Génesis 11
1 Entonces toda la tierra tenía una sola lengua y las mismas palabras.
At first, all the people in [MTY] the world spoke the same language [DOU].
2 Aconteció que al salir hacia el oriente, encontraron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar y se establecieron allí.
As people moved further east, they arrived at a plain in Babylonia region and began to live there.
3 Entonces se dijeron unos a otros: Vengan, fabriquemos adobes y quemémoslos con fuego. El ladrillo les sirvió en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto en lugar de argamasa.
Then they said to each other, “(Hey/Come on), let’s form bricks and bake them to make them hard, for building!” So they used bricks instead of stones, and used tar instead of (mortar/a mixture of cement, sand and lime) to hold them together.
4 Y dijeron: Vengan, construyámonos una ciudad y una torre cuya cúspide llegue al cielo. Hagámonos un nombre, en caso de que seamos esparcidos por la superficie de toda la tierra.
They said, “Hey, let’s build a city for ourselves! We also ought to build a very high tower that reaches up to the sky! In that way we will become famous! If we do not do this, we will be scattered all over the earth!”
5 Pero Yavé descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.
So they began to build the city and the tower. Then Yahweh looked down and saw the city and the tower that those [puny] men were building.
6 Y Yavé dijo: Ciertamente son un pueblo y todos ellos tienen la misma lengua. Éste es solo el principio de su obra y nada les hará desistir de lo que planean hacer.
Yahweh said, “These people are one group that all speak the same language. If they have begun to do this now, then (there is nothing that they will decide to do that will be impossible for them/they will be able to do whatever they decide to do) [LIT]!
7 Vamos, descendamos ya y confundamos allí su lengua para que nadie entienda el lenguaje del otro.
So, okay/now, we will go down there and cause there to be many different languages, so that they will not be able to understand each other.”
8 Yavé los dispersó de allí por toda la superficie de la tierra, y desistieron de construir la ciudad.
So Yahweh did that. As a result, the people stopped building the city, and Yahweh caused them to disperse all over the earth.
9 Por eso lo llamó Babel, porque allí Yavé confundió la lengua de toda la tierra. Desde allí Yavé los esparció por la superficie de toda la tierra.
The city was called Babel which means ‘confusion’, because there Yahweh caused the people to become confused because the people [MTY] spoke [different languages that the others could not understand], not just one language. From there Yahweh caused them to disperse all over the earth.
10 Estos son los descendientes de Sem: Cuando Sem tenía 100 años engendró a Arfaxad, dos años después del diluvio.
(This is a bigger list/I will now tell you more) of the descendants of Shem: Two years after the flood, when Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arpachshad.
11 Sem vivió después de engendrar a Arfaxad 500 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Arpachshad was born, Shem lived 500 more years and had more sons and daughters.
12 Arfaxad vivió 35 años y engendró a Sala.
When Arphachshad was 35 years old, he became the father of Shelah.
13 Arfaxad vivió 403 años después que engendró a Sala, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Shelah was born, Arpachshad lived 403 more years and became the father of more sons and daughters.
14 Sala vivió 30 años y engendró a Heber.
When Shelah was 30 years old, he became the father of Eber.
15 Sala vivió después de engendrar a Heber 403 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Eber was born, Shelah lived 403 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
16 Heber vivió 34 años y engendró a Peleg.
When Eber was 34 years old, he became the father of Peleg.
17 Heber vivió después de engendrar a Peleg 430 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Peleg was born, Eber lived 430 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
18 Peleg vivió 30 años y engendró a Reú.
When Peleg was 30 years old, he became the father of Reu.
19 Peleg vivió 209 años después de engendrar a Reú, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Reu was born, Peleg lived 209 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
20 Reú vivió 32 años y engendró a Serug.
When Reu was 32 years old, he became the father of Serug.
21 Reú vivió después de engendrar a Serug 207 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Serug was born, Reu lived 207 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
22 Serug vivió 30 años y engendró a Nacor.
When Serug was 30 years old, he became the father of Nahor.
23 Después de engendrar a Nacor, Serug vivió 200 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Nahor was born, Serug lived 200 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
24 Nacor vivió 29 años y engendró a Taré.
When Nahor was 29 years old, he became the father of Terah.
25 Nacor vivió después de engendrar a Taré 119 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
After Terah was born, Nahor lived 119 more years and became the father of other sons and daughters.
26 Y Taré vivió 70 años y engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán.
When Terah was 70 years old, his son Abram was born. Later, two other sons, Nahor and Haran were born.
27 Estos son los descendientes de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán. Harán engendró a Lot.
(This is/I will now give) a list of the descendants of Terah: Terah’s sons were Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran’s son was named Lot.
28 Pero Harán murió antes que su padre Taré en la tierra de su nacimiento, Ur de los caldeos.
Haran died before his father died. He died in Ur [city] in Chaldea land, where he was born.
29 Abram y Nacor tomaron para ellos esposas. El nombre de la esposa de Abram era Saray y el de la esposa de Nacor era Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.
Abram and Nahor both married. Abram’s wife was named Sarai, and Nahor’s wife was named Milcah. Milcah and her younger sister Iscah were the daughters of Haran.
30 Saray era estéril. No tenía hijos.
Sarai was unable to bear any children.
31 Taré tomó a Abram, su hijo, a Lot, su nieto, hijo de Harán, y a Saray, su nuera, esposa de su hijo Abram, y salieron de Ur de los caldeos para ir a la tierra de Canaán. Pero llegaron hasta Harán y se establecieron allí.
Terah decided to leave Ur and go to live in Canaan land. So he took his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran, and Abram’s wife Sarai with him. But instead of going to Canaan, they stopped at Haran [town] and lived there.
32 Los días de Taré fueron 205 años, y murió en Harán.
When Terah was 205 years old, he died there in Haran.
