Éxodo 1
1 Estos son los nombres de los hijos de Israel que entraron con Jacob en Egipto, cada uno con su familia:
Now these [are] the names of the children of Israel, who came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.
2 Rubén, Simeón, Leví, Judá,
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3 Isacar, Zabulón, Benjamín,
Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4 Dan, Neftalí, Gad y Aser.
Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
5 Todas las personas descendientes directos de Jacob fueron 70, pero José [ya] estaba en Egipto.
And all the souls that descended from Jacob, were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt [already].
6 José murió, y todos sus hermanos, y toda aquella generación.
And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7 Pero los hijos de Israel fueron fecundos y aumentaron grandemente. Se multiplicaron, y fueron aumentados y muy fortalecidos de tal manera que la tierra se llenó de ellos.
And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and became exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8 Entonces se levantó en Egipto un nuevo rey que no conoció a José.
Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph.
9 Él dijo a su pueblo: Ciertamente el pueblo de los hijos de Israel es más numeroso y fuerte que nosotros.
And he said to his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel [are] more and mightier than we.
10 Vamos, procedamos con astucia contra ellos, no sea que se multipliquen, y en el caso de una guerra, se unan también con los que nos aborrecen, luchen contra nosotros y se vayan de esta tierra.
Come, let us deal wisely with them: lest they multiply, and it shall come to pass, that when there falleth out any war, they will join with our enemies, and fight against us, and depart from the land.
11 Entonces les impusieron capataces de trabajos forzados para que los oprimieran con sus cargas. Así se edificaron las ciudades de almacenaje Pitón y Ramsés para Faraón.
Therefore they set over them task-masters, to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure-cities, Pithom, and Raamses.
12 Pero cuanto más los oprimían, más se multiplicaban y esparcían, hasta que [los egipcios] sintieron aversión hacia los hijos de Israel.
But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.
13 Los egipcios obligaron con dureza a trabajar a los hijos de Israel.
And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigor.
14 Amargaron su vida con el duro trabajo de preparar arcilla y hacer ladrillos, con toda [clase] de labores del campo y trabajos que les imponían con rigor.
And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service in which they made them serve, [was] with rigor.
15 Entonces el rey de Egipto habló a las parteras de las hebreas, una de las cuales se llamaba Sifra, y la otra Fúa,
And the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives (of which the name of one [was] Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: )
16 y dijo: Cuando asistan a las mujeres hebreas en sus partos, al observar en la silla de parto que es un hijo, mátenlo, y si es una hija, que viva.
And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see [them] upon the stools; if it [shall be] a son, then ye shall kill him; but if it [shall be] a daughter, then she shall live.
17 Pero las parteras temieron a ʼElohim, y no hicieron según lo que el rey de Egipto les ordenó, sino dejaron vivir a los niños.
But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male-children alive.
18 El rey egipcio llamó a las parteras y les dijo: ¿Por qué hacen esto de dejar vivir a los niños?
And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the male-children alive?
19 Las parteras respondieron a Faraón: Porque las mujeres hebreas no son como las egipcias, pues son vigorosas y dan a luz antes que la partera llegue a ellas.
And the midwives said to Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women [are] not as the Egyptian women: for they [are] lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in to them.
20 El pueblo se multiplicó y se fortaleció muchísimo. ʼElohim favoreció a las parteras.
Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and became very mighty.
21 Por haber temido las parteras a ʼElohim, Él les concedió familias a ellas.
And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
22 Entonces Faraón ordenó a todo su pueblo: Echen al Nilo a todo hijo que nazca, pero a toda hija sálvenle la vida.
And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.
