Eclesiastés 12
1 Acuérdate de tu Creador en los días de tu juventud, Antes que lleguen los malos días, Y se acerquen los años cuando digas: No tengo en ellos contentamiento.
Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2 Antes que se oscurezcan el sol y la luz, Y la luna y las estrellas, Y las nubes vuelvan tras la lluvia.
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:
3 El día cuando tiemblen los guardianes de la casa, Se encorven los hombres fuertes, Cesen las que muelen porque disminuyeron, Y se enturbien los que miran por las celosías.
In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4 Cuando se cierren las puertas de afuera Por ser débil el sonido del molino, Uno se levante con la voz del ave, Y todas las hijas del canto sean abatidas,
And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;
5 Cuando se tema también a lo que es alto Y a los terrores del camino, Florezca el almendro, Se arrastre la langosta, Y se pierda el apetito. Porque el hombre va hacia su morada eterna, Y los que endechan rondan por las calles.
Also [when] they shall be afraid of [that which is] high, and fears [shall be] in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6 Antes que se rompa el cordón de plata Se destroce el tazón de oro, Se quiebre el cántaro junto a la fuente, La rueda se rompa sobre el pozo,
Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
7 El polvo vuelva a la tierra de donde procede, Y el espíritu regrese a ʼElohim, Quien lo dio.
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
8 Vanidad de vanidades, Dice el Predicador. ¡Todo es vanidad!
Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all [is] vanity.
9 Cuanto más sabio fue el Predicador, tanto más impartió su conocimiento al pueblo. Reflexionó y escudriñó. Compuso muchos proverbios.
And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, [and] set in order many proverbs.
10 Procuró el Predicador hallar palabras agradables, palabras de verdad escritas correctamente.
The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and [that which was] written [was] upright, [even] words of truth.
11 Las palabras de los sabios son como aguijones, como estacas firmemente clavadas por un pastor para guiar rebaños.
The words of the wise [are] as goads, and as nails fastened [by] the masters of assemblies, [which] are given from one shepherd.
12 Además de esto, hijo mío, sé advertido: El escribir muchos rollos no tiene fin, y la devoción excesiva a los rollos es fatiga para el cuerpo.
And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books [there is] no end; and much study [is] a weariness of the flesh.
13 La conclusión de todo el discurso oído es: Teme a ʼElohim y guarda sus Mandamientos, Porque esto es el todo del hombre.
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man.
14 Porque ʼElohim llevará toda obra a juicio, Junto con toda cosa oculta, Sea buena o sea mala.
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.
