Gálatas 4
1 Pero digo: mientras el heredero es niño, aunque es señor de todas las cosas, en nada difiere de un esclavo,
But I say, that the heir, as long as he is a minor, differs in no respect from a servant, though he is owner of all;
2 sino está bajo tutores y administradores hasta el tiempo fijado por el padre.
but is under guardians and managers till the time appointed by the father.
3 Así también nosotros, cuando éramos niños, nos esclavizábamos bajo los rudimentos del mundo.
So, also, we, when we were minors, were in bondage under the rudiments of the world.
4 Pero cuando vino el cumplimiento del tiempo, Dios envió a su Hijo, nacido de mujer, nacido bajo [la] Ley,
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
5 para que redimiera a los que estaban bajo [la ]Ley, a fin de que recibiéramos la adopción.
that he might buy off those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption.
6 Por cuanto [ustedes] son hijos, Dios envió al Espíritu de su Hijo a nuestros corazones, Quien clama: ¡Abba! (Padre).
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Por tanto, ya no eres esclavo sino hijo, y si hijo, también heredero por medio de Dios.
So, then, you are no longer a servant, but a son; and if a son, an heir also of God, through Christ.
8 Pero entonces, ciertamente, por no conocer a Dios, ustedes servían como esclavos a los que por naturaleza no son dioses.
But, then, because you knew not God, you were enslaved to those who, by nature, are not gods:
9 Pero ahora, por cuanto conocen a Dios, y más bien, por cuanto fueron conocidos por Él, ¿cómo vuelven otra vez a los débiles y pobres rudimentos, a los cuales quieren otra vez servir como esclavos?
now, however, after having known God, rather indeed having been known by God, how is it that you are turning back to the weak and beggarly rudiments, to which you desire again to be in bondage, as at first?
10 Se someten escrupulosamente a guardar días, meses, tiempos y años.
You observe days and months and times and years.
11 Temo por ustedes, no sea que, de algún modo, un trabajo duro entre ustedes fue en vano.
fear for you, lest I have bestowed labor upon you in vain.
12 Les ruego, hermanos, que sean como yo, porque yo también soy como ustedes. No me hicieron agravio.
Brethren, I beseech you, be as I am; because I was as you are. You have injured me in nothing.
13 Saben que la primera vez me presenté a predicarles las Buenas Noticias por [causa de ]una enfermedad física.
You know that through weakness of the flesh I preached the gospel to you at the first:
14 Ustedes no me despreciaron ni me rechazaron por la prueba que había en mi cuerpo. Más bien me recibieron como a un ángel de Dios, como a Cristo Jesús.
and my trial, which was in my flesh, you did not despise or loathe; but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus.
15 ¿Dónde está su bendición? Porque les doy testimonio de que si hubiera sido posible, se habrían sacado los ojos y me los habrían dado.
How great, then, was your blessedness! For I testify for you, that, if possible, you would have torn out your eyes, and have given them to me.
16 ¿Me convertí en su enemigo al decirles la verdad?
Have I then become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
17 Ellos están profundamente inquietos por ustedes, no para bien, sino quieren separarlos para que ustedes mismos estén profundamente preocupados [por ellos].
They are ardently attached to you, but not honorably; indeed, they desire to exclude us, that you may be ardently attached to them.
18 Bueno es estar siempre profundamente preocupado por lo bueno, y no solo al estar presente yo con ustedes.
It is honorable to be ardently attached always, in what is honorable, and not only when I am present with you.
19 Hijos míos, por quienes otra vez sufro dolores de parto hasta que Cristo sea formado en ustedes,
My little children, for whom I again suffer the pains of gestation, till Christ be formed in you,
20 deseaba más bien estar presente con ustedes y mudar mi tono, porque me asombro de ustedes.
I desire to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am in doubt concerning you.
21 Díganme, los que desean estar bajo [la ]Ley: ¿No ponen atención a la Ley?
Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, do you not understand the law?
22 Porque fue escrito que Abraham tuvo dos hijos: uno de la esclava y uno de la libre.
For it is written, that Abraham had two sons; one by a bondmaid, and one by a free woman.
23 El de la esclava ciertamente fue engendrado en conformidad con la naturaleza humana, pero el de la libre, por medio de la promesa.
But the one by the bondmaid was born according to the flesh; the other, by the free woman, was by promise.
24 Esto es dicho simbólicamente, porque éstas [mujeres] simbolizan dos pactos: una ciertamente de la Montaña Sinaí, la cual concibe para esclavitud.
These things are allegorized: for these women are the two covenants; the one from the Mount Sinai that brings forth for bondage, which is Hagar.
25 Agar es [la] Montaña Sinaí en Arabia, que corresponde a la Jerusalén de ahora, porque sirve como esclava con sus hijos.
For Hagar represents Mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in bondage with her children.
26 Pero la Jerusalén de arriba, la cual es nuestra madre, es libre.
But Jerusalem which is above is free; and she is the mother of us all.
27 Porque está escrito: Regocíjate oh estéril, la que no da a luz. Prorrumpe y clama, la que no sufre dolores de parto. Porque muchos son los hijos de la desamparada, más que los de la que tiene el esposo.
For it is written: Rejoice you barren, that do not bear: break forth and cry aloud, you that travail not: for many more are the children of the deserted, than of her that had the husband of the deserted.
28 Así que ustedes, hermanos, como Isaac, son hijos de [la] promesa.
We, indeed, brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise.
29 Tal como entonces el que fue engendrado según la naturaleza humana perseguía al que fue engendrado según el Espíritu, así también ahora.
But as then, he that was born according to the flesh persecuted him that was born according to the Spirit, so even now.
30 Pero ¿qué dice la Escritura? Echa fuera a la esclava y a su hijo, porque de ningún modo heredará el hijo de la esclava con el hijo de la libre.
But what says the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son; for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the free-woman.
31 Por tanto, hermanos, no somos hijos de [la] esclava, sino de la libre.
Therefore, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free-woman.
