Éxodo 33

1 Yavé habló a Moisés: Sal. Sube de aquí, tú y el pueblo que sacaste de la tierra de Egipto para llevarlo a la tierra de la cual juré a Abraham, Isaac y Jacob: La daré a tus descendientes.

And the LORD said to Moses, Depart [and] go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast conducted from the land of Egypt, to the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, to thy seed will I give it:

2 Enviaré delante de ti a mi Ángel, y expulsaré al cananeo, al amorreo, al heteo, al ferezeo, al heveo y al jebuseo,

And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

3 a una tierra que fluye leche y miel. Porque no subiré en medio de ti, no sea que te consuma en el camino, pues eres un pueblo indómito.

To a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou [art] a stiff-necked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

4 Al escuchar el pueblo esta mala noticia, hicieron duelo y ninguno se vistió sus atavíos.

And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man put on him his ornaments.

5 Porque Yavé le dijo a Moisés: Dí a los hijos de Israel: Ustedes son un pueblo indómito. Si por un momento subiera en medio de ti, te consumiría. Ahora, pues, quita tus adornos de ti para que Yo sepa qué hacer contigo.

For the LORD had said to Moses, Say to the children of Israel, Ye [are] a stiff-necked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do to thee.

6 Por lo cual los hijos de Israel se despojaron de sus atavíos desde la Montaña Horeb en adelante.

And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments, by the mount Horeb.

7 Moisés tomaba el Tabernáculo y lo levantaba lejos, fuera del campamento. Lo llamó Tabernáculo de Reunión. Todo el que buscaba a Yavé salía al Tabernáculo de Reunión que estaba fuera del campamento.

And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp far from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, [that] every one who sought the LORD, went out to the tabernacle of the congregation, which [was] without the camp.

8 Sucedía que, cuando Moisés salía al Tabernáculo, todo el pueblo se levantaba. Cada cual estaba en pie en la entrada de su propia tienda y observaban a Moisés hasta cuando él entraba en el Tabernáculo.

And it came to pass when Moses went out to the tabernacle, [that] all the people rose, and stood every man at his tent-door, and looked after Moses, until he had gone into the tabernacle.

9 Ocurría que cuando Moisés entraba en el Tabernáculo, la columna de nube descendía y permanecía en la entrada del Tabernáculo mientras [Yavé] hablaba con Moisés.

And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood [at] the door of the tabernacle, and [the LORD] talked with Moses.

10 Todo el pueblo veía la columna de nube detenida en la entrada del Tabernáculo. Todo el pueblo se levantaba y se postraba, cada uno en la entrada de su propia tienda.

And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand [at] the tabernacle door: and all the people rose and worshiped, every man [in] his tent-door.

11 Yavé hablaba con Moisés cara a cara, como un hombre suele hablar con su amigo. Luego volvía al campamento, pero el joven Josué, hijo de Nun, nunca se apartaba de en medio del Tabernáculo.

And the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaketh to his friend. And he turned again into the camp; but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.

12 Entonces Moisés dijo a Yavé: Considera que Tú me dices: Lleva a este pueblo. Pero no me das a conocer a quién enviarás conmigo, aunque dijiste: Te conozco por nombre. Y también: Hallaste gracia delante de Mí.

And Moses said to the LORD, See, thou sayest to me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.

13 Ahora, si hallé gracia delante de Ti, te ruego que me muestres tu camino para que te conozca y halle gracia ante Ti. Considera que esta nación es tu pueblo.

Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, show me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation [is] thy people.

14 Él dijo: Mi Presencia irá contigo y te daré descanso.

And he said, My presence shall attend [thee], and I will give thee rest.

15 Y le respondió: Si tu Presencia no va, no nos saques de aquí.

And he said to him, If thy presence shall not attend me, conduct us not hence.

16 Porque, ¿cómo se puede saber que yo y tu pueblo hallamos gracia delante de Ti? ¿No es al saber que Tú vas con nosotros para que yo y tu pueblo seamos distinguidos de todos los pueblos que hay sobre la tierra?

For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? [Is it] not in that thou goest with us? So shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that [are] upon the face of the earth.

17 Yavé dijo a Moisés: También haré esto que dijiste por cuanto hallaste gracia delante de Mí, y te conocí por nombre.

And the LORD said to Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

18 Entonces Moisés dijo: ¡Te ruego, muéstrame tu gloria!

And he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory.

19 Y le respondió: Yo mismo haré pasar toda mi bondad delante de ti, y proclamaré el Nombre de Yavé delante de ti. Tendré compasión del que tendré compasión y me compadeceré del que me compadeceré.

And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

20 Dijo además: No podrás ver mi rostro, pues no me verá hombre y vivirá.

And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

21 Y Yavé añadió: Aquí hay un lugar junto a Mí, y tú estarás en pie sobre la peña.

And the LORD said, Behold, [there is] a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

22 Sucederá que cuando pase mi gloria, te pondré en la hendidura de la peña y te cubriré con mi mano hasta que pase.

And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock: and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

23 Después apartaré mi mano y verás mi espalda, pero mi rostro no será visto.

And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
