padre lloraba por él. (Sheol h7585)
And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down to the grave to my son mourning. And his father wept for him. (Sheol h7585)
36 Entre tanto, los madianitas lo vendieron en Egipto a Potifar, funcionario de Faraón, capitán de la guardia.
And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard.
