Génesis 28
1 Entonces Isaac llamó a Jacob, lo bendijo y le ordenó: No tomes esposa de las hijas de Canaán.
Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.
2 Levántate, vé a Padan-aram, a casa de Betuel, padre de tu madre, y toma allí esposa de las hijas de Labán, hermano de tu madre.
Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother.
3 ʼEL-Shadday te bendiga, te haga fructificar, te multiplique hasta llegar a ser multitud de pueblos,
May El Shaddai bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,
4 y te dé la bendición de Abraham, a ti y contigo a tu descendencia, para hacer que tomes posesión de la tierra de tus peregrinaciones, la cual ʼElohim dio a Abraham.
and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your descendants with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham."
5 Así Isaac envió a Jacob, el cual fue a Padan-aram, adonde Labán, hijo de Betuel el arameo, hermano de Rebeca, madre de Jacob y Esaú.
Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramean, Rebekah's brother, Jacob's and Esau's mother.
6 Esaú vio que Isaac bendijo a Jacob y lo envió a Padan-aram para tomar de allí esposa para él, y que, al bendecirlo, le ordenó que no tomara esposa de entre las hijas de Canaán,
Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan,"
7 y que Jacob, al obedecer a su padre y a su madre, se dirigió a Padan-aram.
and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and left for Paddan Aram.
8 Entonces Esaú comprendió que las hijas de Canaán eran desagradables a su padre Isaac.
Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac, his father.
9 Esaú fue a Ismael, y además de las que tenía, tomó para él como esposa a Mahalat, hija de Ismael, hijo de Abraham y hermana de Nebayot.
Esau went to Ishmael, and took, besides the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.
10 Jacob salió de Beerseba y se dirigió a Harán.
Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11 Cuando llegó a cierto lugar, pasó allí la noche porque ya el sol se había puesto. Tomó una piedra del lugar, la colocó como su cabecera y se tendió en aquel sitio.
He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12 Tuvo un sueño: Apareció una escalera apoyada en la tierra, cuya parte superior alcanzaba el cielo. Miró que los ángeles de ʼElohim subían y bajaban por ella.
And he dreamed. And look, a stairway was set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. And look, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
13 Y vio que Yavé estaba en pie sobre ella y dijo: Yo soy Yavé, ʼElohim de tu padre Abraham y ʼElohim de Isaac. La tierra sobre la cual estás tendido te la daré a ti y a tus descendientes.
And God stood above it, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your grandfather, and the God of Isaac. The land on which you are lying I will give to you and to your descendants.
14 Tu descendencia será como el polvo de la tierra, y te extenderás hacia el mar, al oriente, al norte y hacia Neguev. En ti y en tu descendencia serán bendecidas todas las familias de la tierra.
Your descendants will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. And through you and through your descendants will all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 Mira, Yo estoy contigo, te guardaré dondequiera que vayas y volveré a traerte a esta tierra, pues no te dejaré hasta que [Yo] haga lo que te prometí.
And look, I am with you, and will watch over you wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you."
16 Jacob despertó de su sueño y dijo: ¡Ciertamente Yavé está en este lugar y yo no lo sabía!
Then Jacob woke up from his sleep, and said, "Surely God is in this place, and I did not know it."
17 Tuvo miedo, y dijo: ¡Cuán asombroso es este lugar! ¡Esto no es sino Casa de ʼElohim y puerta del cielo!
He was afraid, and said, "How awesome is this place. This is none other than God's house, and this is the gate of heaven."
18 Jacob madrugó por la mañana y al tomar la piedra que puso como su cabecera, la erigió como una estela y derramó aceite sobre su cúspide.
And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up as a standing-stone, and poured oil on top of it.
19 Llamó aquel lugar Bet-ʼEl. Sin embargo, al principio, el nombre de la ciudad era Luz.
He called the name of that place Bethel, though previously the city was named Luz.
20 Jacob hizo un voto solemne: Si ʼElohim está conmigo, me protege en este camino en el cual ando, me da pan para comer y ropa para vestir
Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and will watch over me on this journey I am taking, and will give me food to eat, and clothing to put on,
21 y yo vuelvo en paz a casa de mi padre, Yavé será mi ʼElohim.
so that I return to my father's house safely, then he will be my God,
22 Entonces esta piedra que erigí como estela será Casa de ʼElohim, y de todo lo que me des, ciertamente te daré el diezmo.
and this stone, which I have set up as a standing-stone, will be God's house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give the tenth to you."
