Ester 1
1 Aconteció en los días de Asuero, el que reinó desde India hasta Etiopía sobre 127 provincias,
And it comes to pass, in the days of Ahasuerus—he [is] Ahasuerus who is reigning from Hodu even to Cush, one hundred twenty-seven provinces—
2 cuando el rey se sentó en el trono real en la capital que estaba en Susa,
in those days, at the sitting of King Ahasuerus on the throne of his kingdom, that [is] in Shushan the palace,
3 en el tercer año de su reinado, hizo un banquete a todos sus magistrados y servidores. Tenía ante él al ejército de Persia y Media, los nobles, y las autoridades de las provincias.
in the third year of his reign, he has made a banquet to all his heads and his servants; of the force of Persia and Media, the chiefs and heads of the provinces [are] before him,
4 Exhibió la gloria de las riquezas de su reino y la magnificencia de su poderío durante 180 días.
in his showing the wealth of the glory of his kingdom, and the glory of the beauty of his greatness, many days—one hundred eighty days.
5 Cuando se cumplieron esos días el rey brindó un banquete a todo el pueblo que estaba en la capital Susa, tanto a los encumbrados como a los humildes, durante siete días en el patio del jardín del palacio real.
And at the fullness of these days the king has made a banquet to all the people who are found in Shushan the palace, from great even to small, [for] seven days, in the court of the garden of the house of the king—
6 Había allí lienzos de lino blanco y azul, colgados con cordones púrpura a anillos de plata entre columnas de mármol. Los reclinatorios eran de oro y plata, y estaban sobre un enlosado de mosaicos verdes y blancos con incrustaciones de nácar y de ónice.
white linen, white cotton, and blue, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple on rings of silver, and pillars of marble, couches of gold, and of silver, on a pavement of smaragdus, and white marble, and mother-of-pearl, and black marble—
7 Conforme a la generosidad del rey, daban a beber vino real en abundancia, en copas de oro de distintas clases.
and the giving of drink in vessels of gold, and the vessels [are] various vessels, and the royal wine [is] abundant, as a memorial of the king.
8 La bebida era brindada según lo establecido, sin obligación, porque el rey dispuso que los funcionarios de su palacio vieran que cada cual hiciera según su propio gusto.
And the drinking [is] according to law, none is pressing, for so the king has appointed for every chief one of his house, to do according to the pleasure of man and man.
9 También la reina Vasti ofreció un banquete para las mujeres del palacio real del rey Asuero.
Also Vashti the queen has made a banquet for women, in the royal house that King Ahasuerus has.
10 Al séptimo día, cuando el rey estaba alegre a causa del vino, ordenó a Mehumán, Bizta, Harbona, Bigta, Abagta, Zetar y Carcas, los siete servidores del palacio que servían al rey Asuero,
On the seventh day, as the heart of the king is glad with wine, he has commanded to Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven eunuchs who are ministering in the presence of King Ahasuerus,
11 que condujeran a la reina Vasti ante el rey, adornada con la corona real, para mostrar su belleza a la gente y los gobernantes, porque ella tenía hermosa apariencia.
to bring in Vashti the queen before the king, with a royal crown, to show the peoples and the heads her beauty, for she [is] of good appearance,
12 Pero la reina Vasti se negó a cumplir la orden que el rey envió por medio de los servidores del palacio. El rey se indignó muchísimo por esto y airó.
and the queen Vashti refuses to come in at the word of the king that [is] by the hand of the eunuchs, and the king is very angry, and his fury has burned in him.
13 Entonces el rey consultó a los sabios que conocían los tiempos, como era su costumbre con los que conocían la ley y el derecho.
And the king says to wise men, knowing the times—for so [is] the word of the king before all knowing law and judgment,
14 Los más cercanos eran Carsena, Setar, Admata, Tarsis, Meres, Marsena y Memucán, los siete magistrados de Persia y Media, quienes veían el rostro del rey y se sentaban como primeros en el reino.
and he who is near to him [is] Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, Memucan, seven heads of Persia and Media seeing the face of the king, who are sitting first in the kingdom—
15 Según la ley, ¿qué debe hacerse con la reina Vasti porque no cumplió la orden del rey Asuero enviada por medio de los servidores del palacio?
“According to law, what should [I] do with Queen Vashti, because that she has not done the saying of King Ahasuerus by the hand of the eunuchs?”
16 Entonces Memucán respondió ante el rey y los príncipes: La reina Vasti no faltó el respeto solamente al rey, sino también a todos los gobernantes y todos los pueblos que están en todas las provincias del rey Asuero.
And Memucan says before the king and the heads, “Queen Vashti has not done perversely against the king by himself, but against all the heads, and against all the peoples that [are] in all provinces of King Ahasuerus;
17 Porque la conducta de la reina llegará a los oídos de todas las mujeres, quienes podrían menospreciar a sus esposos cuando se diga que el rey Asuero ordenó a la reina Vasti que se presentara ante él, y ella no quiso.
for the word of the queen goes forth to all the women, to render their husbands contemptible in their eyes, in their saying, King Ahasuerus commanded to bring in Vashti the queen before him, and she did not come;
18 En este mismo día las princesas de Persia y de Media, enteradas del proceder de la reina, podrán decir lo mismo a todos los príncipes del rey, de modo que se levantará una gran ira y desprecio.
indeed, this day princesses of Persia and Media, who have heard the word of the queen, say [so] to all heads of the king, even according to the sufficiency of contempt and wrath.
19 Si parece bien al rey, proclame un edicto real que sea escrito entre las leyes de Persia y Media con carácter irrevocable, que Vasti no comparezca más ante el rey Asuero, y que el rey otorgue su título de reina a otra más digna que ella.
If to the king [it be] good, there goes forth a royal word from before him, and it is written with the laws of Persia and Media, and does not pass away, that Vashti does not come in before King Ahasuerus, and the king gives her royalty to her companion who [is] better than she;
20 Cuando el edicto del rey sea oído en todo su reino, ¡que siempre sea grande! todas las mujeres darán honra a sus esposos, tanto al más importante como al más humilde.
and the sentence of the king that he makes has been heard in all his kingdom—for it [is] great—and all the wives give honor to their husbands, from great even to small.”
21 El consejo agradó al rey y a los magistrados, y el rey hizo conforme a la palabra de Memucán.
And the thing is good in the eyes of the king, and of the princes, and the king does according to the word of Memucan,
22 Envió cartas a todas las provincias del rey, a cada provincia según su escritura y a cada pueblo según su lengua, para que cada varón fuera jefe en su casa y lo difundiera según la lengua de su pueblo.
and sends letters to all provinces of the king, to province and province according to its writing, and to people and people according to its tongue, for every man being head in his own house—and speaking according to the language of his people.
